Color: 3*Softbox with arm boom
Ok, full disclosure… I’m a complete amateur. The kind that gets a few compliments because of a few cell phone snapshots and then decides they need to a dslr only to realize just how much phones do the work for you. So far, I reaaaally suck on that dslr. Everything is dark. I hate my photos, and I kinda want to cry that I spent so much money on a camera I clearly had no business buying for a “weekend hobby” when my cell phone works just fine with no extra equipment. Flash forward, I put the typical armature’s research in and decided I could fix all of my problems by buying a light kit. I skimmed a few articles on google, read some reviews on Amazon and pulled the plug. I bought a kit. Not this one. Another one. I set it all up and found out I still suck at the dslr. So… I do what any self-respecting amateur does. I decided I would buy more gear. This time I put more into the research before deciding. Based on the kind of photography I am interested in this kit seemed to fit the bill so I dropped another chunk of change in an attempt to get the pieces for a kit that would actually do me some good. The kit came. The equipment looks like it is in good shape BUT IT WAS MISSING PIECES! I’m devastated. Obviously, I’m going to continue being terrible at photos because the pieces I was looking most forward to using were the exact pieces that didn’t come. I grumpily reach out to Amazon, who was zero help btw. Asked a ton of questions and had me thinking they were going to do literally anything only to have them tell me reach out to the manufacturer. Did they even attempt to give a small tip on how to figure out how to get ahold of the company? Nope. Now, I’m feeling extra fussy. My fame and fortune as a famous photographer is shot. I know I am way too stubborn to put these items back in the box and ship them back for a refund. I’m going to put this kit in the closet and stop picking up stupid hobbies. … except then I found a business card in the box. So… I emailed the company and told them in as many words how unhappy I was with the kit. (keep in mind the missing pieces in no way, shape, or form will actually improve my personal skill level shooting photos and don’t really matter in the grand scheme of life. I’m cranky and I need a reason to suck at photos that has nothing to do with me.) They responded, slowly, adding to my aggravation. While I waited for a resolution, figuring since the parts that were missing were so stupidly unimportant, I likely wouldn’t get more than a “sorry”, I dug out the kit and begin playing around with it. It’s actually a h3ll of a kit. There are plenty of different styles of umbrellas and soft light boxes. I was able to line them up and start playing around with angles and reflector colors to see wth happens to make photos work. The kit was extremely easy to set up. The stands, even though the kit was super cheap, were almost identical to the expensive ones I bought in my first set. I now regret buying the first kit even more. By the end of the first week, I stopped caring that the pieces were missing. The kit was good. Better than good. I was actually having fun playing with my camera even though my photos still suck. That’s all I really wanted anyway. Something to entertain me, right? (yup.) Well, today I came home and there was a box at my door. Turns out the company more than made sure I would be happy that I bought my kit from them. Going forward, any new ideas I get about purchasing gear, my first stop will be with this group because if it’s not perfect, they will make it perfect. …Please note, I tried not to be mean in my emails with the rep because you know the person answering those emails isn’t the person sending out the kit from the Amazon warehouse. If you order this kit and it’s missing something. Don’t be a jerk. There’s a lot of parts and statistically, a few people will wind up not getting every single item. Back to the kit. It’s a h3ll of a kit like I said. If you’re an amateur, or you need the bare bones, get this kit. It might be a little more or a little less money than the other one you’re looking at but it’s worth it. The pieces are solid, they fit well where they are supposed to go. The screws are loose enough you can unscrew them without tools (unlike the other kit I bought), and strong enough to hold firm without having to crank down tightening them. The hold their weight well and despite an amateur knocking them around fumbling to set up, they aren’t easy to scuff and scratch (so far). The wrinkles came out of the back drops with a little wash and a pop into the dryer on a low setting. I wasn’t a fan of the clips because I kept breaking them but then I realized that the design is actually good because the feet popping off kept me from breaking them when I was letting them snap closed. The lighting is good too. Strong light doing exactly what strong light is supposed to do. A good variety of pieces all easy to set up and tear back down. Same for the backdrop frame. Very easy to put together and holds up well. The kit overall does exactly what it’s supposed to and has a pretty good quality compared to the price paid. More importantly, the company behind it cares both about the products they’re sending as well as the customers their serving. That makes it a 5 out of 5. ... show more

  • Everything you need and more for beginners!
Color: 3*Softbox with arm boom
Give this a try and you won't be disappointed. I purchased this set because of the wide variety of stands, backdrops, and other tools included. The equipment provided is very durable, especially the lightboxes. Is it the most durable and highest quality set out there? No, but for how affordable it is and all that it includes, you can't go wrong. The box lights are my favorite because they add the perfect amount of filtered light. If you purchase this set, just know that you may want to invest in brighter bulbs for all the stands. I switched to LED bulbs, though the fluorescent bulbs are good for photography and videography. I use the backdrop everytime I shoot. I mainly do product photography and I love how easily adjustable everything is. This is definitely going to be my main kit for years to come. ... show more

  • It gets the job done!
Color: 3*Softbox with arm boom
This is a great set for beginners or photographers who want a light weight travel set. I like the size and light weight of the stands. The umbrellas are thin but they get the job done. The material for the soft lights are thicker and sturdier. I definitely liked how quick and easy it was to set them (the soft lights) up. I did have an issue with my rectangular soft lights but I contacted customer support and it was resolved pretty quickly. The backdrops are very wrinkled but they do come out. The clips that hold the backdrop in place are surprisingly stronger then I thought they would be which is great. The bulbs could be brighter but it’s bright enough. Overall, this set is quick to set up and a great value for the money. ... show more

  • Lights aren't strong
Color: 3*Softbox with arm boom
These lights come in handy with photography and videos but they are all kind of weak so you really need to have multiple in use at a time to get the lighting right. Also, the cords are not very long at all. This is an issue especially if you plan on raising the lights up because the cords start at the back of the light rather then the bottom of the stand so when have it plugged in and you raise the lights you do not have much wiggle room to move them about. An extension cord is a must! ... show more

  • I'm NOT A "Pro" Photographer - So This Is GREAT For My Purposes.
I am in no way, shape or form a "Photographer" on ANY level, really. What I am is a "Marketing/Promotion" specialist. I work with - and run the website for - a local notable Pro Wrestling promotion and one of the issues we've been having is getting quality promo pics of the wrestlers/referees/talent, etc. We have some "backdrops," but they are cluttered with logos and things. So I purchased this set-up to have and be able to bring to shows/events for quick set-up to take updated promo pics of the talent at the show on any given date. So far, it has been a VERY worthwhile purchase and - when we DO have a photographer around to take pics - we've been able to get some GREAT updated promo pics to use for the website and other marketing/promotional purposes. So while I cannot comment (with any valid authority) as to whether Intermediate/Advanced photographers would feel this kit a worthwhile investment, I CAN say that I am VERY happy with the purchase/investment thus far and would recommend it to anyone at/on a similar level looking to fill a similar need. Hope That Helps !!! ... show more
