  • unbelievable
i purchased the camera because i wanted to start photographing my two and a half year old. when it arrived, it felt light, cheap, and was small. but i did not judge "a book by its cover." When I learned the basics of the camera (enough to take pictures), I was blown away by the clarity, detail, and colors of the pictures on playback. Now that I am learning more about the camera (reading the manual in its entirety), I am realizing all the amazing features of it. I now love the "light, cheap, and small" camera, and would not trade it for anything else. I did research before I purchased this, and forget your typical Canons or Nikons; Leica blows them away, both in price and features. The camera's zoom lens is unbelievable. The details you can capture are outstanding with the lens, which is standard, and the shutter speed option is fantastic, so I never miss a precious moment, which are hard to come-by when photographing a two and a half year old. Definitely buy this camera, its awesome. ... show more

  • Leica - Once a great camera company, now going the way of Polaroid.
Here's an example of Leica attempting to compete with all other camera manufacturers and still failing. The Leica V-Lux 3 is nothing more than a re-badged Panasonic DMC-FZ150 like L.Gauthier stated in his review. Obviously, the five star reviewers have no idea that this is a Panasonic and what's funnier is that they rave about the fine Leica image quality without even realizing that Panasonic makes the entire camera. To make matters worse, it costs about $200 more than the Panasonic so please, save yourself the trouble and get the Panasonic. Leica was a great company back in the 70's and 80's but they failed to keep up with technology resulting in inferior camera products costing over $2000. The result: Leica sells re-badged camera's to help limit their yearly profit losses. ... show more

  • Leica or Panasonic?
This camera is a nice product. After investigation, it appears that the V-LUX 3 is a clone of the Panasonic DMC-FZ150. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-FZ150K-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B005HQ50SO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1340624071&sr=1-1&keywords=fz150 Panasonic uses Leica lenses for its camera, Leica uses Panasonic camera for its bridges. Thus the price may seems higher than required. Leica package includes additionnal software anyway. ... show more

  • It feels cheap
When you touch it,you will feel it is cheap. But it is Leica! So it doesn't matter! And you must buy a memory card.

  • Great camera, but...
This Leica is a great camera. The zoom is incredible, the basic operations are simple (most of them -- I'll get to that in a moment), the photos are wonderful, the battery holds a charge for a long time. But... ... unlike EVERY other digital camera I have ever owned, the process of setting up the mode for the built-in flash is completely nonintuitive. I have looked at the manual a dozen times, played around with the on-screen menus repeatedly... and I STILL cannot figure out how to get to the flash mode settings. It's simply ridiculous on a camera this expensive. ... show more

  • Liking-the-Leica
Having owned 3 versions by Lumix, the snob in me was eager to be an actual Leica owner. I bought the V-Lux 3 and gave my Lumix FZ150 to my girlfriend. Now we are shooting photos together and swapping notes. Function is identical, so until we get into the software part, I cannot tell the difference. But I like the reaction from those who know the Leica name and even those who stumble over the pronunciation and never heard of it. Initially, there was a problem with display in that photos would not appear in the LED screen after they had been snapped. Situation seems to have resolved itself. I still do not know if there is something amiss in the circuitry. As of now, this is working fine and I love the camera which is perfect for a traveler like me who would miss countless pictures if I had to switch lenses constantly. Also, I wander enough dicey territory that i wouldn't want the risk of losing thousands of dollars of equipment. ... show more

  • Buy the Panasonic FZ150 Version and Save BIG!
This camera is identical to the Panasonic FZ150K, also sold on Amazon. The only difference is the almost double the price and some minor included software. Buy theanasonic then, if you really want it, buy the software separately. I purchased the FZ150K from Amazon. Great camera at half the price of this Leica. • FAVORITE CAMERA
My favorite camera of all time.....and I have had many. I wanted something that would come close photo quality and options of an SLR without the hassle of lens changing and dragging a camera bag for extra lenses just to get the 'great' shot. This has done it for me. I also take high quality video with it. My Grandson plays hockey at a fairly high level (fast paced) and also for his High School Team. Lighting changes from rink to rink and I have been able to take really good video of the fast paced games. Action shots such as in motion slap shots also come out good. You have to play with the settings, but that is what you have to do wth an SLR, this is like having an SLR without the extra baggage. Bigger than a pocket camera but I get around that by using my lens cap and carrying a bit larger purse than needed. Camera pops in and everybody is not aware that Grandma has the phone in tow. ... show more
