After reading lots of reviews about other lawn leveler rakes I was really worried about sturdiness. People said the handles bent/broke, the leveler itself was flimsy or not flat/squared off. Even tho there was only 1 rating and no reviews for this rake I decided to buy it because it just looked sturdier than others. Maybe it was because the rake part was painted black, not a valid reason, I know but . . . VERY happy with the rake. Bought the 6 ft handle and it's actually more like 8 ft. Perhaps I got an extra piece. I do think that even 6 ft is too long, tho. I think it will work better with a shorter handle. BTW, the handle pieces are very sturdy so don't think they'll bend. I'm not thrilled with the threads on the screw together part--they're very wide apart and shallow and I may find on more use that they tend to want to come unscrewed but I'll just duct tape them together if that happens. The rake part is quite heavy which, while sturdy, is almost too heavy. Tried this on a dirt only area in my yard and due to the weight it does 'sink' down into the dirt more than you want it to making it 'dig' into the dirt some so using a shorter handle will help control how far it goes into the dirt. I think you'd be fine buying this with a 5 ft handle. I am giving 4 stars rather than 5 because I think it may be TOO heavy :). If it was lighter it would skim over the top more easily. But I am happy that it won't break and bend. That was my main concern. ... show more

Yeah, the weak point is the bolt between the handle and rake, but its not that weak. I used this to level 20 cyd of topsoil with no issues, and it looks like it did when I opened it. I have a real issue with the other reviewers making me second guess my purchase, because although I wish the rake were larger, it worked perfectly. ... show more

I read a few reviews on this before purchasing which made me pause a bit before ordering. There was some criticism about the size and the fact that the rake flipped up when pulling back. These are the reviews I seem to remember best. Regarding the size, I personally did not have an overly large section that I needed this tool for. I certainly was not doing my entire lawn but rather patches that needed attention. The size of this tool worked well for my needs. On the technique of using, when pulling back I found that putting a bit of resistance on top of the pole with my non-pulling hand kept the tool from flipping up. It took a bit of getting used to but it worked fine. The overall quality seems to be good and I have used it on many patches of my yard so far this season. I would recommend this tool. ... show more

I was looking for a well-priced leveling rake to even out some new topsoil I sprinkled over my front and back lawns. A lot of the reviews on other products talked about failing welds so I was skeptical that this one would hold up to a few hours of work. I was happily surprised that it held up well with zero damage after quite a bit of work. I like the coating that was applied over the metal and wonder if that helps its integrity at all, or if it's just for looks. The handle comes in a bunch of different sections so you can choose how long you want it. I'm a tall guy and at the maximum height it was more than long enough. The only problem I had with the rake was that with each back stroke, the bottom edge seemed to catch the ground and want to flip the whole rake upside-down. I tried a lot of different techniques and ways of holding it and was still fighting the problem the whole time. Maybe it's inherent to all of these rakes, but I'd love to see some type of one-way hinge, or a weight on the forward edge to keep it from happening so often because it got super annoying. Overall, great value for $45 when there are plenty of $100+ options out there. ... show more

The pole part broke off because it wasn't welded well. I'm keeping this because I know how to weld so I'm going to fix it myself but this is the first time I bought something from Amazon that only lasted 20 minutes of use.
