Description

The high level of optical and mechanical performance of Leica 10x25 Ultravid BR binocular is the result of specially designed eyepieces. The construction guarantees a sharp view without color fringing or aberration from edge to edge. The diopter is adjusted with the touch of a button. Thanks to the double hinge, they can be easily folded and stored. Leica uses an aluminium body on the Ultravid BCR 10x25. This helps to keep the weight down and, along with the rubberized coating, makes the it comfortable to hold. In addition, the full rubber-armour makes the Leica Ultravid BR very resistant and reliable in any situation. Leica 25 Ultravid BR compact binoculars with 10x magnification are brighter, sharper and more rugged than many other glasses with this lens diameter. Brilliant, contrastrich, high resolution images as well as outstanding stray-light suppression set this optical model apart in their class. Main features: Exit pupil: 2.5 mm Twilight factor: 15.8 Field of view at 1,000 yds/m: 273 ft/90 m Eye-relief: 15 mm Eyepieces for eyeglass wearers: yes Waterproof up to 16.5 ft/5 m

  • Excellent compact binocular
Size: 8x20
We purchased a Leica Ultravid BR 8x20 binocular to take on a recent visit to Australia, which included two weeks of casual birding. In this trial, the binocular proved to be an excellent choice for the trip, as a result of its robust construction, light weight, precise and easy focusing, and impressive light gathering performance across a wide range of light conditions. We were so impressed that we plan to purchase another. ... show more

  • Excellent Optics, Questionable Durability, Horrible Warranty Service
$800 dollars for compact binoculars is pretty pricey, at least to me. I therefore had high expectations for these. Overall, I've been pretty happy with the quality of the lenses. I'm still not convinced it's worth the premium over similar less expensive binoculars from mid grade competitors, but no doubt these are nice. I can attest that they are not that durable though. My wife unfortunately dropped these from about 3 feet high and it misaligned the tubes so you see double when you look through them. No big deal though, these come with a lifetime warranty, and an additional 5 year warranty against accidental damage like this. I guess that's one of the perks you get for paying this kind of price premium. I sent these in to Leica and waited, waited some more, and continued to wait. Finally I got a bill in the mail for $100 for the repair. It took 3 phone calls and a very extended hold time to even get a hold of someone who could give me a status on my repair and sort out the mistake of sending me a bill for what should be covered by the "accidental damage warranty". They asked for copies of my receipt and warranty card to verify that the product is indeed still under warranty. I had included copies of all of that in the box I mailed them, but apparently they paid no attention to any of the enclosed documentation I sent. So anyway I emailed over another set of copies to them since the lost what I had originally sent. After receiving the emailed documentation, I was told the binoculars would ship back to me in 5 days. At this point it had been 4 weeks since I mailed in the binoculars. It also is worth mentioning that it took 3 phone calls and a very extended hold time to even get a hold of someone who could give me a status on my order. After waiting another 3 weeks, the binoculars have not showed up. I called and left a voicemail for the person who handles repairs status and asked what's going on. Nobody called back as usual. I called again and talked to a live person who explained that my repair is scheduled to ship out in about 2 MONTHS. Seriously? Is this a joke? I explained that I had already waited two months and was told this would ship back to me weeks ago. A 4 month turn around for warranty repair is insane. The rep said he'd check on this and give me a call back tomorrow. I'm betting nobody will call back based on prior interactions. We'll see. So bottom line, Leica has the most abysmal warranty service I've ever dealt with. It's below that of most any other china crap optics manufacturer. This is what you get for paying top dollar for a product with a supposed lifetime warranty. Never again, I'll go with another brand next time. Update 4/30/14: They did call back and finally got things squared away. The bottom line is Leica's warranty service sucks. You certainly don't get what you pay for in that regard. Now that they work again, I really do like these binoculars though. The durability is suspect though considering how they got misaligned from a very small fall. ... show more

  • Not really for bird-watching.
Size: 8x20
I finally got them adjusted right, and...I couldn't find many birds I was seeing with my naked eye. I tried for quite a while, but failed almost all of the time. The field of view is just too small for bird-watching. They are well made, the optics are good. I really wanted a compact, light binocular, and I appreciate that Leica tried. However I am sticking with my premium 8x25 binocular from another brand that has a much wider field of view. They are heavier, but I can see birds with them. I hate writing a bad review, but I think it is maybe going to help out someone else. ... show more

  • Best mini binocular you can buy
Size: 8x20
These are simply the best mini binocular available when considering the most important features (excluding cost). I am a retired wildlife biologist and have owned Swarovski, Ziess, Leica, Nikon, Milolta, and numerous cheaper brands of optics equipment. For convenient travel size, bright and clear focus, solid and durable with high quality construction, very close focus and good light gathering quality, these waterproof mini binoculars are my top choice for travel or nature hikes. Don't waste your money on disappointing cheap binoculars. If you appreciate quality over price, and use and carry binoculars frequently, these are the best you can get. ... show more

  • Excellent -- It's worth it.
Size: 8x20
I need a pair of bins that stay in my car, that I can take on a casual walk, or take with a big lens (500-600mm) camera for spotting. These tiny 8x20 are perfect. The image quality is excellent. I had some Nikon 10x25 but it was very difficult to get the eyes to align and I often got double image. These Leica's are very easy to get aligned and they focus very easily. The push-button diopter adjustment is great! No accidental changes. I picked these over the 10x25 because my main pair are 10x and these 8x have better close focus. They see about 8.5" at minimum distance. Your center of view is about 4", so a single flower looks good. The 10x see about 11.5" at minimum distance. It's not as good as the Trinovid HD (at 4.6" FoV minimum distance), but those are giant compared to these guys. I don't mind having no front lens caps -- I never use them anyway. But I'm not going through wind blown sand or extreme dust. The case is easy to use and slide the bins in/out. It's a bit bulkier than some cases, but small nonetheless. I appreciate that there's no velcro. ... show more

  • Probably the best compact 10x25 binoculars - you (have to) pay premium to get almost flawless higher quality
Size: 10x25
Probably the best compact 10x25 binoculars - but with some compromises Tested this model against the trinovid 10x25 and Swarosvki CL 10x25 - dismissing the trinovids was easy, has it was very obvious right away they did have a lower sharpness and subdued color. They were lighter and felt a bit flimsy too. The Swarovski, was a different story - very sharp, nice contrast, but they are 4 ounces heavier, a bit thicker and I dislike the diopter adjustment wheel. OTOH, the eye cups are better designed and found the pouch, raincover and strap a better deal than with the leica. So why the Leica Ultravid? weight, overall size, and better controls. As far as optics, I barely can tell the difference. To my eyes, the Ultravids seem to have a more pleasant blur. They supply an eyecup cover set, which the swaros don't. Both models don't come with front lens covers The Leica strap is pretty flimsy, and not sure how well it held in the field, so likely will have to be upgraded. Wish they would offer lens covers. Overall outstanding optics and craftsmanship - you (have to) pay premium to get almost flawless higher quality ... show more
