This is something that you buy in hope that you never have to use. Honestly, it is great to have that piece of comfort. I have had to use it, and I can say from experience, that it saved my little boys life. The item on the first try, I am extremely grateful for this product.

My adult daughter is an experienced nurse in both trauma and pediatrics. In addition to this, she ran a shelter for at-risk, very young, pregnant and/or parenting girls. Along with all the babies that arrived. When I asked her for recommendations for a comprehensive first aid or emergency kit for a remote area, this was just about first on the list. I've now purchased 3. One is at my house. One is at the isolated cabin, and one is about to be given as part of a baby shower gift consisting of health and first aid necessities. (Like thermometers and so on.) The importance of having this was drilled home to me after my friend's 20-year-old son choked to death on cheese and crackers while alone at home. This, said my daughter, could have been used on himself, and had he had one, he might still be here today. The instructions are simple and clear. The mechanism itself is simplicity (like a plunger for a sink drain). Just . . . get one. Like a fire extinguisher, if ever you need it, you'll be sorry if you don't have it. ... show more

    • This should be in every home, every vehicle, every place of business.
Choking is a very real fear and a very real possibility for anyone who eats food by mouth, and that means that everyone should have easy access to one of these at any time food is being consumed. A single bite can put someone's life at risk. I have one in my kitchen and one in my van. I make sure everyone knows that I have it and where it is. I also made sure that the non-profit summer camp I work at has them in the kitchen, nurse station, and in the first aid kit. I hope that every single one of these that is purchased is a waste of money that never needs to be used. But, the peace of mind that it offers is worth it. It is such a brilliant invention. Spend the money -- get one (or two...). Buy them as gifts! Baby showers, bridal showers/weddings, house warmings, etc. One or two of these kits + a fire extinguisher are the perfect starting point for the perfect gift. ... show more

    • Haven’t had to use thank God but makes me feel better
I bought this mostly because I have 4 children and they make choking a freaking hobby. Generally I’m able to clear it but my husband freezes and loses it if someone chokes. I mostly bought to have if he was alone with them but also as a safeguard for me if I could t help them clear it. My second child choked on a chip and I couldnt clear it and it scared me so I bought this immediately after. If I had this when he choked I probably wouldn’t have had to call 911 and wonder if I needed to put my nursing skills to use on an emergency trach. Good for piece of mind. ... show more
