I can't compare smart light switches. I selected Leviton switches simply on the basis of their long, well-known reputation as a switchgear manufacturer. I have four switches: three controlling ceiling fans and one for an outdoor light. I pair these switches with Alexa to provide voice activation through my Amazon Echo devices. The set-up works just fine. It's very convenient to control things without having to get up to flip individual switches around the house or to change on/off light schedules on my old timer. Wiring the switches is also straightforward but if you don't know which end of a screwdriver to pick up or are intimidated by electricity in general or by electrical wiring inside a wall switch box, you should consider having someone else install the switch. The same thing goes for downloading and navigating the Leviton app. Like a lot of things these days, there's not much in the way of an owner's manual (mostly just wiring diagrams). You are directed to visit the Leviton website to view installation, app downloading, and programming instructions and videos. And if you want to pair the switches with another app such Alexa or SmartThings, that will take you into another world that requires yet more familiarity with those particular digital ecosystems. None of this is insurmountable but it's not like plugging in a toaster. Finally, I did get tripped up when trying to program a schedule for my outside light. Even though the app seemed intuitive, I couldn't get the light to turn on and off when I wanted. Installed fairly easy, but be aware it takes up a lot of space in the switch box. In my case I had a smaller standard box crammed with several other connections. I ended up stacking 4 1/4 inch Commercial Electric outlet box extenders for adequate depth. A new 21 cubic inch or deeper box should work well. The last issue was connecting to Alexa. This is simple once you prepare the Leviton mobile app and have the Alexa mobile app where you can add the Leviton skill. It took me a while searching for how to add a "Matter" code to the device and "stumble on" to find out how this direct way is done. ... show more

Started turning on and off after 1 week...thought it was a loose neutral wire, but it still had the problem after double-checking all the components and even updating the firmware. Had to rip it out and replace with original switch

    • If you are using as a 3 way, know what your are doing.

I bought this to replace a Kasa smart swith on an outdoor light because it matched my existing switches better. All in all, I'm satisfied with how it looks and it's functionality. I will say, however, if you are wiring this up as a 3 way it's not for someone that doesn't understand how they work. First and foremost, you need to replace both switches on the circuit. This one and then you need a companion switch (I used the DD0SR-1RM) for the other side. It will not work with a standard 3 way switch like my Kasa did, it's just the way it is designed. Second, you need to be able to read wiring diagrams and understand how your house wiring is set up and probably how to use a voltage detector or multimeter. The main switch needs to be the one first off the circuit (line side) the companion switch needs to be on the load side. You will need to identify with wires are the line wires, the load wires, the traveler, as well as the neutral and ground. If that all sounds like gibberish to you, you will need an electrician to install it. I had to carefully read the wiring diagram to wire it correctly, and it was a bit confusing because the diagram in the DD0SR-1RM actually contradicted the diagram in this one (which is newer). The diagram in this switch is what you want to use, in particular you need to tie the line and the load together at the main switch which is different from mechanical three way switches. Once I had that figured out and wired in setup on the Leviton app was simple to add to my network and it works well. But I'm a pretty advanced DIYer, be ready to spend some time figuring this one out. I will say I also installed another as a single pole and that was a lot easier, but you still need to be able to distinguish which black wire in your box is the line side and which is the load side (which you can do with a voltage detector, the line side is the one that is hot). ... show more
