  • How-to information for the gift-giver
Size: 12"W x 12"H Color: Pink
Our LCD writing board was packed with a 3-pound bag of food on top of it. Not a great customer service, Amazon! Despite that, the board works perfectly. I opened the writing board box and shreds of the packing plastic fell out. The board came with what I discovered is an extra CR2016 3-volt lithium battery which was loose in the writing board's box (safety hazard if a young child gets it). Thinking it was shipped with the battery outside of the case, I used an eyeglasses screwdriver to open the battery case drawer. Be sure to do this somewhere (like a tabletop *away* from the edge) that if the screw drops, you will be able to find it in this century. : ) The screw is as tiny as possible. The switch to make the board unerasable is on the back and works great. Next, how do I REMOVE the STYLUS??? Based on another review that said to pull it straight up and out, I dug my fingernails under the back end of the stylus and yanked with moderate force. That was the trick. The stylus tip is in a protective hole. The back end (if it were a pencil, the eraser end) has to come out first. It also came with a stretchy cord. To attach the cord, first put one loop through the stylus end and bring the rest of the cord over the stylus and through the loop. Pull snug. Second, put the other loop through the hole on the writing board (I did this from the back of the board). Bring the stylus over the board edge and down through the loop. The bead will come through the hole, too, when you pull the loop snug. If you attach the cord to the writing board first, you won't be able to attach it to the stylus. To place the stylus back in its holder, put the tip into the tip hole. Align the back end to the slot. I was careful to keep the cord out of the slot, but I don't know if that matters. I used the pinky end of my fist and gave the stylus a quick tap. It snapped right into the slot. The actual writing area is 9 inches by 6.75 inches. I think that is plenty big. It can be held either way - portrait or landscape orientation. Just don't accidently squeeze the erase button while holding the edge. My only concern is that there is no power switch. The box promises me the battery life is about two years. Since it is on All the time, two years will be a nice surprise. That extra battery is appreciated! I haven't given this to the child yet. It is best on a holiday morning to have the toy all set up ready to use, so that's what I just did. I'm glad I spent some time preparing it for fun, fun, fun! ... show more

  • Entertaining

My 2 yo grandson loves nthis little tablet. Keeps him entertained. Easy to use. Has a string that keeps the pencil attached to the tablet. No lost pen like my last one.

  • I like it!
Size: 8"W x 0.5"H Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. Edit; I lied, when I was throwing away the box it came in, I found the black stretchy String to connect the pen to the pad. So it did totally come with a string thing! Glad it fell out before I tossed the box! Pros; 1.No fuss no mess! 2.easy delete button 3. Screen lock/unlcok 4. Pen locks into place on the top of the board and doesn't fall off! 5.There's a place to lace string to the pen and board so pen doesn't get lost, and it does indeed come with said stretchy string, which is long enough to reach all of the pad and it stretches for that extra fun, (I like to wrap the string around the pen while I talk to clients on the phone) ;D 6. And it's Light weight! CONS; 1. Very light weight, I was afraid my kids would step on it and break it.. my 2 and 5 year old have both indeed stepped on it but it's still okay.. I'll let ya know what happens when I accidentally step on it tho.. 2. You can't erase a small portion of the board, you will have to push the button to delete everything on the board. 2. The screen lock button on the back is pretty cheap like, if I had to guess it'll probably break/stop working at some point, of course I could be wrong, it just seems that way. 3. No it does not glow in the dark but in a normal lit room the board is pretty bright! The brighter the room, the brighter the board. ... show more

  • (12") Flimsier and less precise than others I have used.
Size: 8"W x 0.5"H Color: Black
I love cheap LCD tablets for taking temporary notes, helping my kids with math, or just doodling, so I had pretty clear expectations of what I was getting when I grabbed this on a lightning deal. Unfortunately, this tablet is not as good as the others I have used. I have owned an original boogie board and a ~10 inch copy, both of which worked nicely, felt reasonably sturdy and were able to register thin enough lines to display the equivalent of writing on a wide-ruled notebook. This tablet feels a lot less sturdy, like the screen itself is a bit loose from the backing. Worse, the line thickness is, at best, on par with a standard sharpie marker, making this pretty bad for any kind of notes or calculations. I think this is actually because the screen flexes too much when writing, such that the pressure (which is what switches the very small LCD pixels to trasparent) diffuses a bit. The color is nice, and the screen clears to a very deep and uniform black, but there is no reasonable way to acheive the level of detail shown in the product pictures. It's not worth returning, but I will have to order a better one for my purposes :( ... show more

  • Perfect gift for a toddler or small child!
Size: 9"W x 8.5"H Color: White
I happened across this while in search of something else, I thought it would be perfect for my 18month old niece because she still likes to shove everything in her mouth but being an artist myself I wanted to introduce her to art without having her eat crayons and such. Not only was this so cheap so even if it was a bust it wouldn’t have been a real waste of money. It wasn’t though. I gave it to her for Xmas and once she found out what it was it was the only thing she wanted. She had this thing in her hand the whole day and the hour drive back home with my sister. No toxic crayons or markers to eat, and even better no mess! It came with two batteries for the delete button which is so easy to use and quick to learn, even for an 18month old toddler! So happy with this purchase! ... show more
