This is a solid chair, very sturdy. Assembly is a bit of a challenge and if you use the small Allen-head wrench provided with the screw package it will be difficult. Assembly is best accomplished with better tools. I bought 5 of these chairs and it took me roughly 50 minutes to assemble each of them. The packaging is very good and units are HEAVY! I purchased them as outdoor chairs and decided on the polystyrene composite because of it no-maintenance. I wish the wooden chairs were less maintenance-free but wood also tends to cause splinters, need to be stained at some time as it ages and harder to clean (ie: bird poop). With the exception of 4-screws (set them aside so that you don't accidently use them, those 4 screws will be used for the very last step), all the screws are the same. Use a box cutter to trim away the 4 edges of the screw package as opening the screw package as is will likely result in screws flying everywhere. THERE ARE NO SPARE SCREWS so be aware that you'll need them all for complete assembly. The good news is that the screws are very durable. The holes are pre-drilled in the planks. Once the screws are tightened, the head of the screws should not protrude from the board. The instructions are basic. I built the chairs in my brightly lighted garage. the light helps when matching up the pre-drilled holes. Here are the tools I found very helpful. A flashlight (to help in low light to find & match the holes), a T-handled 4mm Allen-head wrench,{optional: electric-clutch adjusted drill. A drill adapter that will fit a socket 4mm Allen-head}, A box cutter, and a good music channel. That little Allen wrench provided in the kit will add 2-3x the effort and time and you be using "colorful-metaphors" before finishing your FIRST chair! Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a 4mm T-handled Allen wrench, they're cheap and you don't need the drill setup I mentioned earlier. Much of the chair already comes preassembled but I gave the screws that were already in place a snugged-up twist a little more. With the exception of the 2-planks that are assembled in Step 1, do not tighten the screws and leave all the screws loose. The difficult step that was consistent with all 5 chairs that I assembled was the right armrest support plank as it does not line up with the pre-drilled screw holes. I had to use a large C-clamp to align the holes in place. If you don't have a clamp a second person WILL be needed. The 4 different screws that I mentioned earlier are used to secure the armrest boards to the rear of the chair frame. Tighten the 4 screws with the same pressure you used on the other screws. Once you tighten those 4 screws, finish tightening all the other screws and you're done. I hope this helps. The chairs are wonderful and comfortable. They'll last a long maintenance-free time!

I just got through assembling the second of two Lifetime Adirondack Chairs that were delivered earlier this week. The chairs were somewhat easier to put together than I had anticipated. The seat comes fully assembled and the back comes 3/4 assembled. Another reviewer suggested using a 5/32" hex key bit instead of the supplied allen key to install the MANY screws needed to assemble the chairs. That saved a LOT of time. One screw under both arms of each chair wasn't accessible with my screw gun and required use of the allen key--those four screws (on two chairs) took a fair amount of extra time; I'm glad I didn't have to drive dozens of screws that way! I have one important tip; I found that it was better to start each screw with the allen key and to lubricate the threads [soap for the first chair I assembled, candle wax for the second--both worked equally well]. That way I avoided stripping any screw heads, a problem some other reviewers had mentioned. I suspect that the quality of these chairs may have improved since last year. All the holes were properly pre-drilled and the quality of the stainless steel hardware seems quite high. The only problem I had was that the end 1/3rd of a largely decorative bracket on one leg of the second chair I assembled was cracked off. I might have downgraded my rating by one star because of this, but I did not do so because the defect is not structural, Lifetime readily agreed to send me a replacement part when I phoned them, and I was able to epoxy the broken part in place. Since it's under an arm it doesn't really show, although I'll probably replace the broken part when the replacement arrives. IF it doesn't arrive I'll revise my rating downward, but I doubt that it'll be a problem, since another reviewer mentioned Lifetime sending replacement parts. One other change I noticed on these chairs from last year (when I first saw them on sale at Costco, but delayed going to purchase them until they were all gone) was that the ugly "Lifetime" label which (I think) was screwed in place last year) is now a sticker, that can be easily peeled off--something that pleases my wife. The chairs are VERY comfortable--more so than the cheap molded plastic adirondack chairs they're replacing--I think it has something to do with the angle of the back. They also look a lot nicer than my old adirondack chairs. 5/3/13--The replacement for the one broken part came today--Lifetime sent this based only on my phone call--no formal warranty claim with photographs was needed. I'm VERY impressed with their customer service!

I've had this chair for over 5 years. It's been sitting in the hot southern sun, endured hurricane, heavy winds and heavy rains. The chair is still as strong and appealing as when I first purchased it. It doesn't attract bugs or spiders but has had a frog or 2 living under the cushion i purchased for it. Last year I purchased a second one because this one held up so well.

My kids gave us two of these chairs 7 or 8 years ago and they still look almost new in spite of being in the Central Texas elements the entire time, and so I've bought 10 more for a rent house and home in the last 6 months. Short of a hurricane or tornado, they will not blow over or move (they weigh around 40lb). They are also really comfortable with plenty of room on the armrest to set your coffee or drink - we love them. I would give them a 5 star, but installation using their instructions and tools out of the box is ridiculous. Here is what I've learned to significantly speed up assembly, and you should allow 2 hours with this process (3 hours without it), but you can probably do a second chair in about an hour or less. * Use a drill like the one in the photo and the straight Allan wrench they provide in the hardware pack. If you use your own bit, it will likely get chewed up by the time you're done (44 one+ inch screws), so might as well use there's. * Use the headlamp like the one in photo (or if your drill has a pinpoint light, that is even better - I think Dewalt drills do). You need this to see that the holes are lined up before you drill a bolt through the pieces. * The ratchet with the Allen wrench bit on the end saves a lot of time doing final loosening and tightening. Also, there is one screw under the armrest that you can't insert with a drill, but the rachet works well. * If you are assembling by yourself, you need at least one clamp and you might need two depending on the chair - see the photo and more about the step involved later. The vertical bar clamp worked really well - if you use a C-clamp like the one in the picture, it has to be larger than 3" - a 3" c-clamp is not big enough. * Use the electric drill to insert the screws all the way tight, but make sure the torque setting is about 16 or 18 out of 22 (Ryobi) so that you don't over-torque and strip the bolt. Then use the rachet to manually finish loosening or tightening. * The sparse instructions for 1.2 and 1.4 say "Do not completely tighten any screw until instructed". That results in two questions: 1) can we completely tighten the screws in steps 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 because the statement isn't included; 2) how loose should the screws. From trial and error, what works best is to NOT tighten all the screws in steps 1.2 through 1.7 (38 screws). Also, tighten each of them all the way using the drill and then back off about 1 rotation using your rachet or the Allen wrench provided. My worst chair was when the screws were significantly looser than one rotation. I ended up drilling a new pilot hole in one spot. Also, if you only leave the screws in 1.2 and 1.4 loose and tighten the rest in the other steps, then you will have to provide a lot more force with your clamps and will likely have to use two clamps as shown. Loosen the 38 screws in these steps by one rotation from tight, and you won't need to apply much pressure with the clamp to install the final 4 screws in step 1.8. * You need at least one clamp or a second person to align the holes in step 1.8 as show in the picture (the orange clamp is likely the only one you will need). If you don't follow the tips in previous bullet, you may need two clamps. * When all the screws are installed in step 1.8, use the instructions as a guide, starting back at 1.2 to make sure you tighten all 38 screws that are one rotation loose. The rachet (not the drill) works really well for final tightening. Great chairs, but from an engineering standpoint it's ridiculous that the holes don't line up for the final step, requiring you to leave 38 screws loose, apply force to align the last 4, and then do final tightening in the end.

Great product that will stand the test of time. I bought six for around my fire pit outside and haven’t had to lift a finger in terms of maintenance. They’re solid and a little heavy but manageable. The only con was putting the chair together. The first chair took about 45 minutes to build but then I was able to build the rest in about 20 minutes per chair after I knew how it went. However the chairs are less than half the cost of the high end poly-chairs but accomplish the same mission. For me, the savings were worth the hassle of building the chair. I believe I paid $129 a chair, while the high end chairs go for $299 and up. Also, don’t overtighten the screws during assembly or you’ll strip out the hole for the screw. I learned this on the first chair and I remember there was something in the instructions warning about it. Bottom line, you won’t be disappointed with these chairs. Build em and forget em, until it’s time to relax, then just enjoy em.

We bought 4 of these in 2018, and while they were difficult to assemble then, they were sturdy and looked good. We left them for the new owners when we moved and so wanted another set for our new house. Wow, has the quality gone down! At least 2 of the 4 arrived with broken parts, even though the boxes were in good shape, so we thought we would assemble 1 from the parts that weren’t broken. After dealing with the usual difficulty lining up the screw holes, we thought it would help to remove a part, but backing out the screws stripped out the plastic and the screw couldn’t be reinserted. The tool that came with the chair to drive in the screws also broke. We gave up and started a return of all 4 chairs. We didn’t open the other 2 boxes to know if they were broken or not. The plastic was very brittle and I would be concerned that someone heavy could break it if it is that fragile in the box. Do not recommend!

These are great outdoor chairs. I bought two of theseLifetime Adirondack chairs 12 years ago and they sat outside in the weather for about 6 months every year. They got a lot of use and have held up great. Finally one of the slats snapped, so I bought this new chair as a replacement.

Nice chairs. They look good and are sturdy. The chairs are very good quality, especially for the price. After years of assembling toys for the kids for Christmas when they were little, furniture for our houses and the kids when they grew up... These chairs (we purchased 2) were the most difficult and frustrating assembly project I believe I have ever tackled. The instructions were weak at best, the labels on each piece to indicate which piece was missing on 3/4 of the pieces. Trying to line up the bolts to the pre-drilled holes was impossible because of a combination of the lack of taper on the bolts and the fact that the pre-drilled holes were too small meant that lining up the parts was totally blind (I had to get a nail that fit into the pre-drilled holes and use that to try to line up bolts 2 through x on each piece). The most frustrating effort was that things did not align. There were 3 holes in each slat on the back. the bottom 2 holes aligned perfectly, the third one was more than the diameter of the bolt too low. Had to take all out and "angle" the top and bottom to try to get a bite so that they would dig in. When I put the arm rests on the chairs, the back holes were so out of line with the front holes that I had to use 2 pipe clamps to pull the arms into alignment to put in the bolts (glad I have wood working tools, not sure how you would do this without pipe clamps).
