Let's get one thing straight: If this humidifier was safe, I pretty much loved it. The design was nearly perfect. Cleaning is easy. The essential oil functionality seemed on point. However, one factor matters above everything else: Safety. This humidifer, within 8-10 days of ownership, malfunctioned and overheated. The ultrasonic component overheated, boiled the water in the humidifier, and created hot steam that then water-damaged the piece of furniture it was sitting on. That's bad enough, however based on how hot the humidifier and water was when I got to it, I am concerned that there was also a potential fire hazard. Needless to say, I've packed up this humidifier, which I wanted to love, and have returned it. I have never experienced any sort of heat coming from an ultrasonic humidifier, ever, and my counsel to Levoit is to put in some more fail-safes on their humidifiers to make sure they shut off when the ultrasonic component malfunctions. If my humidifier had just shut off, I could have just power cycled it or, at worst, cleaned it, and then continued using it. However, once it damaged my furniture and made me nervous, it had to go back. So, while the concept behind this humidifier is excellent, I can't call it safe, and I don't recommend it. I really wanted to love this stylish mini humidifier... but the love affair has ended badly after 1 month of use. PROS: Easy to fill, super quiet, night mode is great. CONS: Flawed mist tube design leads to a cleaning nightmare. Small tank size. Main issue is a series of design flaws: too many tiny nooks and crannies on fragile parts that are SO difficult to clean, but vitally important to keep clean... and these spots are not mentioned in cleaning instructions. (See photos) The actual water chamber itself is super-easy to fill, and to clean. That part is 5-star design. The base unit (with the ultrasonic transducer disc) is fairly easy to clean, also... but you need to follow the instructions. The big problem is with the very delicate part called the Mist Tube. The manual describes removing it from the tank, then 'Rinse all parts and dry with a cloth.' However, even after light use, many part of the mist tube can develop the telltale 'pink bacterial film' that most humidifiers get. But soaking or rinsing the entire part isn't enough. There is another small part attached to the inside of the mist tub with tiny plastic tabs... the first time I took apart to clean (not described in manual) one of the tabs broke off. (Levoit had great customer service response, and sent me a new mist tube assembly right away.) Once that part is so very carefully removed, you have to then attempt to clean the small grates with a very small brush (Q-tip won't do it.) Additionally, there are areas within the other end of the mist tube itself that prove impossible to reach, even though they can also gather 'pink film'. There is a tiny screw holding an inner gate at the small exit end of the mist tube... clearly not designed to be removed by user... but I had to do so to clean it. Then I had to use another specialty brush to clean inside. Finally, there is also a spot on the underside of the tank, where the top of the mist tube connects, and I just discovered that can also develop slime. That needed brush #3, a long thin one I had on hand for cleaning out straws. That's 3 specialty brushes, and a lot of time. I should mention that I was only running this unit for about 8-10 hours overnight... then I emptied and rinsed all parts every day, and was soaking in vinegar every 3rd day... and the pink film would still develop fairly quickly. I like the general design of the Levoit humidifiers, and some of the other models may be easier to clean. They were attempting something new with this model which is promising, but I believe needs significant re-engineering and testing for better end-user results.     • Difficult to return defective product

Beware: Does not add any scent to the air; Will not sync. I can do nothing but turn this on and off. Amazon will not accept the return- Despite this saying "Prime" and that it is returnable- This was delivered 3 days ago- it does not work but Amazon (the seller) will not let me return this. Update: I was finally notified by email, by Levoit, that I can return the product to them but needed to follow the correct steps which included sending them the original receipt. I ended up keeping it as a humidifier but there is still no scent, it won't sync, and only turns on and off and can't be adjusted in any way. ... show more

Best Humidifier I have bought! 5 star!!! I did a whole day researching (reading blogs and amazon reviews) and this is by far the best one. Easy clean and because I use YL oils I needed something that can handle the powerful essential oil. I bought Vick’s and it pretty much melted the insides. Plus that unit is so hard to clean. I have a newborn and toddler, I don’t need to add more chores to my ‘list to do’. I found it difficult to buy this because it is not in any blogs and no reviews here on amazon but I like the reviews Levoit (other humidifier the company makes) got and I like that it said easy to clean. I like that I can put essential oils with the water. And no I did not get anything free or got paid to write this review. Just happy that there’s companies that strive to make good products and whenever they do I hope they are rewarded. “Levoit ...glad you made this... Thank you for making something user freindly”. Also I really like that nothing was wet around it when I checked in the morning lol. ... show more
