Description

Oxygenating your wort prior to pitching the yeast is a vital step in the brewing process that many brewers do not pay much attention to. Ideally your wort would have an oxygen level of 8 ppm (parts per million) however most brewers only achieve 2.5 4.5 ppm without using an aeration system. Using this wort aeration system you can easily achieve nearly double the oxygenation as you would by shaking or stirring your fermenter! using a wort aeration system will not only be far more safe than shaking your carboy around but will also contribute to lower final gravities, quicker fermentation, and a cleaner fermentation. Cleaning your aeration system is as easy as putting your air tubing and oxygen diffusion stone in your sanitized solution. Diffusion stones may also be cleaned by placing in boiling water or by briefly baking it in the oven. Be sure to never handle the diffusion stone with your bare hands as natural skin oils can clog the stone's pores. Carboy shown for illustrative purposes, does not come with carboy.

  • Super Quiet
Worked first time right out of the box. No issues. I was surprised how quiet it was. I was expecting more noise.

  • No more shaking carboys
I was extremely tired of trying to oxegenate my home brew wort by shaking, rolling, and making a mess only to get sub par results. I tried this last weekend after brewing up a fresh batch. I put it in and went to watch TV instead of working out trying to shake a five gallon bucket. 20 minutes later the lid was popping off cause there was so much oxygen in the wort. Pitched my yeast and bam... 12 hours later it was fermenting like crazy! Awesome addition to my home brew equipment. ... show more

  • Works as advertised
Started an apple cider just to test this out. Let it aerate for about 35 minutes before pitching the yeast, and three hours later the brew is aggressively fermenting. It appears to have worked brilliantly, though I will need to make more brews to confirm this. Did come with some kinks in the line, but it was probably from transit and does not appear to be hampering the system in any major fashion. ... show more

  • Works
It works. I soaked the stone in an iodiphor solution for a while before using, because that's what we always did with aeration stones for fish tanks. Also don't dip the filter in any liquid, my helper did that and then the filter wouldn't pass any air. Fortunately I had a couple spares.

  • Good price and good product.
Works great! It a good price without having the trouble of figuring out how to make one out of fish tanks pumps, filters, and tubing. 30 min of letting this little guy go after pitching and plenty of foam has built up and I have a great active fermentation early on.

  • Worked better than expected! UPDATE! It''s Junk!
I've read a lot of negative reviews about this product but decided that the low cost was worth giving it a try. Yesterday, I made a 1-gallon batch of Blueberry Mead and used the oxygenation pump instead of my usual method of constant stirring/shaking of the fermentation bucket/carboy. I was amazed at how quickly this pump infused the must with oxygen! Had I put the must into a carboy, it would likely have bubbled out the top! The pump is quiet enough but tends to vibrate heavily; I solved this by putting it on a folded dish towel. IMPORTANT: before you place the stone in your must, make sure the unit is ON and blowing air, to avoid clogging stone. I'll be using this often enough to amend my review if necessary. So far I am impressed! 12/10/22: Sorry I wrote such a positive review! I made another two batches of mead before the thing simply stopped working. The output of oxygen decreased gradually until the unit stopped working altogether. I tried every suggestion I read on the internet to clean it and get it going again, but to no avail. Not worth it. ... show more

  • Great price, but may require fixing.
Unfortunately, I used this on a batch of wort without testing it first. The bubbling seemed really anemic. When I tested it in a clear glass in water, sure enough, barely any bubbling. I hope the yeast got enough oxygen. Fortunately, I read another review where someone disassembled the pump and slightly bent the rocker arm with the magnet back. Tested it out, and night and day difference - lots of bubbles! I think this is a great deal, but seems highly likely any given unit will need to be repaired to work properly, so I only gave it 3 stars. ... show more

  • Works great, but with a few extra steps
The first time I used it I was not happy with the results. But after reading some reviews I decided to try a few things. I tried the check valves that some people suggested but they did nothing. I also tried removing the filter, but that didn't improve air flow next batch. What I found works is to put the stone in boiling water with the pump running, then put it directly into the wort without shutting off the pump. I had it foaming out of the fermenter. ... show more
