I ordered my first package of bees from the big "bee guys". They were sold out by the time I had set up my third hive. I spent a lot of time attempting to find a company that still had honeybee packages and good reviews. There appears to be a large problem with the companies shipping the bees using UPS GROUND or USPS and having the bees die during shipping. My "big guys" package and the Mellivo both arrived by UPS on the same day, The Mellivo were shipped using UPS AIR. The bees alive and feisty. When I put them into the hive I noticed they still had food left in their bee bus. There were no more than ten dead bees. My "big bees guys" used UPS GROUND. It was noticeable that the bees were in distress. When I put them into the hive 75% fell to the bottom dead. There was no food left. When I contacted that company I received an AUTOMATED REPLY that they would issue me a full refund. They advised me that the problem was due to UPS. I paid $185.95 for my mostly dead bees (the queen was alive). I paid $209.99 for my Mellivo bees. I would have gladly paid the additional $24.04 price difference to have my other bees arrive alive, healthy and ready to get down to their bee business. I will buy from Mellivo in the future because it appears that they actually care for the bees they are shipping.

Thank you, Thank you, Mellivo! This was by far the easiest way I have ever ordered bees. When I ordered packages in the past, I have had to really search to find someone who sells them. Then I would have to drive to pick them up. A couple of times I've driven a 4 hour round trip just to get them. I've tried to buy through my local bee club and have had mixed experiences with availability or getting them delivered. But again, I had to drive somewhere to pick them up. Right on schedule, these ladies came to my front step via UPS. I pulled the queen cage, treated the rest of the package for mites. I installed the queen in an modified top bar hive (the Cathedral Hive design), dumped the package, and that was it. They have taken off! The hive had some drawn comb in it already, so they worked with that for serveral weeks. Now, they have nearly double the amout of comb from where they started. in only a few days. You can see it in the pictures with the viewing window. The whole process was incredibly easy from start to "finish". The bees are very mellow. When it cools down a bit, I'll do a proper hive inspection. I've only been in the hive once since installation to check laying patten. But when I peek in the window to check progress, there are more and more bees, and they are all shiny and healthy looking. Yes, the price in considerably more than other packages I've bought. BUT, in talking with the seller, (and yes, I actually got to contact him and ask questions) I learned the price for the actual package is competitve with other package sellers. The additional cost is because of live-animal shipping costs through UPS. I was happy to pay that this time because I figured I would spend that amount in gas to pick them up. So to me, it's absolutely fair and a lot easier that having to coordinate schedules. Thanks Again!

Got the notification of shipment earlier than expected. Transfer was completed and they seemed happy enough. Queen was alive, and I think i only saw about 10 dead bees dead in bottom of box. Overall a very good shipment. The shipping container was exactly as shown, upon delivery, UPS driver was a bit freaked as this was his first package delivery :)

Bees arrived within one day of them being shipped 99% were alive and well very few dead ones on the bottom. Queen was alive and well would recommend now for the not so great part. The queen come in a queen box obviously that's fine however my suggestion to mellivo is put the queen with a couple nurse bees with candy and cork plug... reason being as I was installing the package (I didn't want to have to reopen and disturb too soon) I was attempting to place place a marshmallow in place of the cork stopper unfortunately things happen and the queen flew right out while I was fumbling with the cork. Not at all the suppliers fault just something that very well could have been prevent with some candy then a cork otherwise great supplier can't really complain will probably order again when available next time tho will definitely do something different with queen if the same setup comes Edit for those who are curious this shipped from m California I'm located in South East US so very quick shipping

They came in a plastic "BeeBus" in excellent condition. Was disappointing that the gel food had come out of the plastic feed bottle and was worried that some of the bees seamed to be stuck to it. In all only had about 30 dead out of the entire package, and the bees that were stuck in the gel most made it out and cleaned them selves up.

Very strong and healthy bees, make sure you install the bees right away if you leave them in the box the longer the more will die.
