  • Do's and don't of fabrication
Because of the way the parts are welded some of the holes didn't align properly and the pins wouldn't fit through both holes. I was forced to use a 1/4 inch drill and drill through both holes to correct the misalignment. Again because of the distortion caused by the welding it was impossible to get the wheels to fit between the two tabs and into the slots provided for the wheels. I had to correct this by bending the tabs to create enough space to accommodate the wheels. The last thing I really don't like is this. The tires don't lock into the rims properly. 35 psi. is the recommended pressure to use and yet the tires still pull off the rim in one place on both tires. I've been a machinist for 47 years and you guys really need to refine your machining process. I'm going to keep the trailer as it's basic design is good. I will correct the problems myself though I'm not very happy about it. You shouldn't machine holes and slots prior to welding the tabs on the frame. The heat of welding distorts the alignment of the tabs, particularly the slots and location of the parts that hold the axles in place. You guys might be bike enthusiasts but you're certainly not machinists. Perhaps doing a little inspection prior to shipping would help alleviate your problems. ... show more

  • It works!
I put it together last night, and it works. I didn't think it was quite so easy to put together as the other reviewers, but I managed. I have to admit, the whole thing took me an hour. The printed instructions for putting the wheels on are a little confusing, and the diagram was printed in German instead of English, but the wheels are exactly the same as the quick-release wheels on any other bike you might have owned. The cart looks great. The nice black finish is not going to stand up to repeated applications of standard-issue bungee cords, with the sharp hooks on the end. If you're a neat freak, you'll have to buy special straps or something. The standard bungee cord hooks just barely fit over the narrower metal tubes on the sides of the cart, but they do scrape the finish. I used the cart this morning and hauled a live trap to the park, with a raccoon in it, and I had no problems. I did manage to knock my bicycle over, while it was still attached to the trailer hitch. This happened while I was loading. The hitch is fine, but I knocked my rear wheel out of alignment and it squeaked all the way to the park. I think I've got it fixed now, but time will tell. Knocking over the bicycle is clearly operator error and not the fault of the cart. If you are new to using a trailer like I am, I would just say to be extra careful. As far as the cart itself, it looks sturdy. Everything fit together nicely except the holes on the rear loading gate, which are not quite lined up to take the pin. This is not a problem, as I have bungees. If I get some time, I'll try finding an Allen key to unscrew the hinge side of the gate and see if I can jostle it into alignment. I'm happy so far with the purchase. Time will tell if this is really worth the full $200. The illustration of this cart looks just like a cheaper one you can also buy on Amazon, but the reviews for the "M-Wave" were better in terms of sturdy construction. I ordered extra inner tubes for the wheels on the trailer, and I think I'll also look for Mr. Tuffy tire liners that fit these wheels, because the streets here are full of broken glass. The tires that come with it are not puncture resistant tires, just normal ones. I noticed on the box that this cart ships from Cycle Force Group, which is a good sign, because I've had excellent results in the past with ordering replacement parts from Cycle Force Group. Their contact information is not printed on the written instructions, but I believe you can search for "Cycle Force Group" online to find their email and phone number. ********************** This is an addendum to my original review. I have used this trailer multiple times now. Once I took it off the trail and fell down a bank almost into the river. The bicycle was on its side, and the trailer hitch was twisted to the point where I thought it would break, but it's all good. The long cylinder of metal that connects the trailer to the bike hitch turns out to be made of some silvery accordion-link metal that is enclosed in some kind of sleeve. The accordion-shaped metal popped an inch or so out of the sleeve when I fell, but it stood up to the torque and did not snap. Nothing was broken. I am quite impressed with an inexpensive product that can stand up to my abuse. ... show more

  • tires and rims are the only limiting factor - this is a great cart.
UPDATE: Still going strong everyone! We did get the "tuff" wheels I mentioned. We bought them here on amazon. They were reasonable. I got rid of the rim-quick releases in favor of nuts. I have no idea how it compares to the <$100 versions; I would like taller sides on this to carry more weight and our dog - but - as it is we still love it. When loaded this thing can drag a bit because of the very necessary spring-hitch. But the "tuff" wheels have great bearings and roll well even through mud, and water, and grunge, and -now- thousands of miles. Way to go M-Wave. We load it up and then load it up again. We overload it every weekend. We ride miles every week. The only weak point to this cart consists of the rim strength and the inner tubes used. I have ordered 16" five spoke tough wheels to use as replacements and puncture resistant inner tubes. We (I) bent both rims while madly plunging into a curb with a full load including, but in no way limited to, a full 5 gallon water bottle. Because of rough roads and sudden emergency turns we have launched this thing - unwittingly, into several flight patterns around Phoenix. No matter the trial - or crash landing, this thing takes it and laughs off the scrapes and bruises. If you need durable this is THE trailer. The base is thick riveted hard plastic over welded tube steel braces, awesome. The welds on the entire cart are quality like a millwright would make. I can't make those welds but I have worked with several who could. It shows all the signs of quality workmanship that I thought had been lost by the US. No it does not come with a pooch tent or kid straps or an airbag but damn it all - if it isn't made like an A1-tank in black paint. Happiness is. FYI- buy web bungees and straps with this cart. If a load can be stacked and secured this cart will hold it. It comes with a universal hitch and mount. ... show more
