The lava lamp is great!! PSA: to anyone who says that the liquid inside is murky and you can’t see the bubbles you just have to run it 2-3 times and the liquid clears up!!! Your item is NOT defective. All of the teeny tiny wax particles in the liquid just need to melt fully and then the liquid becomes clear. It takes multiple times running the lamp to do so. I am at about.10-12 hours now and it’s starting to become completely clear inside. The first time I turned it on it was completely cloudy. This is normal, don’t worry just keep running it!!!

A bunch of reviews say this lamp is cloudy. And sure, you think: “Okay, maybe people are impatient or don’t know how lava lamps work.” and it makes sense, right? We live in the age of instant gratification and all. Nope. It depends on whether you got a good lamp… or one of the MANY defective ones. Mine arrived cloudy/milky and I followed the instructions exactly. I ran it for hours. I did multiple cool-down cycles. I gave it DAYS. And yes, the liquid got a little clearer… just enough to reveal the real problem: The wax is FULL of bubbles. Not a couple. A RIDICULOUS amount. The blobs literally look aerated, like someone whipped the wax like they were trying to make whipped cream in there. That’s not “shipping particles.” That’s a manufacturing defect and it's not hard to figure that out. I even emailed the company directly asking for a replacement globe, because clearly this one is defective. Their response was basically: “Cloudiness is normal, keep cycling it for 1–2 weeks… and if you're not happy return it to Amazon.” So just to be clear: the company does NOT help you. They're great if you want someone to repeat to what the box insert says. Reach out, they'll repeat it to you in a longer version. They just push you back to Amazon which is surprising Amazon allows it honestly. And here’s the part that matters: This company has been making lava lamps since 1965. That’s 61 years of producing the same basic product. If something stays relevant for 61 years, it’s because it’s basically a 5-star idea and people liked it a 5-star rate. So how does a product this simple and timeless end up sitting at 3.6 stars? Answer: quality control is non-existent and customer service doesn't exist. Some people get a good lamp (very few though it appears). Others get cloudy junk that they're little "helpful" booklet doesn't help. How cloudy? I can't see my fingers on the other side of the lamp through what? 3 inches of liquid? But don't worry, I'm sure it'll clear before the Universe itself ends, I'll be long gone but not the company's problem apparently. If you get a good one, great. But if you get a bad one like mine, don’t expect the company to make it right, they see it as Amazon's problem.

It comes perfectly wrapped, it got here fast. At the beginning it looks funky, however once you follow instructions it turns into the pretty colors that show in the pictures. I love it

The purple liquid with the red wax makes for a really incredible visual. It does take a while to get warm enough to melt the wax and start the "lava" effect, but that's just the way lava lamps work. It's a nice solid piece and looks great.

I bought this to replace a Lava Lamp of the same color that was about 15 years old and starting to fade. Unfortunately the new ones have really decreased in quality. The fluid in the lamp I received was very cloudy and the wax looked fuzzy. Also when the wax softened after it warmed it became a bunch of little balls that stayed up at the top of the lamp and didn't flow up and down. I returned it and ordered a replacement lamp of the same color, purple fluid and yellow wax. The replacement was exactly the same with cloudy fluid and little balls of wax staying up at the top after the lamp warmed up. Other reviewers have reported the same issues. I regret I didn't go by their reviews. I did try the suggestions offered by the manufacturer to clear up the fluid which were not successful on either of the lamps I tried. I wish Lava Lamp would go back to their previous manufacturer as those lamps were high quality and lasted for years. There are so many similar complaints like mine that Amazon should pay attention to. Does nobody other than customers read these reviews? Fortunately Amazon refunded my purchase. If I could give it no stars I would have but Amazon does not allow that. I do not recommend this lava lamp.

This is the second lamp, of the style "Deep Ocean". Got the first one from the grandkids, as a gift. The first globe was cloudy and murky. After 2 weeks of following, to the letter, enclosed instructions on how to clear it, I spoke to Schyilling Co. Customer Service. The rep was of little help, doubtful a replacement could be sent, since the lamp was from a "3rd party" and not ordered via Amazon. Ordered lamp #2 of the "Deep Ocean" style, not to disappoint the kids, from Amazon. That lamp arrived marginally clearer, but was unable to see my fingers, on the other side of the globe and the wax was like looking through fog and mist. After another week of following clearing instructions, without success, the company was called again, with the same response/excuses: 3rd party seller, Amazon is solely responsible for the lamp's condition and operation, we are not, just keep recycling the lamp, only thing we can suggest is buying a another lamp, too bad, so sad. Have seen other reviews of very poor customer service, poor quality control, lousy packing and shipping policies and refusing to take any responsibility, for the item's functioning. Have owned lava lamps, since 1975, this problem has never happened before and customer service had always been top-notch, with any problems experienced. Replacing a defective $39.95 lamp, shouldn't be an act of Congress to do so. Guess, like customer "service" for anything else, in 2026, buyer beware. Give it two stars, as lamps worked as advertised, but unable to see the wax, due to the murkiness. .
