We had been having issues with a new mattress not being exactly what we needed. We purchased this topper to supplement the softness we were missing in our too firm mattress. We have not been disappointed. We were at first skeptical. The topper is advertised as 3 inches and it only expanded to about 2 and a half inches after the suggested "breathe" time. Both my wife and I are side and back sleepers and suffer from hip pain (pressure) as well as pain in our lower backs (lack of support). This topper instantly forms to the curves of the body and the gel is firm enough that it supports you in whatever position you are lying in. Neither of us is experiencing the pressure we did before putting the topper in the bed. We find ourselves tossing and turning so much less and in fact, we both report that we did not move all through the night of sleeping. This may be partly because the gel cradles you nicely for sleep, adding comfort when sleeping, but makes it really difficult to move once you are positioned in the bed. We were skeptical that the memory foam topper would be hot. The gel and foam do hold the body heat. Even I, who am not usually hot when i sleep, can feel the temperature change. The difference we can feel in the support and comfort of the topper make up for the rise in temperature. I will choose to sleep in fewer blankets if it means that I can sleep through the night and get out of bed without the pain and discomfort. If there was a way to make this cooling, it would be perfect. If you want 3 inches, I would order 4 and it will raise the temperature in the bed, but all in all, this topper came through on its promise of comfort and a good night's sleep. ... show more

I purchased a new mattress on Amazon after reading about a zillion reviews. It was great, but a little bit TOO firm: You want it firm enough for support, but you still want a bit of forgiveness for some older bones. Enter this topper. Again, after reading a bunch of reviews, and not wanting to spend too much after laying out the cash for the mattress, I went for the 2 inch version, hoping it would allow a little more "give". And that's what it did. I don't sink in like I'm floating on a cloud, but it softened up the feel of the mattress just enough for this insomniac side sleeper. I didn't smell any lavender at all, which is fine by me; I have sachets made from real lavender if I want that scent. The topper is actually too pretty to hide with a mattress cover and sheets, but that's how it's got to be. So...not too cold, not too hot, Goldilocks just right. Recommended. ... show more

I bought this for my daughter to use it in her dorm. We took the package from home to the dorm without opening it and opened it in the dorm as we expected it to be big and not easy to carry.
