As foam can take as long as 1,000 years to completely decompose, I was looking for a biodegradable mattress made of natural materials, without chemicals or wool (to which I am allergic). I was delighted to find this kapok-filled pad, having heard of kapok as a common pillow filling in the U.S. in the first half of the 20th century. I liked the color choices, and when my mattress arrived, it was as pictured. I prefer firmness, and expected it from the reviews, but it's a little firmer than I thought. I still haven't quite decided how I feel about that. The firmness gives enough that you don't get that butt-on-the-hard-floor feeling of a deflated foam pad, and I have not had trouble sleeping on it, but I do miss the resiliency of foam a little. Also, though the joined-tubes surface is fine for my torso, my heels have a hard time finding a supported position if I'm lying on my back. Not a big deal, but different from a flat surface. Somewhat unexpectedly, my standard twin mattress is lengthening after a month of sleeping on it, which may be something to consider for those debating whether to order an XL twin. Note that my weight is considerable, so possibly it wouldn't stretch as much with a lighter sleeper. I have it on a platform of wooden slats which can expand, but if it was a tight fit on a platform with headboard and footboard, there could eventually be some buckling up as it stretched beyond the space, or hanging off the end in the absence of a footboard. Breathability seems good, though it's a little early in the year to assess how it will be in really hot weather. However, it's already a substantial improvement over the pleather-covered trifold foam mattress it is replacing, which could get quite damp. So far, I have not detected any moisture, even on warm nights. I let it air every morning, and flip it so both sides air, before I roll it up. It is very lightweight and easy to carry when rolled up. I cover with a sheet if I am sleeping in shorts and/or short sleeves. I don't have twin sheets so I've been using a full-sized flat sheet, which works OK, but I'm hoping a fitted twin sheet will fit well enough to be quicker to put on and take off. Given the stretching, I am wondering about the longevity of the mattress. The tubes except at the very ends have spread and flattened out a little, though they don't seem to be loosing height compared to the tubes that retain their original compactness. One effect of this is that the surface is closer to flat, since the tubes surfaces are less rounded. With foam, I have had the problem that it compresses in the middle. So far I haven't seen that with this mattress, but I'll be watching out to see how it compares. ... show more

I will update this in time to let everyone know about durability! 🙏🏻 Just got this today- my first impression is that it is very nice! For anyone wanting a very firm mattress, I’ve added a video to show the firmness- even showing how much it will compress down on the very edges when squeezing hard. As you can see this is pretty firm! ❤️ When laying on it I do not feel like I am sinking in at all which is what I wanted. 🙂 While I do have a very soft full size bed I never sleep in it. I have been sleeping on the hard wood floor for the last 3 years- and I love it! It works like acupressure and sleeping that way has truly healed so much in my body- knots in both fascia and my muscles have been worked out (I also use a buckwheat meditation cushion as my pillow so my neck can be in perfect alignment & I just refill with more buckwheat when it compresses down). 🙏🏻 Even though I love sleeping on the floor, for some reason I decided I wanted a floor mattress to be fancier. I searched everywhere for a 100% cotton floor mattress that was firm and couldn’t find it unless I bought a very expensive and much too thick futon mattress- unless I got memory foam and other synthetic man-made junk. ❤️ Thankfully I found this very natural Thai massage mattress. I will be able to let you know about its durability in a couple months time because- for years now I do wake up quite often and roll around a lot in my sleep. *A LOT!* Therefore I will come back and update this to let everyone know if the mattress fabric and stuffing really holds up over time! 🙏🏻 Lastly, the color of green is beautiful! I LOVE this thing. I've been sleeping on it for about a month now. It's firm, for people that want a firm mattress, and it gives unbelievable support. The kapok stuffing seems dense and supportive but also soft and comfortable (kind of like one of those stress balls that you squish in your hand, but less squishy). I've never experienced any stuffing like this before and I'm hooked. The mattress is very versatile, as it can be partly rolled up and used as a chair/loveseat/lounge. My cats love it too. To keep it in good shape, you need to knead and fluff it like you would a pillow. This process is actually pleasurable and relaxing, so I don't mind that at all. If you always lay in the middle and never refluff the stuffing, then the stuffing will gradually shift to the edges, etc., but the stuffing is so dense that it doesn't shift that much. Just a little kneading/fluffing every day will keep it in good shape. Even though the bedroll cannot be machine washed, it can be kept clean. The unthinkable has already happened, about two weeks after I got this, my cat peed on it. I used Martha Stewart's odor-neutralizing spray, baking soda, white vinegar, and a steam cleaner to spot-clean it. Laid it out in the direct sun to dry. It seems fine! So that was the ultimate test, now I know I'll have this thing for a long time and will probably buy another one someday. I've recommended this mattress to everyone I know. ... show more

Surprisingly comfortable. We didn’t want to get another spring mattress after our old one wore out. We both were miserable and hurting from it. So, we tried sleeping in the floor. Which was actually better, but I needed something in between, so I put down our 4”topper on the ground and slept on that. It was okay, but not quite right. So my boyfriend said we should try this style of mat. We actually loved it. I sleep like I haven’t slept in years! Deeper sleep, and don’t wake up nearly as much, or sore in the morning. I eventually put this on top of the topper, and now it is perfect, since I don’t want to lay directly on the floor. My boyfriend is fine either way. As far as quality, it seems well made and firm. Size was accurate for the queen we ordered. Height was accurate, as well. Some people mention the seam coming apart. Well, it hasn't yet, but if it does down the road, I’ll just break out my needle and thread. Sure, it should be made right to begin with, but I’ll update if it actually happens. It also came packaged well, and had no foul odors, or any dust coming out. It was also very nice to look at in person. Better than the picture. So far so good! ... show more

I needed to find another temporary mattress to replace my son's air mattress that leaked. He's epileptic and has become very chronically sensitive to VOC. I bought a new air mattress and in the shirt time it took to inflate, it almost gave him a seizure. Next we tried a CordaRoy that converts to a mattress. They claim to be low toxicity, but again there was a strong chemical odor. This cotton pad is stuffed with natural fiber that comes from the kapok tree. There was only a slight odor but it didn't cause any reaction. It sure if the odor is from kapok fiber or fabric dye, but in any case it aired away quickly and hasn't caused any reactions. If you're buying it to sleep on, it's comfortable enough if you're comfortable lying on very firm surfaces. It does provide enough cushioning for a light, slender person to not get painful pressure points. It would be similar to using a thick sleeping bag on the floor, but more supportive. If you need more cushioning than that, I recommend using a mattress topper under it. Note that the sizes are not standard bed sizes. The Large size is closest to twin, but a few inches wider and longer. ... show more

I didn't see many reviews on this from full time floor sleepers, anywhere. I weight about 180 lbs and sleep on my side. I did a bit of research, and these things are amazing. Going from sleeping on a couple of blankets, mostly for insulation (hard wood floors), to this is amazing. It takes up much less space than even a folding Japanese futon, and barely takes up more space than my previous set up. This feels like I'm sleeping on air, and I have yet to break it in. 3 month update: I'm still very pleased with this mattress. It has flattened out a bit which is expected, but it's still very comfortable. I slide things thing around on my wood floors a bit here and there, and it shows no signs of ware on the fabric. I do put it outside, or use other methods to try to air it out at least once a month, if not more, but there has been zero issues with odor. I do use a sheet and a blanket on top of it, I just roll them up with it in the morning. I'll try to review again once it gets cold out. ... show more

I LOVE how the roll design seems to fit my curves in all the right places. Even my ankles feel supported. Plus it is long enough to roll the top down as a pillow, even for my 6 foot husband. Each little roll by itself is soft, and I can squish them. As a whole, it is a firm mattress for sure. My back (scoliosis) doesn't feel "tired" after I wake up on this matress. A big plus to me. My husband says it is a little too firm for him so for now, I use it on top of my other mattress, so I can't say how it would be every night on the floor, but for the last week and a half I have had only one tossy-turny night from back pain on this mattress, and that was after digging a very large hole in my yard. I feel the mattress will be easy to hang out to air out if needed, or even spot clean and line dry when necessary. It is a smooth, soft material.     • I love it, and I can't imagine not doing it
I've been sleeping on the floor for over two years. I love it, and I can't imagine not doing it. However, we have carpeted floors, and I was worried I would eventually cause uneven wear or issues with mold. I didn't want a typical mattress with creepy flame retardants, and futons that I've had in the past were so heavy, that I dreaded flipping the mattress and changing the cover when I'd wash the linens. I started thinking about making a thin mattress that I could roll up out of the way and was looking online for materials and ideas, when I found these. I ordered two of them, and I've been sleeping on them for a little over four months now. A single thickness is perfectly comfortable for me, but I've also stacked them up to try out the double thickness, which is a bit softer. I tuck a cotton blanket over them to protect the covers and vacuum under them once a week when I wash the the blanket and other linens. Today, I started fixing the "bed" frame sections of our old, broken queen-sized futon couch, so the mattresses will be raised about 3" off of the floor. I tossed the matresses over the railing to air out in the sun, then beat them with a tennis racket before bringing them back in, and it was no big deal- they only weigh 12 pounds each. I'm very happy with the result and am hopeful that these mattresses will be a viable long-term solution. I don't know how long these will hold up to nightly use, but at less than $250 for a set, I could afford to replace them much more often than the recommended 5-10 years for a typical mattress, if needed. As a bonus, instead of sending the old mattresses to a landfill, I'll be able to take them apart and compost or repurpose the materials. ... show more
