I read a lot of reviews on this before buying. A concern, I had read of the wood frame arriving and coming apart. Mine came very well packaged and the wood frame was solid! It was packed in a strong inner carton with air bags between it and the outer carton. Great job, maybe they read the reviews too. The "wood" frame is actually compressed wood overlaid with a wood print vinyl. It looks pretty good but you're not getting a solid oak frame at this price and neither did I. The darkness would approximately match a honey oak stain. It's not dark. The light is okay but not too bright as to be uncomfortable. I can't really tell how dark the wood is when looking with the light on because of its brightness so don't get too concerned about the exact color. It was an easy install but I am a carpenter. I did it myself with no help and if you take your time and follow the instructions you should be fine. One thing that will make it really helpful is if you have a screw that fits into the electrical box on the ceiling. I made 2 extra holes in the light mounting bracket and held it up with one screw into the electrical box on the ceiling. I could then mark my holes and turn the bracket sideways to make holes for the toggle bolts. Made it really easy for one person. If you don't have a screw that fits, the screw that holds the light frame on actually also fits an electric box. You could use it and then take it out after securing everything with the toggle bolts. The fixture came packed well, but frame was coming apart at one of the joints, as you can see in the photo. Fortunately I was able to use a rubber mallet to get the side to join again. The staples in the corner were not connecting the sides. The fixture was fairly easy to install. A helper is needed for the extra hands to hold the unit in place when installing. It's fairly bright, but is only 2800 lumens so not hospital room bright. ... show more

This light system is excellent. The trim is made from nice wood crown moulding, not cheap metal so it looks quality. It was fairly easy to install if installing anything overhead is easy. This was about as easy as one could expect. Brightness is equivalent to the two florescent tube lighting this replaced. The led lights consist of two strips, one along each inside edge. I really love the look of this light and the fixture itself works well - it's very bright. But the wood cover is a piece of crap. The first one I ordered was broken and 2 of the joins came apart. The replacement arrived and is even worse - it's in pieces. I tried to repair the first one since I had already installed the light fixture but the angle of the joins makes it difficult to glue and clamp. The first 3 photos are the replacement product still in the box. I didn't even take it out when I noticed all the joins were completely apart. The other 2 photos are the cover I tried to repair. I had reached out to the company to ask them to send me a replacement cover and they couldn't do that. I'm very disappointed that I'll need to uninstall this and return both units. On the 2 units I received, the joins are done with super small staples and no glue so it's no surprise they fell apart. I paid $90 for this and that is way too expensive for this level of quality. ... show more

    • Good light, nice appearance. However, exterior frame mounting is difficult and packaged with wrong hardware.

Not bad. Bought a pair of these to upgrade the lights in my mom's kitchen. The frames are real wood, with "oak" veneer paper on them. Nice match for her oak cabinets actually. They are bright, and the 4000K color balance worked well the kitchen. Both arrived well-packed with no damage. I'd given them a higher star rating, except that way the frame mounts to the fixture itself was a pain. The wood frame has a metal cleat on the inside (that you have to screw on yourself) that hooks to the fixture on one end, then the other end has a machine screw that runs through a hole in the wood and into the fixture on the other. Big complaint that I will deduct a star off for itself--the provided machine screw was too short so that was an extra trip to the hardware store (and the replacement ones aren't "brown" to match the frame, although not a big deal). So, double-check that on yours before the first trip to the hardware store. Ours were exactly the thickness of the wood frame in length, with none left over to thread into the fixture. Beyond bad QC/wrong hardware packaged, this design has two downsides. First, alignment is not positive so getting the frame lined-up to insert the screw is non-trivial. Second, there is no adjustment for cinching the frame up tight to the ceiling. They come with some foam weather-stripping-like material that you are to run along the top edge of the frame--the intent is to seal the gap between the frame and ceiling so there isn't a tell-tale crack of light showing. However, that's a bit cheesy, and didn't quite work for us (still some "leaks"). It might be worth upgrading to a better seal if you will care about that. The other issue is that unless you somehow luck-out and are mounting this exactly centered ceiling joists, you will need acquire toggle bolts or other hollow wall (ceiling) anchors--so add that to the hardware store list. Actually, we had some trouble with that, and ended-up drilling through the back of the fixture at the joist location and screwing through, which, in retrospect, is probably the better/more secure way to mount this anyway. ... show more

*EDITED*. The original light did come damaged. I immediately contacted the seller, their website allowed me to file a claim, and they replaced it immediately. The light is beautiful in my kitchen and very bright. The light is very attractive, and I like the fact that it was made out of wood, real wood. But all four corners of the light fixture had come apart in the shipping process, apparently. A little disheartening to pay hard earned money for something that won’t stay together. ... show more
