  • Nice but too sensitive and not "fine writing"
Size: 21 inch Color: Gold - Split Screen
I love the size and how lightweight it is. On the downside, like most LCD writing tablets, this one is: 1) Too sensitive. You end up smudging the screen with your hand as you write. Any mildly strong physical contact (e.g. minor bumps) will "write" on the screen. The pen itself is just a solid piece of hard plastic, not anything special. Remember, you can only erase the whole board (or half, in the split screen model), you cannot erase just one small area. There is no "rubber eraser." 2) The lines are not very thin. This tablet writes like a sharpie. This limits how detailed the words or drawings can be. This is not about pixels! This device has NO concept of pixels. You CAN usually get a line somewhat as thin as you want, as long as you touch the screen softly enough with a fine enough object. What I am talking about here is the average line you get from regular use with the pen that comes with it. There are a few (very few actually) other LCD writing tablets on Amazon that have so-called "fine writing", and honestly, it makes a very honest difference. This tablet writes like a sharpie, "fine writing" write likes a gel ballpoint pen. ... show more

  • UNABLE TO ERASE, UNLESS YOU ERASE THE ENTIRE BOARD
Size: 21 inch Color: Gold - Split Screen
I bought this LCD writing board because I thought I could use it to jot down ideas for dinner. I’ve been using a dry erase board, but it’s puny and cheap. So I was excited to receive this board. The box arrived well packaged. But when I opened the inner box, there was a powder all over it. Thicker than a powder, more like a very fine sand. Something made me worry about this — I suppose because the outer box carried a warning about the toxicity of enclosed batteries, and I guess I thought the batteries might’ve leaked. So I wiped the outer box down, and then the inner box, which had even more of the powder on it. Strangely, the powder was difficult to see, but I could surely feel it. I broke down the outer box and gave it to my cat, who is obsessed by cardboard and rectangles. He fought with the box, then settled into it. And suddenly I got worried about the powder and shooed him away. All that said, I really wanted this tablet to be useful to me. However, the moment I took it out of the box, I felt that paying $60 for this board was a mistake. The tablet is very, very light, as in flimsy. Writing on the tablet is pleasant enough, and if there’s a light on overhead, the writing on the board is pretty bright. But without a light, you can barely see the writing at all. But the most inconvenient thing about this tablet is that if you make a mistake and wish to erase it — a letter, a word, a sentence — you can’t. You have to erase the entire half of the board. (I bought the split-screen version.) What good is that?! That’s as if you had to delete an entire document, when you only needed to delete a sentence of the document. So I’m not sure what use this tablet is. Why not use a chalk board or a dry erase board? Now, I’ll come to what really worried me about the Tugau LCD Writing Tablet. I had almost forgotten about the powder on the boxes, when I saw a tiny chart in the tiny “booklet” calling itself ‘Instructions for Use.’ This little chart lists —“Hazardous Substance. Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biophenyls, Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether.” The chart indicates that “the content of the hazardous substance in all homogeneous materials of the part is below the limit requirement of GB/T26572.” An internet search for GB/T26572 yields a PDF which states that, GB/T26572 is the National Standard of the People’s Republic of China Requirements of concentration limits for certain restricted substances in electrical and electronic products. Issued on May 12, 2011. Obviously, the powder could’ve been dirt from when the tablet box was packaged. Twice. But my review would be no better if there hadn’t been any powder. This tablet is useless to me. ... show more

  • Kids love it
Size: 21 inch Color: Gold - Split Screen
Got it for my grandkids, who are basically trapped at home when not at school, the NoCal deluge of rain is so bad, they can’t do anything outdoors. It is mud soup, and trying to keep their house on top of the not-large hill, it is a good candidate for just letting loose and sliding down, and the rain. never. stops. Figured it might help my SAHM DIL not lock herself in the bathroom to scream into the full hamper 😅 They are 8 and 12, girl and boy. Anyone with kids or who has kids close to them knows that that sh*t can get real with two of their ages and sexes. My wonderful grandkids are very very good, well behaved kids - out of the house. In the house too, if not on each other’s last nerve. This is fun for them, and the split screen is really nice. One can draw on one side, and one on the other and compare. They can play word and picture games together, or they can have it on their own to make up what they want to do. They are hiking, outdoorsy NoCal kids with public lands across the fence in backyard. There are trails cut for walking and four wheeling, and Yosemite is almost right on top of them. Being cooped up like this is hard on all three, kids and adults. This helps to give them something new and interesting to do. I expect the 12 year old won’t be as I to it after awhile, as his little 8 year old sister is. She is at the drawing rainbows and unicorns and Pokémon’s and their cats, and all the things younger kids love to draw. FYI she is not “encouraged” to draw rainbows etc, rather than cats, trucks, whatever else. She is very girly when not hiking (even then really lol), and SHE wants to draw the “girl stuff”, OK? Don’t flip out at your perception of sex-based roles for kids, the patriarchy or whatever else some people can find to be offended over. Just a toy guys. The longevity of the electronics or mechanics isn’t evident yet, only been using it very very briefly so far. Ditto the dropping of the tablet, nothing drastic yet, so that remains to be seen too. Nice toy to keep multiple ages of kids occupied. Even toddlers could use it I imagine. They draw too! ... show more
