Description

Keep working even in extreme conditions with the DEWALT 3/8 in. x 50 ft. Double Arm Hose Reel. This heavy-duty hose and reel is ideal for industrial, contractor or household use. The spring-powered drive feature automatically retracts the hose quickly and easily and the self-leveling system makes for easy windup. A 12 position ratchet gearing lock lets the hose be pulled to any length. A 4-roller design helps reduce hose wear. The rubber air hose stays flexible even at 40°F below zero yet also takes heat up to 150°F without swelling or bubbling. The hose is kink and oil resistant under pressure and has a 3/8 in. x 4 ft. lead in the air hose for easy compressor connection. Perfect for any air tool and any air compressor that operates at 300 psi or less.

I've been living with a 25 dollar hose reel for ages now and finally splurged to get this retractable reel from dewalt. It is a solid double arm design and looks cool to boot. I'm a big dewalt fan, so this dresses up the garage. Took me about two hours to hang since I had to span ceiling joists with some 2x4's to provide a solid ceiling mount. I went with 4 5" long 3/8" diameter lag bolts to mount the 2x4's to the ceiling two of which do double duty as the mounts for two of the holes in the mounting plate. I used some 2" lag bolts for the other two holes. I figure this will provide a solid mount and I don't have to worry about someone pulling it on top of themselves. I did have to adjust the tension, this was a relatively simple process of depressurizing the system, removing the plastic stop on the end of the hose, pulling out about 2 feet and wrapping the excess hose around the wheel while it was still locked, this provided a bit more tension for the last few feet or so. I had this same model several years ago and it worked OK. It did what it was supposed to, but I could never get the spring adjusted to where it would retract the hose without some manual help. The internal rewind mechanism finally broke and it became a manual hose reel so I took a chance and bought another one. This one appears to be a much better design. It has a swivel connection on the reel for the whip that connects to the compressor. The pawl mechanism that controls the hose release and retraction is on the outside of the hose wheel, which makes it much easier to fix it if it breaks. The retraction mechanism has been beefed up to where you need to hold onto the hose when it's rewinding.....which is a huge improvement. The only con is the hose does have a rubbery odor, but it's not a big deal. As I recall, my old one had the same issue and within a couple of weeks the odor was gone. I have been searching for a decent air hose reel for about a week and decided on this one. It had the features of a hose reel that I demanded. I has a double arm build rather than single as many are. To me this is sign of better quality. I wanted an open reel vs a enclosed one. If the hose would roll up over its self I wanted the ability to be able to straighten it where in a closed reel application I would not. I like the 4 hefty rollers at the hose dispenser which will allow easy pull and return at any angle. This is a very heavy, well built unit. I'm sure I will need a second set of hands to mount this at the ceiling where I intend to hang it. It functions very smoothly. Absolutely no complaints. Yes, the hose is stamped, (Made in China) but is appears to be a very good quality and pliable. Changing hoses if necessary will not be a problem is the need should ever arise. I spent hours reading reviews on 5 different hose reels in this price range and finally settled on this one. I haven't been disappointed, it's a good value for the money. The frame and dual arms are pretty stout. The ratchet mechanism parts are all steel and seem appropriately sized to last a long time. The sides of the hose reel are a little flimsy, but they don't need to be super thick. I mounted mine on the ceiling and re-clocked the roller fairlead at a 45 degree angle. One of my pics shows the fairlead mounting hardware. The fairlead has pre-drilled holes that allow it to be adjusted to perpendicular (from the factory), parallel, or 45 degree angle - relative to the mounting base. My only complaint is my lead-in hose arrived damaged, but I never intended to use it, so no real loss for me. For some reason at the factory they route the lead-in hose between the arm and reel side for shipping (see last pic). One of the four tabs on the side of the reel (for the spring mechanism) dug into the lead-in hose during shipping. It pierced the outer layers of the hose, compromising the integrity of the hose. This could easily have been avoided if they had just thrown the lead-in hose over the 50' hose on the reel for shipping. There's plenty of room for it and it seems like it'd be faster and easier than taking the time to snake it between the arm and the reel. ... show more

Works well. For those negative reviews because it does not retract well, that it is weak. That is easily adjustable. Pull out a couple feet so it locks. Remove the rubber stop on the hose. Pull it out until the tension is as you like it. Lock the hose. Wind the excess hose back through. Reattach the rubber stop to the hose. Only takes a few minutes. I own two of these for sporadic hobby use in my home shop. They're both terrible at retracting the hose. It's been about 3 years I've been putting up with them and I'm about ready to throw them in the trash and upgrade to something that actually works. Every time I pull the hose out I have to help keep the momentum going or it stalls and the hose slips off the reel and tangles up in the side bracket or gets loose and starts lapping over itself.
