First the good: The shade is installed and looks and works wonderfully. When going back up, it retracts calmly and quietly. I am sure to love it over time, but it is presently installed with six plastic caps from milk cartons, and two screws; not ideal. The instructions leave a lot to be desired, like telling you how to tell the front from the back, and which side of the clever spring-loaded clip needs to face up. But the real problem is that somebody made a bad decision to save a cent by providing poorly made screws. All you need to do for installation, is to drill two holes then screw two clips into the window frame that will hold the housing for the shade. I screwed in one clip, no problem. Then, when I screwed in the second clip, the head broke off of the screw. So, I drilled a new hole, and decided to try screwing on the clip more gently this time. But again, the head broke off of the screw and this time, the clip went flying across the room. After an hour of moving furniture and scouring every corner looking for the wayward clip, I gave up. Instead, I was forced to jerry-rig a temporary solution until I could devise a more pleasant looking means of securing the shade housing. At first, I assumed that the offending screws must be made of aluminum, but a refrigerator magnet readily sticks to them, so they are simply very subpar steel screws. They were possibly intended to be used with the included plastic drywall anchors, but such anchors will not work in the wood I had to drill. And sure, they would have survived being drilled into plastic anchors, tho' apparently not wood. But I cannot blame the makers of the shade entirely for the faulty screws; it was simply a bad decision that could be easily fixed. ... show more

I got this size because I wanted to still have mini blinds as well as still have curtains. I mounted on top of the window trim and it works out great! Very much a blackout shade, but does let light leak through on the sides. Our TV catches a glare from this window and makes it difficult to watch in the day time. With this shade and the curtains drawn, no light gets through at all, thus elimianting the glare. Installation was simple - two screws is all it takes (I did not have to use the included wall anchors as the screws are in the window framing stud). I drilled a 1/8" hole to make screwing up the mounting brackets easier. Not much cheaper than local hardware stores, but easier to order from the comfort of home.     • Blocks all light, except around the edges

I have bought "100% blackout" curtains before only to find out that they are definitely not 100%. They always let in some light. I decided to try this style of curtain and it definitely is an improvement. It blocks all of the light from where it covers... but it doesn't cover everything. I bought the size that exactly fits my window. But that means that there are still some gaps, because there needs to be room for the mechanism. The frame of the window does stop direct light, but there is light bleed all around. And light bleed at the top, where it rolls up. The instructions have an option for mouting outside of the frame, and if I had to try again, I'd go with a larger size and try that mounting method to try to block even more light. Speaking of mounting, the mounting is fairly simple, but you wouldn't know that from the instructions! They have a very limited paper with pictures that don't show well at all what you are supposed to do. Once I figured it out, it wasn't hard. But it was tricky to understand it in the first place. Overall, I like this curtain and I would definitely say it beats regular "blackout" drapes. ... show more

    • Got the wrong size, but the shade seems good!

Welp, I 'think' this is a great shade. And I'll review it the best I can, but as I was unable to install it because it is the wrong size (that's on me) I can't necessarily review it as accurately as I'd like. I thought I'd ordered a different size and they had sent me the wrong one, but it turns out it was my fault, and I had selected the wrong size. So the screen I got is too small for the width of my window. That said. I was still able to take the shade out and look at it, test it, etc....and overall I'm pretty impressed. The material of the shade seems good quality and is a nice color. It for sure blocks light well, and the pull down and roll up features all works smoothly. The metal base that you'd screw into the window frame seems a bit flimsy, but I don't think it really needs to be super robust for what it does, so its probably not an issue. Overall, It seems like a good product and once I can get the right size and install it, I will update this review. ... show more

    • Hard to adjust spring

The window shade has excellent blackout. The blind was placed in an east facing window and no light gets through in the morning. The installation should be much easier than it was. Two clips are provided and have to be screwed into the window frame. Don't plan on using the provided screws. They will break off when being screwed. It was so frustrating. Once the clips were installed I worked for over an hour adjusting the spring that pulls the shade back up when pulled. This meant removing the blind several times. There is a flat screw head at each end of the blinds. They adjust the spring loaded shade. This was a real hassle and required taking the shade off several times. I'm glad I only needed one. ... show more

    • Work good, a valance would be nice

We got these to put in our sun room to both block the setting West sun and for some privacy from our neighbor that likes to sit on her patio and stare into the room. Installation was not hard and it only took a few minutes to mount and install; just mounted the brackets using their guide paper and snapped the shade into place. It rolls easily and really does block the sun and provide some privacy. I do wish these had come with a valance though, seeing the roller detracts from the visual appeal, and if behind curtains probably would not be that big an issue. ... show more
