This is a solid, well-built aerator. It is simple to assemble. I started with the five spikes to use in my garden. Then, I installed the large plate to work on small parts of my yard that needed help. Being in my upper 60s, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this ViveGro Spike Aerator is to use. I’ve never used one before. Our area has clay soil, which is frustratingly hard as a rock when dry! So, before I attempted to use the aerator, I watered the lawn to soften the soil. I only had to use light foot pressure to push the spikes into the ground. What a delight it is to use a tool that is easy to assemble, built well and strong, and works as advertised. I half expected this tool to fall apart, a spike break or the footplate to bend, but it is built to last when used properly. The cleaning tool worked well in scraping mud off the spikes while using it. When done, I hose off the dirt and mud and let the tool dry thoroughly in the sun before storing it. I do have the lawn professionally aerated, but this aerator allows me to take care of areas that need extra care or re-seeding. I’m anxious to see how the areas respond to the aeration. From what I've learned, that will take a month or more. I’m hopeful it will make a difference.

This lawn aerator works exceptionally well & is a valuable addition to our gardening tools. Although some minor assembly is required, it is straightforward & manageable. Four bolts are used to attach the top & bottom halves, and each spike must be individually attached. The aerator offers flexibility with the option to use a single row of 5 spikes or an attachable plate that expands it to 3 rows, totaling 15 spikes. The assembly process takes about 10 minutes, and all necessary tools are included. Once assembled, the aerator is sturdy & easy to use. The padded handles significantly reduce strain on your hands, making the aeration process comfortable. The spikes are robust & durable, penetrating the ground effortlessly. Additionally, a versatile cleaning tool is included, that also serves as a weeding tool. My husband frequently uses this aerator & finds it highly effective in improving airflow to both bare & dense spots in our sod, which we laid a few years ago. Overall, this aerator is a fantastic tool for maintaining a healthy & lush lawn.

This works as a great in-between option to core aeration, and allows you to hit trouble areas that a machine can't. In my use I have clay soil that gets compacted near my driveway and walkways so using it there the day after a good rain or after watering allows me to get that ground ready to receive nutrients and fertilizer much better than doing nothing at all. This is a well put together unit for light duty and should serve it's purpose for a long time.

This is a simple lawn aerator for manual use on a small yard to break up compacted soil and roots so they can access nutrients better. This gadget doesn't go as deep as a commercial aerator, and using it requires pressing the spikes into one small area at a time. It works well with the spikes going in easily and coming out easily. The work goes pretty quickly, but you have to repeat so many times to get an effective aeration. This comes completely disassembled in a small box and you need to put it together. That process is easy, but there are a lot of bolts that have to be tightened. It took me about 40 minutes. If you want a relatively inexpensive way to aerate your lawn, this is a decent choice.
