I'm a mosquito/gnat magnet and douse myself with bug spray when I walk my dog or garden pretty much any time of day. Even so, they get me and my bites itch and swell up unattractively, so I've had plenty of opportunities to use this Bug Bite Thing--bottom line is IT WORKS!! I find it works best to minimize itching/swelling if you can suction the bite location as soon as possible after you notice that you've been bitten and identify the bite-site. I do the suctions two times for each bite-site, for a solid 20 second-count (1 missouri, 2 missouri . . .) per suction, and the majority of the time, the area is barely itchy (if at all) and doesn't swell afterwards. A few times, I've actually suctioned a tiny bit of blood at the bite-site, and felt extremely satisfied knowing that the bugger's venom must have also been extracted. Just had one of those instance on my arm tonight, and there is no itch at all at that bite-site! I do find that the tool's effectiveness can be limited if the bites are on hard-to-suction areas (like my shin/ankle bones). Or if in a hard-to-reach area (back, shoulder etc) in which case I usually ask my husband to help. ... show more

I was skeptical about the Bug Bite Thing at first, but after using it several times on fresh mosquito bites, I have to admit — it actually works. It’s a simple suction tool that pulls out irritants like saliva or venom left behind by bugs, and it really does reduce swelling and itchiness if you use it right after getting bitten. The tool is compact, easy to clean, and safe for kids and adults. It’s painless, though the suction feels a little weird at first. I’ve used it on mosquito bites and minor bee stings with noticeable relief within minutes — especially on those bites that normally swell up and itch like crazy for days. This simple device is great for providing two modes of suction on bites. The washable tip is either a broad (7/8"D) or small (1/4"D) suction on a bite. The tip is removable for cleaning. It is easy to use with one hand, so that bites on a hand or arm can be treated. The recommendation is not on the neck or face (for embarrassment of a hickey or not is unclear). It is a simple device with considerable use, including splinters (of which I have copious from a wood shop). I haven't had it long enough to judge longevity, but will get back if it's not reliable. We love hiking and camping but the summer humidiy brings out the horrible misquitoes! Those bites itch like crazy. This thing seems to kind of work in relief. After talking to a couple of entomologists (my daughter is obsessed with bugs), they confirmed that you can't really suck the venom back out -once its done there is barely anything left just below the surface, but that the placebo effect is basically just as good. Is it truly doing what it advertises? Maybe it's not actually sucking out the venom, but if it's making you "feel" relief then it's doing its job as advertised. Whether just a mental game or not, it appears to help so it's great for kids. Why not make the $10 investment? ... show more

This is the second one I have bought for our household. I won’t go outside without it. We are recent transplants to Florida, and these are the meanest mosquitoes I’ve ever met. Sure, the Louisiana mosquitoes are the size of hummingbirds, but they’re not real go-getters unless you’re in the swamp. These Florida mosquitoes are sociopathic. Insanely aggressive and their bites are nasty and itchy. AND THEY ARE IN OUR BACKYARD! Two days ago I was in the yard and was attacked by a gang of these creatures. They dive-bombed me from all angles and chomped down on me more or less simultaneously. Side note: At the same time I learned that “natural” bug repellent made with essential oils might work on less ambitious mosquitoes, but it didn’t work with these. I ran inside to avoid further attack and grabbed the Bug Thing. I had a huge bite on my forehead (one of 12 bites in total), and it itched like crazy. I didn’t want to do to my face what I did to my arm a few years ago, scratching like a maniac while I slept and ending up with a scarred arm and blood-stained sheets. So I busted out the Bug Thing. In my eagerness to get rid of the itching, and because the bite was big, I kept the suction going for a long time. Too long, as it turns out. I didn’t read the instructions with our first Bug Thing, because it seemed self-explanatory, but the devil’s always in the details, isn’t it? Turns out, there’s a big fat warning about not using it on your face. Who knew? (Everyone who read the instructions, but not the girl with the big purple circle on her forehead.) I regret NOTHING. This thing works amazingly well, and so what if I have a quarter-sized love bite on my forehead? Big whoop. THE BUG THING IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE ITCHING. Bruises go away; scars from fingernails, not so much. Another word of advice: I bought several of a knock-off brand, thinking, “It’s a plastic barrel with a plunger, how hard could it be to replicate?” I guess fairly hard, because the knock-offs were flimsy and I couldn’t really get a good vacuum with them. I mean, I guess I wouldn’t have been able to suck a ridiculous bruise to the surface of my face with one of the knock-offs, but I probably wouldn’t have been able to suck the itch juice out of my skin, either. I’d much rather have a bruise than a bite. Anyway, this thing is awesome, just don’t use it on your face…or do. I would100% do it again. ... show more

I swear by this device! I get eaten by mosquitoes and using this soon after being bitten drastically reduces the symptoms of itchiness and swelling for me. I also recently got stung by a wasp (for the first time) and used this very soon after. The pain subsided very quickly - I’m sure this would have been worse having not used this. I'm pretty allergic to mosquito bites. They swell up and often leak fluids. This thing works surprisingly very well. It does not suck out fluids like the video suggests. However, it massively reduces both the swelling and the itchiness (I assume it has something to do with blood circulation). I easily forget the mosquito bites are even there. Worst case scenario, I just use it a second time if it still bothers me and the problem goes away pretty quick. ... show more
