I've seen other reviews. Some are true but for the cost and utilization it's more than worth it. It was super easy to assemble. Just drop in a few stiff boards. Maybe a little trial and error but it's nothing like assembling Ikea furniture. I've seen some complaints about a smell so immediately after opening it, I unfolded it, and took a whiff. Yeah, there's a smell but not a deal breaker. It's not like my shoes smell any better. If I never read about the smell I probably wouldn't even notice it. It's also true that it's not super sturdy but for what I use it for and the price, it's perfect. I stuff it with a bunch of rarely used shoes, then set it and forget for several months. If you plan to lug it around and consistently open and close it then you may want to look for something else. Each square is good enough to fit most thin pairs of shoes like Van's or flip flops. My hiking shoes take a space each. The whole thing is not the smallest thing in the world but it's better than having a wall of shoes for the world to see or having a mountain of shoes. I should have taken a before picture of my closet but I'm sure you can imagine what it used to look like.

Overall, it is a good quality shoe organizer and was just what I needed. However, having size 12 men’s, it only holds 8 pairs of (or 16) shoes, not 16 pairs as described. The only way you could get 16 pairs of shoes into this would be if you were only storing sandals or some unstructured shoes like low top converse or vans. Even then, they would need to be a smaller size. I am only knocking off one star because I assumed this would be the case by looking at the pictures and it is doing exactly what I needed it to do. Overall, I would recommend.
