The tool, itself, is of so-so quality. Not high quality. Additionally, if you are trying to remove valve springs from a cylinder head that has been removed from the block, you can stand on the head at 130lbs and be lifted by the valves without releasing the keepers. Anyone building LS heads will appreciate this valve spring compressor tool for it's ease of use and small footprint in the tool box. It works with your own 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar and comes with the cap screws to secure to the head. I like the red because it stands out and easier to find at a glance. I barely made it through one set of heads. I will admit it’s been a while since I’ve done valve springs. These keepers were very stuck. After ripping through the aluminum on one side of the tool (see pics attached) I realized I should hit the retainer with a small hammer (use a socket to straddle the keeper, and apply the pressure to the retainer, while the valve is stationary. I used a c clamp normally use for wood, to hold the valve in its seat, then did this), which would help to release the keeper tension. Once I did this, it was much easier to get the keeper to release from the retainer, and took less pressure from the tool. Small learning curve, maybe the tool would last longer if I had remembered this sooner. ... show more
