This 25” insert is better than I ever imagined. The price is awesome and it replaces our R. H. Peterson gas set (Roles Royce) vent-free. It was packaged extremely well and so easy to set up. The media could not be loaded. Full disclaimer...I grew up with a wood-burning fireplace. The definition of the good life is sitting in front of a warm, cozy fire. But I've moved into a "new" older home and plan to rent it out when I move on. The chimney and gas are both capped off. I had to choose between spending $2k to fix it and hope my future renter doesn't burn it down and looking for an alternative. I've read hundreds of reviews on dozens of products. Chose this because it was made in America and seemed to check most of my boxes. This is PERFECT! Remember I've been spoiled, so my bar is pretty high. The look is fairly realistic. I tried it without the plastic backdrop and like it better with the backdrop for a more dispersed look. The biggest disappointment was the terrible sound. I also took a wild guess and ordered a pair of speakers on Amazon (Gikfun 4Ohm 5W Full Range Audio Speaker Stereo Woofer Loudspeaker for Arduino Replacement (Pack of 2pcs) EK1949) for $12. It took about thirty minutes and a phillips screwdriver. It even fit right inside the casing for the original speaker. Another disclaimer...I left my soldering iron 2000 miles away, so I literally just taped these wires in place. This set is literally never moving, so I'm OK with that risk. LOVE the upgrade! Note to the manufacturer...everyone hates those crumby speakers. Spend an extra four dollars and put a better one in, instead. ... show more

Updated: We have used this almost every day since receiving it. It is one of the best purchases we have made for our home. I bought this hoping it would look like the pictures and videos but expecting to be disappointed. But it looks exactly like you see on these reviews. The plastic panel behind is visible unless you have a fire screen and doors. That panel does improve the flame effect. The sound is a little unrealistic. The media could not be loaded. I paid full price for this insert, and I would do it again. My new office came with a lovely gas fireplace that we gutted. I then had an electrician install an outlet below it so that I wouldn't have to worry about cables sticking out. My office decor is a French Provincial, and after searching through ALOT of electric insert options I chose the white logs because not only do they really work in the space, they look really lovely when they are off. Most inserts are mainly black, and would disappear in my dark fireplace. I elected not to use the plastic insert, because it's very obvious and the window light reflected off of it. My favorite setting on this insert is highest flame, lowest sound. I agree with other reviews that the high setting on the sound sounds a bit like bacon frying. The low setting gives you the gentle ambiance without being distracting. I have not had a chance to figure out or test the heat yet, but as this is in my office chances are we will use it very little. The orange is very orange, and I kind of wish it was more of a yellow/orange, but it looks wonderful just the same. I can't wait till it gets darker during office hours in the winter; this will really look lovely. I would absolutely buy this again. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. We’ve been in our home for over 6 years & have never used our gas fireplace setup because it wasn’t vented. We had considered getting an electric insert, but the most realistic are way out of our budget. I happen to come across this product through a Pinterest add & we decided that we would give it a go. Honestly, I could sit and watch it for hours. The ambience it brings to our living room is so beautiful and cozy. I couldn’t be happier. We didn’t install the reflective backing & don’t find that it’s needed in our specific fireplace. This was in an effort to keep it as realistic as possible. We also ordered a bag of lava rock to add around the base, this really helped it come to life! From a technical standpoint, the speaker could definitely be better, but I love the unit so much that it doesn’t really matter to me. It may matter more to others. I have no thoughts on the heater, as we will never use this feature. ... show more
