  • Great reel, so far
Style: Casting Reel
Only had a few months, but seems very well built and heavy duty. Has been my go to reel and so far no issues at all. Would, and will, buy again.

  • Smooth casting and great drag.
Style: Casting Reel
I like this reel allot and even bought a second one because of the value for the money. It casts like a dream, has a great drag, and oversize reel handle for good leverage. The frame and spool size seems to be about optimum for the type of catfishing that I do. My only complaint is that one of the two that I purchased has a nice loud clicker while the other one has a mushy feel to engage and is not as loud but I might be able to mod it to improve it. ... show more

  • Lazer-vs-Rover line cap. Who's right?
Style: Casting Reel
I bought a Kastking rover and as my first round reel, I'm a gear junkie catfisherman who just has to try it all. For most applications I prefer trolling reels for the capacity. So I got the rover and liked it and wanted something similar with a little bit bigger line capacity. Rover 60 is rated for 210yards of 20lb mono the Lazer is rather for 330 I believe without double checking in may be off by a yard or ten. Nonetheless I was dumbfounded when I got the Lazer only to find out just like the rover, catfish sumo, ming yang, and I'm sure many more Lew's bought the same mass produced reel obviously made by some other company and put they're own twist on it "jacked up the line capacity" lowered the drag rating and lowerd the gear ratio as far I can say the drag is much smoother and the retreat and overall function is a lot smoother than the rover but the size is exactly the same. Now I know there are all these different mono brands some of which stating wild size to strength ratio this may be where the vast capacity rat. Is coming from I also know that brands account for MAXIMUM line stretch (mono) when claiming cap. But when I spool mono if i do I damn near have my rod doubled over the whole time just because I'm not only fishing for local channels and even if I'm local I'm aware that a could hook a throphy class blue and I don't want my line cutting into itself. Conclusion if you can live without the thumb bar and want a little bit better guts them go with the lews lazer but aside from a few small differences it's not much different especially bigger than these other reels (rover 60,ming yang 60 ECT) ... show more

  • Updating again! Didn’t survive 2 years!
Style: Casting Reel
Not at all impressed. Nice looking, lightweight reel but has more warts than Id like for $70.00, chief among those being drag issues. On mine, the drag has to be tightened all the way down to be effective at all, which is fine for smaller fish but a real problem with bigger blues, flatheads and stripers. I run 25-lb mono, down to 60-lb leaders to get the kind of line capacity I need, so the results on larger fish are predictable-lots of break-offs. You can’t just horse the big fish out of the water with lighter line and not having a useable drag adjustment causes major issues. Although I am going to stick it out and see if this is a break-in issue, I have seriously cheap reels, like Shakespere Tidewaters and used, 30 year-old Abus that I’ve bought, that I have far more faith in. I was hoping for better value but haven’t gotten it yet. Updated 2/1/21 Still not overly impressed. Good reel for trolling, not for casting. I’ve moved it to a longer, lighter rod and it IS NOT a casting monster, even with 25-lb mono. This reel is plenty strong but it’s never going to be my go-to. Ok for the $$ but my Abu’s and KastKings are safe. Latest update: I dropped my rod and reel into my boat to take a 40-lb blue off the hook and, after getting the fish back into the water, turned around to pick up my rod, only to find that the handle on the Lew’s had broken off on both sides of the screw! My boat isn’t made out of concrete, it’s fiberglass….. No way that handle should have broken off like that! As far as I’m concerned, my Lew’s experiment is over - my Abus, and KastKings are still chugging along and I’ve added 4 Piscifun Chaos baitcasters to my lineup and I’m really fond of them, so far. Bitterly disappointed with the Lew’s but I’m going to leave the rating at 3-stars because it is what it is; a lower-end starter reel that needs to be about 10-15 dollars cheaper to be in the right class. There’s no way I’m going to bother dropping $30 on a replacement handle for this reel, just for the privilege of continuing to be frustrated by it. ... show more

  • Great budget reel
Style: Casting Reel
I’ve owned okuma, abu, kastking, penn,Diawa the list goes on I’ve found these reels to be great value ya they are not an abu but they work and they cast really good hold plenty of line plenty of drag I don’t think many people understand how to set drag 15 pounds is plenty of drag for freshwater they are a great looking reel kinda in the middle of a 6500 and a 7000 abu so if you are in need of a cheap reel that will do the job and not hurt your pockets I say try one out ... show more
