You know, I've gotten 4 lava lamps from here over the past 11 months. 1st one, this particular one, is and will be awesome! Works perfectly, looks perfect, you get it, the thing is perfect! 2nd, and 4th lamps are pure shit, threw one in the garbage that's how pure the turd is. Turd Uber alles one could say, I am that one. First was just a cloudy mess no matter what I did short of opening it. The 4th ordered another cloudy POS, less cloudy, and I could see the improvements to the lamp frame, etc, yet the internals still fell short. Lastly is the 3rd one I bought, was slightly cloudy with one solid chunk of wax, but still pretty when she cleared up. What am I trying to say in this review? Just that it's a crapshoot buying one online apparently, mine were packed right, unopened, yet still sucked. ... show more

I see people have problems with bulbs. I engineered mine a little and I love it! I've noticed if you see a display with multiple lights going, they are all different. Some rise slowly, others are perky, bubbling away. This lamp is a little science experiment: heated liquid rises, cools and sinks back down. The problem is, its all thermal. If the bulbs are not consistent, they give off differing amounts of heat. The temperature of room air affects it too: in warm air it bubbles more, less with cold air. For starters, the bulb is a simple appliance bulb, sold in hardware stores. If the lamp is too slow, replace it. No need to order them. Second, I put a table top dimmer on mine (yea, another $12). The lamp plugs into the dimmer cord, then into the wall. The dimmer slider sits on the table next to the lamp. If it gets too perky, I dim it and slow it down. I keep it on my desk at work, and dim it so it is VERY lazy. I find it calming. Third, maybe I shouldn't recommend, It might cause a fire or something. However, I put the next higher wattage bulb in mine (yea, another $3), so it warms up in like 20min. Then I turn it down. Who knows what will happen if I forget... I wanted to share this because I love mine. Its totally adjustable. It might even be fun to keep it perky or quiet on your desk to match your mood. If someone comes in and that thing's bubbling away, just quietly tip toe out! Coming from CO, it reminds me of tending a wood stove: keep adjusting it so the flame is lazy and mesmerizing. Video doesn't do the colors justice because its low light, but it works really well. No issues with cloudiness or bulb issues. First time we had to run it for a couple hours to get everything flowing well, but after a couple uses it heats up quick. The nice thing is that its not scalding hot either like the ones from when I was a kid. Only complaint is that there are little white flecks in parts of coloring of the bottle where the costing didn't quite stick, but not noticeable...and for the price of this unit its well worth it. So I first will start off saying that my lamp didn’t come in foggy at all!! Which I appreciate so much. I do want to say something because a lot of people don’t really know how these work but just a reminder that these do take a couple hours to fully heat up (mostly because they’re wax I’m pretty sure) I know a lot of people seem confused when it doesn’t work right away so I just figured it would be helpful to mention. But all in all, I have to say this is a great lava lamp. it came in great condition and it’s so pretty to look at. I grew up having the blue and green one and I didn’t really enjoy that color but this pinkish purply orange is my favorite. I will also mention mine came in 6 days early then expected which is very convenient. ... show more

If you're looking for a Lava lamp, but are afraid of wasting money on it due to the reviews, PLEASE keep reading! -This product is definitely worth a purchase!‐ I was extremely hesitant to buy online because of all the reviews stating that the lamp was defective in some way (broken bulb/glass, coil not working etc) but what made me want to try was another review expressing how to troubleshoot with the lamp in the case of it not doing what was expected out of it immediately. I really appreciate that reviewer and I hope this review will be worth the read for others who are on the fence but really want one. I received the package in fine condition, read the start up instructions (please read them!), and set up my lamp with no issues! Since it's cold where I live, I had to let the bottle warm to my bedrooms ambient temperature before turning on the lamp The lava process needs patience in order for it to work. The rest of the checklist was fine (coil was nestled in the right spot, bottle was not cloudy, bulb was packaged well and was intact.) After I turned on the lamp, it took about 5 hours for the wax to start "towering", and after a day, it was working perfectly. Now this is where ambient temperatures come into play for me. I have a bedroom that is either too warm or too cold. The instructions state that the lamp works best in a certain temperature range, that way the bottle can stay warm enough throughout the day to keep the wax melted as it flows to the top. I had turned my lamp off for 2 days when my area had a cold front move in, so my room got colder. The lava never settled to the bottom fully, so it was left in a "stalagmite" or lumpy shape for those 2 days because it didn't cool slow enough. I ran it for 3 days after, on and off like the instructions say to do, but it never melted the wax fully. I researched what I could do to fix it but since my coil was where it should be, I wasn't finding help online. (Last pic is an example of this problem.) I decided to take a risk and heat some water to a simmer (almost boiling), and poured the water into a seperate large container so I could gently melt the wax and warm the bottle without breaking the glass. It worked well enough, and it seems that the lava is working perfectly now! TL:DR - take the plunge and buy this lamp. If the product is not working as intended, customer service is here to troubleshoot or even replace your lamp (I didn't need to contact though) and if you follow the instructions as best you can, this lamp works just fine! Make sure to keep your room at a good temp and you shouldn't have the same issue as me. If you do, just heat the bottle back up in some hot water (like giving it a "bath" 😅) and it should solve the issue! Thanks for reading! ... show more

This takes me back to disco and those carefree days! Works great, just like in the old days. For those having trouble remembering Lava technology (memory is the second thing to go) I offer the following. A Lava Lite works by heating the goo (the lava) and thus changing its density to less than the fluid. It then rises to the top and cools where it cools and falls down to begin the cycle again. If the goo is not at the bottom of the light, at its hottest part, it will not get hot enough and will not rise - bummer. In shipping, the light is frequently placed on its side and the goo settles against the side of the light, not the bottom. When first turned on, this is where the goo stays; does not 'melt' and go to the bottom; does not get hot enough to rise; and the light does not work. Solution is simple. Let the light warm up for a few hours and then shake the light till the goo is at the bottom and at its hottest part. Shortly the goo will heat, rise, and you can put on your favorite disco record. NOTE: wear gloves to handle the hot light - the light will not work after its been dropped and broken. ... show more

    • BUY THIS IF YOU WANT TO WAIT A MONTH FOR A WORKING LAVA LAMP!
When I received this lamp, I was SUPER EXCITED to FINALLY have the lava lamp I've wanted since I was a kid! My excitement was dampened when the directions indicated it needed to sit for a day to "settle." The oil was very cloudy, so I understand this is part of the process. Patience! I was so patient I left it for a whole day. It was still cloudy. SO I followed the directions, let the wax soften, shut it down and waited another day. Still cloudy. It is now day five. It is still bloody cloudy. I wrote to the manufacturer. This is what I got back: Lava Orders <[email protected]> Apr 3, 2023, 9:19 AM (2 days ago) to me Hello Mollena, Thank you for your submission. Let’s try clearing your lamp using another technique! Please turn your lamp on for 8 hours to allow it to reach its peak temp to flow and the base is warm to the touch. At this stage, the wax should be softened (it may take a bit longer for the larger size lamps) and flowing. Once the lamp reaches this point then please turn the lamp off and allow it to cool completely, to where it does not feel as if it has been on. The next day, please turn the lamp on and let it heat just long enough for the wax to begin flowing, then turn it off and let it cool to room temp – then repeat this step as often as you can daily. Usually, it can be done at least three times within an 8 – 10 hour window. You will want to do this daily over 1 – 2 weeks, longer if you see the lamp clearing but it isn’t quite as clear as it should be. Cloudiness is residue from the lava which has separated, either because of extreme temperature changes or rough handling (or both). In most cases, a lamp will clear up within weeks if run in frequent, short cycles. In the heating phase the flowing lava collects some of the residue, then in the cooling phase it reabsorbs it. Each subsequent run/cool cycle will collect more residue and after a few weeks of these cycles the liquid should be nearly or fully clear again. Please ensure the lamp is not in a window, under an AC or in front of a fan as the cooler temps can cause an issue with how the wax flows and cause cloudiness. Please be sure to keep an eye on the return-by date when troubleshooting your lamp. Defective items should be returned to the place of purchase for an exchange or refund as we have agreements in place." These are obviously not stored in ideal conditions, then are bounced around mercilessly. Since I don't have the original packaging, I can't return it without losing money. SO! If you want a lamp that takes as much setup time as a saltwater fishtank, by all means get this thing. ... show more

Bought this for a funky fun mood in our office loft. It's great! The colors (purple liquid, yellow wax) were something I had to think about but my choice was spot on for the look I wanted. Nothing garish or odd. Rather, a beautiful sunset - in terms of colors...red, orange, purple, gold. I followed the instructions and the item did need additional time to begin fully moving. I can imagine impatient folks trying to shake it to speed things up - bad move - as that would tend to cloud your liquid. There is a circular metal coil that is unseen when the was fully melts. You could see mine in the was blob as it began to melt. It then settled, unseen, into the bottom section where it remains now. It took 10 hours one day and another 3 the next for the complete was melt and free flowing movement to begin. Worth the wait. Ten hours is the maximum on-time per day and again, I followed all directions. You won't be sorry if you try this lamp! ... show more
