  • Great little pump and easy to use
Style: 10-Ft. Cord, Manual
I have a 75 gallon outdoor fountain and this little pump does the trick on draining it on average once per week. It does not have an on/off button but thats fine. Just plug it in and it goes. The pump works well down to about an inch to half an inch. I vacuum the fountain anyway so I just use a wet vac to get the rest. The pump is very efficient. It drains my fountain in less than five minutes including both the base as well as the fountain bowl/vase that sits in it. You will need at least a 6 foot hose in my opinion and the longer the better as it really spits out the water. A standard garden hose work well. Just plug it in and it starts right up. You do have to watch though and when it gets down towards the bottom you need to unplug it so it doesn't overheat. It really makes quick work and I"ve used it now for about 3 months. Highly recommended at this point. ... show more

  • Very durable!!
Style: 10-Ft. Cord, Manual
We had one of these for 30 years. We just had to buy a new one. It does a great job at removing water from our pool cover. We love it.

  • It’s a great pump
Style: 10-Ft. Cord, Manual
The pump is of good quality and lasts submerged outside over pool cover the whole winter. It’s good for about 3-4 years.

  • Little Giant 5-MSP submersible utility pump
Style: 10-Ft. Cord, Manual
As to the pump. I knew what I wanted as I had purchased the same pump about 6 years ago. I used it, abused it, and broke some of the manufacturer's instructional "do-nots". Last summer it showed some early warning signs of eventual failure and finally died late in December 11. I definitely got my money's worth out of this little pump and I used it for bigger volumes than it is likely intended for. If you're not in too big a hurry, it will reliably move the water. After the old one failed, I shopped locally & on line for a replacement and Amazon easily had the best price and offered "super-saver" shipping as well. I could afford to wait until the estimated "super-saver" delivery time but not much more. The pump arrived on time but to my dismay, the to be included piece that allowed for connection to a garden hose was missing. My water build-up from interim rains were just about at my breaking point and the next heavier rain was forecasted for only two days away. I couldn't use the pump without the garden hose adaptor. I called the supplier hoping they might overnight me the piece but, given inventory availability, their estimate of shipping was some days away. They did send the piece at no cost to me but it arrived about two weeks after I absolutely needed to use the pump. I tried to cannibalize the same piece off the old pump but it had been in place for so long I didn't have the strength to remove it and if I did I'm sure I would have stripped the threads beyond use. Now the missing piece is nothing more than a PVC reducer, threaded into the 1" pump discharge and threaded at the other end to allow you to attach a garden hose. So I went to a near by ACE Hardware store, paid $2.65 for two threaded PVC fittings to mirror the threaded ends of the missing piece, used PVC cement to attached them on either end of a small piece of scrap PVC pipe and I was in business. Actually I prefer my homemade reducer as it works better for my purposes. Back when the pump arrived with the missing piece, I also emailed Amazon. They immediately replied offering me options of returning the pump at no charge to me or to keep the pump in which case they would provide me a healthy discount. As I had my aforementioned home-made piece in mind and needed the pump right away I accepted the discount; one that more than paid for my gas, time, and cost of the PVS fittings. In their initial reply Amazon also noted that this miss was unusual relative to this supplier and I believe them. I spent a career in manufacturing and people who make good stuff (and I believe the Little Giant Pump is good stuff) generally try and do it right the first time. Why I like Amazon: I use them a lot as I find they have better prices, a super wide selection of goods, and stand behind what they peddle as evidenced by the very generous discount they afforded me. I didn't have to do squat as they merely credited my credit card. This is the first time I've ever had a glitch with an order and it actually turned out to be a pretty positive experience. ... show more

  • Not entirely dependable - still unsure
Style: 25-Ft. Cord, Manual
I had a little giant exactly like this for over 40 years. I've had it submerged in a fountain/waterfall for the past 6 years. I figured I would use it until it doesn't work anymore. It has been a pretty awesome tool. I needed to empty my pool to change out the water (14,000 gallons) but I didn't want to pull the 40+ year old pump out of my fountain, so I purchased a new Little Giant pump. I read the reviews and figured the integrity may have diminished over the years, but bought it anyway. It worked very well emptying my pool twice in 2 months. It took about 22 to 24 hours each of those two times. My old pump in the fountain finally bit the dust this week. Since I have the other new pump, I pulled it out to replace the old one. As I was getting it ready to put it in place I noticed some oil residue on the top of the new pump where the electrical cord goes into the plastic housing/body. I compared it to the old pump an clearly the way the company runs the the cord into the housing has changed. It used to be a plastic pop-in washer. Now it's a threaded sleeve that surrounds and tightens over a black rubber washer that's long and sleeves around the cord. It appears the threaded washer loosened slightly while the pump was in use and let a little oil escape/leak out. That threaded washer has two notches on top for a special tool to use to remove it, but I decided to put the points of a pair of needle nose pliers into those notches to tighten it. Then I thought, well, it could loosen again if I leave it as-is and let it run for several hours. Why wouldn't it? It already did it once. I decided to remove the threaded sleeve and put teflon tape around it before inserting it back into it's place and tightening it down again. I put water-proof tape over the top of the housing, around the cord entry and sleeve. Not to make it more water proof, but my thought was the tape adhering to both the housing and the sleeve might keep the sleeve from loosening again...if that makes sense to you. I just submerged it today, so I'll watch it and see how it goes. Right now it's working great. I'll try and report back in a few months. So anyway, I gave it three stars because I got initial good results. But if you're not a McGyver type handyman then maybe you don't want to take this chance on the Little Giant 505025 1/6 HP Submersible Utility Pump, 5-MSP 115 Volt 1200 GPH. Good luck!! UPDATE-UPDATE-UPDATE - 3/31/21 I pulled the unit from where it was submersed in the water. I found no leaks. I'm happy with the product, but keep in mind that I had to do the steps above in order to be satisfied. ... show more
