This model feels lightweight and is easy to open with an audible click. I replaced my older Surge with this unit and it seems on par quality wise but not so much price wise, they have gone up significantly. Regardless of the cost, it’s a necessary part of my work wear that I need multiple times daily. My Surge suffered a broken needle nose point and was sent in for replacement jaws since it has a lifetime warranty (now reduced to 20 years I’ve noticed.) I guess time will tell about wear and quality but so far it’s been a month and it’s been a solid companion at work.

I can't speak for all the leatherman multi tools but this one is great! I've only used this one and the wingman. I got this one because it seemed like an evolved version of the wingman. I love this one because of the ease of opening the tools. The pliers, knife and scissors can all be opened with just one hand. Which is good because I'm normally already holding what I'm working on when I pull it out of my pocket. All the other tools open from the outside so you don't have to open the pliers to get to those. Also these other tools are easily accessible. If you just push down on the bottom of the handle they pop out. Choose the one you want and push the others back into place. All the tools lock too. No line lock with these. Seems like a proprietary locking device. If you can't figure it out, send it back, lol. Love it.

The P2 gets some hate within the leatherman community, but it's a great tool. I love it's simplicity and it works well for the few things I need it for during the week. It fits well in the pocket without being too heavy/bulky and the free series just looks so nice with that dimpled looking design on the handles. Great choice for a basic, easy one handed use multitool.

The 4 different sizes of flathead and the universal phillips head are perfect for low voltage and deenergized electrical work. I use all 4 on a daily basis. The low-profile pliers are unique, I've never seen them come to such a fine point on any other multitool and they feel specifically tailored to the work I do. The slight gap at the base of the wire cutters makes an amazing stripper for small wires, and the scissors and knife make up for what the wire cutters can't accomplish in stripping. My only complaints would be the serration of the blade(just personal preference) and the fact that the tool conducts electricity(really my fault, I get way too friendly with energized equipment). This makes up 95% of my toolset and if it ever gets too filthy with bilge water and CHT I'll just buy another.

I have the Free P4 as well but i carry the P2 most of the time. It's lighter than the P4 and suits all the needs of an edc. The one hand open, magnetic lock, is very intuitive. All the tools are accessible easily with one hand. I love the design. Leatherman hired the right people to design and make this thing! 😊 I highly recommend this one. If you're not sure if the P4 or P2 is better, I'd choose the P2 cause i have no need of a saw and a secondary blade; they just add weight in my pocket (the P4 would be better for a camper).

Really nice quality tool. Not too heavy, and the pliers are perfect. They really grab with a bite, and the wire cutters have replaceable blades. You get what you pay for, and you will appreciate the quality when you use this tool!

I've been watching videos of this knife for months waiting for it to come out. Out of the whole FREE line, the P2 stood out as the one that could be my EDC without going overboard. The additional knife and saw with the P4 were not something I would use. And the fact that this is a combo blade is perfect. Out of the box, even the presentation was amazing. Like a major tech company showing off what you just bought. The first time I opened up the pliers, I laughed because I've never felt a tool like this since I was a kid with a cheap butterfly knife. Not to say it felt cheap, but that it was fun, made sense, and easy to use in one hand. I hope the photos add a little clarity about the sheath which was something I have not seen photos of yet. One note is that if you plan on using it, you will want to remove the clip since it doesn't fit with the snap. Also, the clip is a BEAST. Seems strong enough for a cordless drill. It's removable but cannot be put on the opposite side. In terms of function and tools, you know the rest! Plenty of videos out there but I will vouch for this being awesome. It feels great. The haptic feedback is real and adds to the experience. Overall, I'm impressed and I'll update after I get some hours of use with it.
