  • Fantastic value, function for the price! (Let me share my "Journey" on the install)
Size: 5 Inch
The Hook 2 is a great product for those that want to really understand the structure of any lake with great screen resolution, mapping and abilty to operate the GUI. I am very impressed. This will serve any 10ft Kayak to much larger boat on the water. Of course you can spend a ton more money if your so inclined or need. Mounting the head unit was simple of the deck of my SOT Pelican Catch 100; easy-peasy. The transducer on the other-hand was the "Journey" First I didn't want to have to buy mounting arms to hang it over the side. For one the mounting arms out their for Yaks are designed for much smaller Transducers such as the SplitShot. Also having crap hang over the side of a Kayak is no fun when you're fishing shallow waters or have a 6lbs LM Bass wrap itself around the transducer. These transducers and the mounting hardware are more designed/engineered for a traditional John Boat or other square & flat sterned boat; they simply were not "design" or thought to be used on a Fishing Kayak. So? I was determined to have this sit on the bottom of my hull and utlize one of the Scupper holes to feed the transducer cable in a clean install without mounting arms or cables all over the the Yak. So before you read on about how I solved my Transducer install, let me finish with saying that as a sonar/scanner "Fish Finder" the Hook 2 is a great product and will serve even a tournament fisherman(woman) well. Read on for the install and hopefully the attached pictures or of some interest. The following are excerpts from two other product reviews of items I bought to assist in the install. The "Journey": Review of the Lowrance 000-10606-001 Kayak Scupper Mount for Skimmer Type Transducers: The Lowrence site make no mention that this product works only for a SplitShot transducer. Fortunate as an engineer with the right tools I was able to modify this to work, it took some out of the box thinking. I used this along with the BerleyPro Hobie Lowrance Triple Shot Transducer Mount for the installation I wanted. ( I have also copied for your information if this helps, my review of this mount) The bottom mount for one was too narrow and shallow for the TripleShot as the connection gear is larger on the TripleShot. Let me say if your using a Splitshot this product is Perfect! and easy to install. I was fortunate to have a hull shape on my Kayak that allowed my install to work with some cutting and engineering. Not the biggest of deal breakers, but really required me to think this through. The Pictures show what I am conveying. The BerlyPro mount is needed for a bottom hull install as the TripleShot would be exposed to potential damage from shallow water of getting the Yak out of the water and the weight of the TripleShot would not be adequately supported from this Lowrence Scupper Mount. My biggest complaint was the Tech-Staff at Lowrence was completely unaware of this in the least bit what-so-ever. They were dumb-founded. From review on the BerleyPro Hobie Lowrance Triple Shot Transducer Mount -BP2610: I was fully aware that this BerleyPro Hobie Lowrance Triple Shot Transducer Mount was for a Hobie Yak. However, the triple shot is much longer than a split shot of traditional chirp/down scan only transducers, thus, using arms hanging over the side of your yak from Yak-Attack or Scotty leaves it prone to movement and requires constant adjustment, especially if your fishing through heavy weeks flipping and pitching or shallow water. I used and adapted this to the bottom of the hull for my Pelican Catch 100. Fortunately the bottom is dead flat and I was able to adapt this to sit not only on the bottom but to have the mount utilize one of the scupper holes for a clean install. the two side pontoons of my hull leaving this safe from hitting the bottom. I attached this product using Well/Hull nuts and a combination of 3M 5200 & 4200 Sealant. Works like a charm! If you own a Hobie, your in luck! the Hull is already formed to receive this and all you need to do is screw it in with the factory installed hull/well nuts. Good Luck ... show more

  • Super awesome and super user friendly!!!
Size: 5 Inch
I have nothing but good things to say about this unit. Being an avid fisherman I wanted something easy and quick that would let me get all the features without going through a ton of menus and a ton of "adjusting". The Hook2 5 does just that for me. Its super easy to setup and super easy to use all the features that come with it. You cannot be disapointed in buying this product. Compare the price of this unit to others and you will see you dont need to spend all that money to get sidescan, downscan and Chirp not to mention maps and GPS. The clarity screen display is awesome. On this unit you can also scroll back. If you see something and want to go back and locate it and waypoint it you can. Lowrance did a great job with this unit. I can not wait till the spring of 2019 so I can get out there and really work it. Pros: -Downscan -Sidescan -Under $500 -Easy to install and setup -Compact -Easy on batteries -Amazing maps! Cons: -None as of today! Will update when I get more time with the unit and I expose it to the elements. ... show more

  • Compact graph with lots of features
Size: 5 Inch
This Hook 2 is such a great unit for the price. You get full down and side scan along with sonar and gps with a small compact unit that can be used in a smaller boat or kayak. I have it placed on my small river boat and love having all the great functions in a graph I can place on and remove quickly and easily. Plan to use it for ice fishing with the ice pack to have full gps functionality along with sonar. So much functionality for the price. Would definitely recommend to someone who is looking for something that is compact without compromising the features. ... show more

  • Bright screen and simple to use.....I like it.
Size: 5 Inch
This locator is just the right size to use on my boat and on my UTV as a gps. I have only used it a few times but I am super impressed with the features. The triple shot is awesome...I can see in all directions. When I take this ice fishing I can use the side views to help me locate structure and fish under the ice ....no need to guess if I am in the right spot...the locator will tell where to move. The display was easier to read in direct light than my last unit. I like to play with the settings but being able turn it on and automatically set up is nice. I think I will still make adjustments for my style. Overall I am pleased with the purchase and I bought another hook2 for my nephew as an early Christmas present. I found the mounting really easy and anyone who is handy with basic tools should have no problem. The triple shot transducer is a little larger that I thought it would be but it certainly is not in the way. Beacuase I am in Canada 🇨🇦 I am adding a map chip of Canadian lakes. I was also pleasantly surprised at the clarity of the screen....at 52 my eyesight isn’t that great so I couldn’t possibly go with any smaller of a screen. The downscan imaging is a nice feature, I thought it may be hard to interpret but it was good. ... show more

  • The Perfect Size
Size: 5 Inch
I had always wanted to get a Lowrance sounder for my Hobie Revolution 13 "Lowrance Ready" Kayak. But the feature and units they have can get overwhelming fast. It really boils down to a couple of different size factors for me. I found a place that had the Hook2 5,7, 9 and 12 inch screen sizes all next to each other. The 5" is actually bigger than I thought, and the quality of the display is excellent and bright. Although I have not had the unit running yet out on the water yet. Hoping to see some exciting views and visuals with the all in one Triple Shot transducer! Special hull plate can be found for the triple shot transducer. This particular unit comes preloaded with maps for 4000 lakes! Except the most important lake of all "Lake Havasu". But I digress. The unit along with the Hobie kit installs perfectly. I used the 1.5 inch ball Hobie Ball systems and swivel mounts which help extend the Unit towards you depending on placement, and to keep it perfectly in place based on the amount of motion and jarring you can get while on the water. I was able to place the unit on my left just forward of the rudder controls, just aft of the first foot notch. I used a slide lock ball mount for the hull attachment. Keeping it on the top rail, allows for maximum articulation of the brackets. Once back from the trip, I'll try and update this review for the brightness effects, and some pics of the installation while in operation on the water. ... show more

  • Look elsewhere
Size: 7 Inch
I excitedly bought this to use on my kayak to aid in fishing for bass. Installation went exactly as I had planned with no issues. Using the device was where everything fell flat. I chose the unit with the pre-installed maps in hopes to utilize contours to help narrow down areas to fish. However, I've been to 6 or 7 lakes now in central NC and not a single time have the maps been helpful. Although they do contain some contours, they only display a line for every 10 feet of depth change (a single line at 10ft., a single line at 20ft., etc.). This ruins any benefit the maps would have provided. The downscan chart also gets "stuck" whenever I find myself in ~3.5ft. Since I'm in a kayak, I find myself being blown a little closer to shore (as well as enjoying to fish shallow) fairly often. Whenever the chart hits ~3.5ft, the depth will freeze and not change regardless of how deep of water I move my kayak. The bottom displayed will change, the depth stated at the top will not, and the scale will not (meaning if I go into 20 ft, the bottom just disappears from the screen. I may see anything marked in the top 5ft of the water column, I'm not sure). This is only fixed by turning the device off and back on. My last day on the water I did this probably close to a dozen times before my 7AH battery died after 3 hours leaving me to fish the rest of the day without a depthfinder. ... show more

  • Not very happy with it
Size: 5 Inch
Pros: Nice bright large screen (I bought 5" version) that is easy to see even in direct sunlight Cons: Side scan and structure scan are crappy No options to change any colors or contrast in the settings No ability to create your own topographical maps of areas you travel over I regret purchasing this over the Garmin Striker Plus 4 CV. The Garmin is cheaper and by the looks of what I've seen in online videos since purchasing this unit, the Garmin looks better hands down. I bought this specifically because it has side scan for structure, but it is total crap. Can't make out anything on the screen. The Garmin videos i've seen look like you can actually make out underwater objects that you're seeing on the screen (stumps, branches, sunken shopping cart, sunken car, sunken boat, etc...). This unit is absolutely useless for the structure and side scan. Also, a big negative IMO is that this unit allows you to download maps from some online source onto a SD card, but not the ability to actually make your own topographical maps as you go over areas, which the Garmin can do, and this Lowrance can not do. It does, however, track your route and all that via GPS and allow you to mark locations of interest and such, which the Garmin can also do. The regular downward fish finder works ok, but even that doesn't make real clear defined marks. When I went over a large round "hole" of a fishing spot (about 14 feet deep and 100 yards in diameter) I could see a large bait ball and some marks all around it, but the fish were schooling so thick and jumping all over the place that it was really obvious there was a lot of fish/action in that area anyways. However, in all the other places I went in the canals around my area, I didn't see any noticeable marks even though I know there's largemouth stacked everywhere, because I catch them everywhere. It does do a decent job of reading the bottom, but I've never ran into a fish finder that didn't. ... show more

  • Excellent unit. Best for the price
Size: 5 Inch
I purchased and mounted this unit on a 15' smokercraft Alaskan jet boat, that is used to run shallow, Rocky rivers and lake fish, chasing walleye. This is my first unit with side scan, and I'm very impressed. It's truly plug-and-play, you can view all three sonar technologies from one screen, and the maps in my area are accurate. Very happy with the purchase. Just an fyi, the transducer is MASSIVE compared to a traditional unit. About 6" long. Overall, an excellent unit I'm happy to have and it finds fish! ... show more
