I spent hours reading reviews on 5 different hose reels in this price range and finally settled on this one. I haven't been disappointed, it's a good value for the money. The frame and dual arms are pretty stout. The ratchet mechanism parts are all steel and seem appropriately sized to last a long time. The sides of the hose reel are a little flimsy, but they don't need to be super thick. I mounted mine on the ceiling and re-clocked the roller fairlead at a 45 degree angle. One of my pics shows the fairlead mounting hardware. The fairlead has pre-drilled holes that allow it to be adjusted to perpendicular (from the factory), parallel, or 45 degree angle - relative to the mounting base. My only complaint is my lead-in hose arrived damaged, but I never intended to use it, so no real loss for me. For some reason at the factory they route the lead-in hose between the arm and reel side for shipping (see last pic). One of the four tabs on the side of the reel (for the spring mechanism) dug into the lead-in hose during shipping. It pierced the outer layers of the hose, compromising the integrity of the hose. This could easily have been avoided if they had just thrown the lead-in hose over the 50' hose on the reel for shipping. There's plenty of room for it and it seems like it'd be faster and easier than taking the time to snake it between the arm and the reel. ... show more

I sometimes buy the cheaper stuff on Amazon but this time i decided to spend a bit more and get a known brand. I could envision a cheap one lasting until the warranty ran out and i was stuck with something that worked sometimes. this works better than i hoped for. I had this same model several years ago and it worked OK. It did what it was supposed to, but I could never get the spring adjusted to where it would retract the hose without some manual help. The internal rewind mechanism finally broke and it became a manual hose reel so I took a chance and bought another one. This one appears to be a much better design. It has a swivel connection on the reel for the whip that connects to the compressor. The pawl mechanism that controls the hose release and retraction is on the outside of the hose wheel, which makes it much easier to fix it if it breaks. The retraction mechanism has been beefed up to where you need to hold onto the hose when it's rewinding.....which is a huge improvement. The only con is the hose does have a rubbery odor, but it's not a big deal. As I recall, my old one had the same issue and within a couple of weeks the odor was gone. After three years of usage I have found this product to be made with the lowest quality components I have ever used. The hose is continuously rupturing and in need of repair. The locking mechanism is constantly failing and in need of repairs. After contacting customer service I found the rudeness, lack of empathy and complete lack of professionalism was the “cherry-on-top” ... show more
