When I first received this mattress I would have rated it at five stars, even after the first 100 days, which is the length of the happiness guaranteed or your money back policy. I have now had the mattress for just under one year. For the last few months though, I’ve been waking up with a sore back and have noticed a sag in the mattress. It’s actually a softening of the memory foam. Before I get in bed it looks perfectly flat, but as soon as I lay down, there is a noticeable sag. This point is important as a visible sag before laying down would qualify as a warranty covered issue. A ‘softening’ of the memory foam does not. For those interested, foam softening is the first line listed in the ‘not covered’ section of the warranty. According to Leesa, this is a natural part of the breaking in process. I’m a 190 lb man, and when I get in my side of the bed at night I quickly wind up in the valley of this ‘softened’ section of the mattress. I’ve rotated the mattress and expect I’ll be comfortable for another 9 months. My wife’s legs will now rest where my upper body was, so she shouldn’t notice the sag on her side. I’ll be back on the market for a new mattress by this time next year. I’m terribly disappointed. This mattress has the perfect firmness when you first purchase it, but be prepared to sleep in a curved valley of softness within a year. ... show more

    • Offgassed for weeks, sleeps hot, not cooling at all

When the Leesa first arrived, I was shocked at how long it off-gassed. I kept thinking "ok, this'll be the last day it smells like chemicals"... but that lasted for about three weeks. Eventually, the off-gassing went away (probably with a bunch of brain cells, too). I was getting by, but then the summer came. This is the least breathable mattress I've ever slept on -- my college dorm mattress was better. In mere moments, it manages to heat up to body temperature, and it never cools down again. It'll stay hot all night -- even in a fully air conditioned room. Maybe if you're a super cold sleeper you'll like this... but I wish that I had taken advantage of the 100 day return policy.     • Don’t buy! Extremely soft, like sleeping on a marshmallow

Bought this twin mattress for my daughter after reading positive reviews on Amazon and wirecutter. We knew after 5 minutes that it was a mistake. It couldn’t even lay on it with my daughter to read her a book without falling off because it’s so soft. It was terrible on my back. She liked it (she’s 4 1/2) but I can’t see anyone who weighs more than 50 lbs liking this mattress. Fortunately Amazon issued a full return which is why I have it 2 stars instead of 1. Apparently they have a “one return of a mattress in a lifetime” policy for good-standing customers. However, I’ve not been able to get either Amazon or the company, Leesa, to pick up the mattress for donation for another 2 months, so I have a mattress taking up space in my hallway. Ive spent way to long on the phone trying to coordinate getting rid of this and I’m kicking myself for not just going to an old fashioned mattress store. All of these new companies that offer “free returns” after trying out a foam mattress at home don’t mention the part about actually making the return happen. It’s been a huge headache and my most regrettable amazon purchase to date. ... show more

    • Constant headaches and a noxious scent

I don’t enjoy this bed. I really wanted to, I’m not high needs when it comes to beds. I know this is carried by West Elm. “Jesus, if it’s good enough for those folks it’s good enough for me!” But it stinks. Actually stinks. I had headaches for weeks. It smells like chemicals. I talked to the company and they said it would fade. It had faded but months later it still smells and my head swims when I lay down on it. I’ve never known myself to be chemically sensitive. I have admittedly used inscense in the past. I don’t complain about the new paint smell when I move into a new place. But this bed stinks. I’m so disappointed. I have given it two stars because my partner doesn’t mind the bed and doesn’t notice the chemical odor. But she smoked for 15 years and only quite the last few, can’t gelp but wonder if her nose forever changed. Other notes about the bed - It sleeps hot. I don’t find it comfortable or uncomfortable but imagine it would suit heavier set folks who would sink and enjoy some cushion on the mattress which feels quite firm to be at 120lbs. No edge support the bed just collapses at the sides. It’s highly attractive the ways it’s been wrapped up in some sort of cover. ... show more

    • Great mattress, but DON'T skimp on the right pillows!

Have been sleeping on my mattress for about a month now. It continues to get softer, which is great, because it is the best of both worlds - firm support, plus an indescribable plushness that leaves you feeling cradled and comfy. I'm historically a side/stomach sleeper, though I have been trying to transition to sleeping on my back. My ONLY complaint about this mattress is that I was not prepared pillow wise. I have been having lots of neck pain associated with sleeping on this mattress with pillows made for a traditional spring mattress - all are either too thick or too thin and have been throwing me out of whack. I just ordered two king size Leesa pillows to match, and am hoping this solves the issue. I'd recommend to Leesa that they include, gift, and/or recommend memory foam pillows for every new memory foam mattress customer. I bet this would prevent plenty of returns from customers who've had similar issues as I have with neck pain from improper pillows, but who don't realize that the pillow is the issue, not the mattress. The only reason I know it's the pillows is because my back pain has completely gone away, replaced by a stiff neck every morning. Here's hoping my Leesa pillows solve that problem.
