This Super Crema is a true medium espresso roast with its smoothness while still having a balanced body profile that paired well with my brown sugar oat milk creamer. I don’t find it bitter, and has nice tasting notes of sweet caramel and hazelnut. True to the name, it produced a nice crema finish brewed from my espresso machine that gave me that full-bodied, luxurious taste with each sip that was only enhanced when added to my frothed-up oat milk. My espresso machine grinds the whole beans on an as-needed basis, so the freshly grinded beans produced a pleasant fragrant aroma. The beans are a combination of arabica and robusta, and I definitely got a nice boost from the caffeine bump from the 40% robusta. While I'm normally a dark roast drinker, the 22-ounce bag is a good size when I want to switch it up and am able to go through this bag in under a month or so. And while I would consider myself a coffee aficionado, I appreciate a quality brand like Lavazza that still delivers a shot of espresso at an affordable price without compromising on taste and provides consistent quality to their whole coffee beans.

This review is for Lavazza Super Crema Whole Bean Coffee, Medium Espresso Roast. This is a medium-large bag of whole coffee beans that do need to be ground, but I like that because it means the coffee is fresh when I make it. I'm not great at picking up on scent or taste notes (coffee, caramel, chocolate, dandelions, whatever) but this has a good rich strong smell that matches the flavor.

Oh that's smooth...wow. As a bit of a medium roast hater (and light roast I want to ban from the earth), I won't say that I am converted away from the dark side, but this is one smooth, mellow coffee that is quite good. Think I'm joking? I've thrown away a fresh cup of coffee two feet from the cash register in protest because I didn't know the "espresso" was medium roast. This Lavazza Super Crema doesn't have that sourness and tang that I get from most medium roasts. It has a very mild nuttiness and a nice finish.

I am an avid coffee drinker--typically doing 2-3 americanos each day from our home espresso machine. I typically drink very dark roasts, but switched it up to try this medium roast. I was very happy. As one would expect with a name like this, great crema when freshly ground to espresso fine. My wife who drinks as much as me, asked when we were out at a coffee shop in our little Italy what amazing beans were they using as we needed to do the same. Well, it was Lavazza and she really enjoyed it at home as well. Definitely recommend!

This is decent coffee from a known and established good brand, but the cost is still hard to justify vs something you could get from a local store for cheaper. Some of the larger capacity bulk options are more economical and seem of similar quality as well.
