A few years ago, home IPL therapy devices were mostly available at spas, but they became smaller and more affordable, so they are now accessible for home use. As a result, there are now many different models available for purchase on Amazon. Most of these IPL devices have the basic function of hair removal, with some high-end models offering extra features such as "ICE" active cooling or various filters for different effects. If your main priority is hair removal at a low cost, then price will likely be the deciding factor in your choice of device. If you are looking for a lower-priced IPL device, then your choice will come down to the device's ergonomics and power. There are two main designs to choose from: oblong or gun-shaped. Personally, I prefer the gun shape because it is easier to hold and control, although the oblong design is also acceptable. The button design can also vary, and the power of the devices ranges from 18-60W, with higher power likely leading to more powerful flashing. Specifics of this IPL device: ** Has three modes: Hair removal (HR), skin rejuvenation (SC) and Acne (RA) ** 48W power supply (medium high) ** Provides ICE skin cooling functionality ** LCD screen shows focus area and power level (1-9) ** Gun shape, more convenient in the hand ** The power cord attaches to the end of the unit (see photos) ** No attachments to change the flash end shape ** Rated for 999,999 flashes, 9 power levels. The package includes a pair of cheap protective eyeglasses, two disposible razors, and a cleaning cloth. I was able to capture a 1/100th of a second snapshot of the light using slow-motion photography (see photos), but the light duration is very brief. To remove hair, move the tool over the area you want to treat and make sure all hair follicles in that region are exposed. There will be no immediate results. The light instructs the hair to stop growing, but you will need multiple treatments over several weeks before seeing results. Eventually, you should notice a substantial reduction in hair in the treated areas. In the box, you get the tool, a power cord, a pair of eye protection glasses, a couple of cheap disposable razors, plus instructions. This IPL includes "Ice." Ice functionality is another term for "Local epidermal cooling." This is local cooling of the epidermal region (surface skin) in the region where the IPL light pulse is being applied. The high-powered light can be irritating to some people, and cooling the skin in that region can reduce the immediate irritation. (It does not improve/decrease efficacy of the treatment). This IPL gun also offers three modes: Hair removal (HR), Skin rejuvenation (SC), and Acne mode (RA). Typically, if an IPL device has these alternative modes, it will come with extra filters that attach to the front of the gun to focus the light's wavelength. The value of these alternative modes, other than HR, is still a topic of discussion. Nevertheless, they are generally based on narrowing the range of light used by HR. I cannot confirm their usefulness, but they're there to try. Overall, this IPL device appears to be decent, includes ICE cooling, and the additional modes are a bonus (although I remain doubtful about their practicality).     • Great hair removal tool!
So, if you're looking into this, you probably have an idea of what this thing does exactly. And yes, it 'zaps' the hair follicles, and after weeks/months of use, it slows the growth of new hair to a crawl! Now, as for this at-home market, it is flooded with these devices - they all promise the same thing, come at different power levels and of course, price. This one does have it all, and it works amazingly well. I own another more familiar brand, and without naming it specifically, it was almost double the price, and it works exactly the same. So with that background, I know what to expect from these IPL devices. First off, use eye protection. All of these can damage your sight. Secondly, follow the directions! They're clear and very important to prevent irritation and burns. With that being said, this device powers up instantly and has a more than long enough power cord to easily do legs, arm, body. It does have some weight to it, but nothing that an average adult can't handle. Once you get your routine down, it becomes faster to use and easier to maneuver. Again, this is about the same weight, size, and shape as my more expensive IPL device. There are multiple modes (explained in the listing) that allow for a faster session. Also, the 'cooling' effect is nice, especially on the higher power levels. Make sure to start low and work your way up on the intensity. Definitely to a 'test' spot to ensure you wont burn your skin as well. I never had any problems, but if you have extremely sensitive skin, I could see it being a concern. Another note, make sure the hair you are trying to removed is shaved (as stated) and is a darker color - light or colorful hair wont be effected as much, because how the laser works. Darker the hair, the more effective. All this being said, I have used LUBEX Sapphire Ice-Cooling Laser Hair Removal tool for my feet, and have had wonderful results. It is all about being consistent and following the guide.     • Bulky to hold
I haven't used an at home laser hair system in at least 5 years, so I was very excited to experience a newer technology. And so far, this does not disappoint. The cooling effect is great, and minimal pain is felt when using this device. I am starting to notice some reduction in the blonde hairs above my upper lip. However, the device is bigger than those I've use in the past, so it is a bit heavy to hold and awkward to hold. Its also difficult to get into smaller crevices. Cool on skin, easy to use, doesn't hurt at all. Pretty color, feels nice to hold. I've noticed my hair growing back slower and less thick. Been using it 3x a week, and will update my review after a couple months and report back on how it's working.

My wife and I have both used this, and have seen good results. It's been 6 weeks and her leg hair is much thinner, and gone in many areas. Another few weeks and it will be down to maintenance/touchups. The "many areas" could be down to user error and missing a spot. Legs are a large thing to cover with a small flash surface. Follow the directions and you'll be hair free in weeks. It comes with a cheap pair of protective glasses. I would recommend upgrading to a pair you know are certified for the right wavelength but my advice, avoid stairing at the flash either way. Lasers can cause damage. It's fairly large, so if you have small hands maybe get a helper for the hard to reach back of the leg spots. Pretty happy, much more affordable and convenient than in office appointments! ... show more
