Not every one of these programmable thermostats works for every type of heating system. I actually wrote to the manufacturer and asked them what to replace the defective one I had with. Mine was discontinued. They recommended this model. I had it installed in minutes. It works like a charm.

Amazon Warehouse item review. The box was roughed up, but the thermostat inside looked brand new. No fingerprints. No dust. All manuals and papers were included and unopened. Screws still sealed in baggies. The LuxPro thermostat has quite a few steps to fully set up. But that's because it is so customizable. Time/temp when you wake up. Time/temp during the day when you are at work/school. (When most homes are empty) Time/temp when you come home from work/school. Time/temp when you go to bed. Then you have to do all the steps over for your 2-day weekend schedule. It's all pretty logical and easy to set up by reading the digital readout and using the up/down/next buttons. No app to download. No account to register for. Nothing to synch up. Everything is programmed with hard buttons on the thermostat unit. What I love most about this thermostat is that the face plate/guts of the thermostat fit exactly over the old 11-year old baseplate of my previous LuxPro thermostat. In my case, there was no need to swap out the wires. Just snap the new faceplate/guts on the old baseplate. DONE. Name-brand Energizer batteries are included and already installed. Just remove the plastic tab from the AA battery compartment and you're good to go. I was tempted to switch over to a Nest smart thermostat, but in the end, I figured, why mess with something that has worked for over a decade for me. I bought this because it has a swingset and it also has a setting where you can have your air conditioner run longer so it doesn’t innocent short cycle when it gets hot and it has made a big difference in my electric bills. I looked at everything, from non-programmables to the high end wifi/internet enabled. In the end, I chose a simple week/weekend programmable for our family. Basically, I want the HVAC to setback at night and when away and to switch on in the morning and evenings when we're home. As long as I have that, 95% of the time it's perfect; keeping us at a good balance of comfort & efficiency. The other 5% is not worth worrying about as it's easily changed with a bump up or down with an override. That's a two button press on this unit; once to activate the backlight and once more to change the temp. It will reset on the next scheduled change. I just want to set it and forget it and that's just what this thermostat offers. For about $30, it's hard to find a better value. This is so simple to program as well. I've seen some similar units that are just too complex to figure out. This one, you likely can program w/o reading the instructions. If you need multi-stage control, you'll have to look elsewhere. I have three of these installed - two on gas furnaces with AC and one on a heat pump. This offers filter change alerts and temperature swing adjustment control. Separate programs are stored for heat and cool, activated by a manual change over. In another home I had LUX brand 7-day units, but in the end, I was programming one day and then copying it to the rest of the week. I think a custom day to day schedule is good for one, maybe two people. In the case of the average family, that's just too complex to attempt to manage; it's just easier to set an all-encompassing schedule once. ... show more

Had a Lux thermostat for over 20 years. When it failed I tried a Honeywell. Lasted 3 years. Went back to Lux. It's working perfectly. Hope it lasts 20 years.

Nice thermostat - easy to install - easy to program - works well - we have two heaters so I bought two of these and replaced two old thermostats at the same time. Both thermostats were installed new in October 2022 utilizing the batteries that came with them. In March 2023 one furnace quit working. I had a technician come out (for $180) to check the furnace. He found the furnace to be working properly but advised me the thermostat was bad. Looking at the screen of the thermostat it appeared to be functioning properly, but apparently was not turning on the furnace. These thermostats have a base they plug into. It was easy to swap thermostats and the nonworking furnace began to work (should have done that first). Using an inexpensive battery tester that rates batteries "good, questionable or dead" I tested the batteries in the nonworking thermostat and found the batteries rated as "good". In spite of that I went ahead and changed the batteries out for new ones and the nonworking thermostat again began functioning properly. A month later it is still working. Bottom line - I really like this thermostat - Except it is very disappointing that a battery could be the issue without an error code or some indication of a bad/low battery being reported on the thermostat screen. ... show more
