  • Great geofencing capabilities!!!
THE GOOD • Compared to MyQ, it's easier to use and far more flexible. The Tuya/Smart Life platform is rock solid in my experience, and integrates flawlessly with Googl Home and Alexa. Happy to drop the MyQ app which was always trying to upsell me on integrations I didn't need. (FYI, I won't be integrating my garage door opener with Googl or Alexa, because the idea that someone outside my home could just yell "Hey Google, open the garage" doesn't sit well with me... but I could if I wanted to and I appreciate the fact that it's allowed without any further charges / upsells.) • I LOVE the geofencing capabilities that come with the Smart Life app. I've set this to open my garage door when I enter a geofence (106m) around my home, and close the opener when I leave the geofence. It literally just opens when I arrive, and it literally just closes when I leave without any thought on my part. • Set up is very easy - especially if you are accustomed to using the SmartLife app. I've personally started using only home automation products that use this app - its reliable, fast, and the devices are very affordable via Amazon. • The SmartLife app starts up much faster than the MyQ app. I rarely use the MyQ app because it takes forever to open, then you have to log in, then you get to the open door screen. The process with MyQ only takes 15 seconds, but it feels like forever, and it's about 12 seconds too long. • It's ETL listed. This is important! All electrical "stuff" should be UL or ETL listed. INSTALL TIPS • I programmed this to my WiFi before physically installing it. Just makes setup slighly more convenient. Like many SmartLife items, I had to program it manually - the slow blink mode using my iPhone 11 (iOS 14.6). • See the pic attached... I connected the magnet that triggers the open/close sensor directly to the "carriage" that rides back and forth inside a channel / track with the double-sided tape two very small screws. Then I attached the sensor to the track. Doing some testing, as long as they're within 3/4" apart, it works great. If your opener has a carriage that wraps around the track, this method may not work for you. Then, I used some hot melt glue to attach the wire to the top of the track to bring it back to the GD opener motor unit and the Lomota device. This gives it a very clean looking install, and I really don't see any extra wires. THE TBD • I still need to play around with this to make sure it doesn't false open / stop when it should close - Let me try to explain... ○ There are four "states" the door can be in. 1)Closed, 2)Open, 3)Closing, 4)Opening. ○ The sensor can determine state 1 - if the door is closed. But, unlike MyQ, which I had at my last house, the Lomota has no way of differentiating between open, opening, or closing (states 2, 3, & 4)... it only knows that it's NOT "closed". In theory, if it's in the process of closing (but not yet "closed"), and someone / something triggers another close action, the device could try to close it again and interupt the closing process - like pressing the wall button while it's in the process of closing but not yet fully closed. ○ To combat this, I will create an automation in the Smart Life app whereby whenever it things the door has been open for one hour, it automatically closes the door and send me a notification. This way I'll learn over time, how often this automation actually triggers, and whether or not it's something to truly be concerned about. To be clear this is strictly a redundant measure - I expect the Lomota device to work flawlessly, but being new to it, I'm trying to think through "what could go wrong". THE BAD • I suppose the security of the MyQ app may be superior in that it forces you to log in Every. Single. Time., but honestly, it's a PITA. I want convenience, and I'm not trying to build Fort Knox. If someone really wants to break in to my house, all they need to do is break a window and climb through. I think the security features built into Smart Life are *reasonable* and that's just fine for me. • I can't think of anything. negative to write, other than the slightest concern about it's inability to distinguish between the three non-closed states (open, opening, and closing). I don't suspect this will be an issue, so I'm not deducting any stars, but I also have an automation set up which will alert me how often (if ever), the opener is open when it shouldn't be. —-Update after 6 weeks of owning this—- So after six weeks, I have to say I love this thing. • “Siri, [open/close] the garage“ is awesome! • I don’t use geofencing to open the garage anymore… only to close it. I’ve found that on rare occasion the smart life app doesn’t realize I’m home until well after I’ve arrived… causing it to open the garage when I didn’t want it to. That’s bad. But, being able to add the “push to run” automations to Siri, works just as easily. I literally don’t even reach for the clicker in the car anymore! • the alerts are a little wonky, but I’m pretty sure that’s because of my settings • this starts up in the smart life app MUCH faster than the MyQ system I had in my previous home • it just works • I would never go back to MyQ after this, this is so much better at a fraction of the cost. ... show more

  • Highly recommended if you are looking to add "Smart" to your garage door opener.
I have to start off with saying how easy the installation of this device is and got it working in a couple of minutes after installation. Both my garage openers are MyQ Compatible and I had configured them to work with MyQ, One of the garage door openers I have is a Genie Model 3055 that is MyQ compatible and worked with an external MyQ adapter that I have installed and the second is a Chamberlain B550 Wi-Fi controlled garage door opener that is MyQ enabled. I had configured both to work with MyQ. MyQ provides all the features needed but is not Alexa enabled. I just felt the need to add this feature (Alexa integration) and chose to select Lomota as opposed to the more expensive alternatives. Most of the other features this provides are redundant for me. The fact is that all similar devices from various other brands look identical with identical components, Lomota being the most economical. Since I already can monitor and manage my garage door openers remotely I didn't want to invest in a more expensive device. I ordered two of these devices, one for each opener. Installation was a breeze. I already have the TuyaSmart app installed and chose that to configure both the devices to connect to WiFi prior to installing them to the door openers. It is similar to configuring any other smart devices. I chose to install the sensors that let the device know whether the garage door is open/close to the top of the garage door as shown in the pictures above. I tested their functionality prior to installation to make sure that the positions of the sensors did not matter as long as they are in close proximity of each other (the manual says they can be up to an inch apart) the non-wired piece has a strong magnet in it. I installed the device first to the Genie door opener and once I powered it up and used the app to open/close the garage door, it worked as expected. I also noticed that the device almost instantly connects to the WiFi once powered on. The Chamberlain B550 however was not compatible to this device right out of the box and on reading further on the product page they do mention that it may not be compatible with WiFi enables garage openers to begin with. I was a little disappointed not with the device but that it wasn't compatible, as the product description has already mentioned this and I knew I was taking a chance with the product to work with this garage opener. They do however also mention that if this device is not compatible Lomota would send a "free" adapter. I wrote to their customer service and I have to say I was very impressed with their prompt and professional response, they inquired about my garage door opener model and sent me the adapter (an RGR910 remote opener) that you have to connect to the wires that are supposed to be connected the garage door opener terminals. So basically the Lomota device when activated would trigger this remote to open/close the Chamberlain B550 garage opener, this setup worked like a charm, I left the device on top of the openers as shown in the pictures above. So now I have two garage openers that are Alexa enabled! I like the fact that this device sends you alerts if you leave the garage door open for long (I had left it open while doing some yard work and I kept getting notifications that the garage door was left open for a long time) you can configure this under the "Alarms" tab in the app for this device and set the "Overtime reminder" for a time length you choose. In one instance the battery of the Genie garage opener in the car died so we chose to use the MyQ app to open the garage out of habit and the app notified that the MyQ device had lost WiFi connection hence could not open the garage door! I then opened the TuyaSmart app selected the Garage door to open and to my surprise it worked! Lomota had saved the day! not sure how the MyQ device lost the WiFi connection while the Lomota still was connected to the same WiFi network. To me Lomota was worth the investment. Given the ease of installation/excellent customer service and ease of setup/use, I would without hesitation recommend this product to anyone wanting to install this device to add all the smart features this device has to offer to your garage opener. ... show more

  • App no longer exists
Cleaned out the garage to get to the garage door opener. Hooked it up to the terminals, then it wouldn't connect. Whatever next device I buy, I'll connect first. Have had no issues connecting several smart devices. It's not hard. In this case it wasn't possible. App no longer exists. Smart Life app couldn't connect to device, even with it sitting under the router, using both modes available to connect. Returned for refund. Looking elsewhere. ... show more

  • It is work with eWise but not well with Alexa
Well it does work with eWise app and it's very good. Installation took a bit bc it is very complicated to install closer. You have to be creative to set it up in same line as your old 24V closers . You need to add something to make it to fit . Ok ..downside it do not work well with Alexa bc it get your garage stack soon when you try to open , meaning it do not work well with existing remotes and wall remote Let me explain that. Alexa ask for password so when you add password you immediately can throw away your remotes bc they will not work together properly. You do not have on your wireless remotes screen so you can't give password (that's the problem). When you add Alexa it will work only with phone and password bc closer make it malfunction. You do need password with Alexa bc if you don't anybody will open your garage . So my advice is do not add Alexa if everybody else in household do not use phone. Keep using eWiseHome and it work perfect. This is why I am giving 4 stars. Other than that work fine and it's cheap and work fine with Genie intellicode 2 which I have ... show more
