  • An ergonomically designed IPL hair removal device that works well, BUT not for everyone …
At home IPL photon light lasers can and do work, but Individuals should stay away from them. If you have white, off-white, red, or blond hair, these devices aren’t recommended. Some also caution that because of the possibility of skin damage, those who have very dark pigmentation or have had a lot of artificial tanning or sun exposure shouldn’t use IPL at home. The IPL is not as effective as diode laser treatments, however, it is relatively painless. That being said, IPL was and is a very effective treatment for permanent hair removal. There are a few different styles, but primarily the units for at home use tend to be almond- or rectangular-shaped like this one. This IPL is ergonomically designed and I had no trouble holding or using it. There’s a comprehensive user manual with plenty of cautionary notes, but not enough on how to actually use the IPL and what will happen. It definitely could be clearer so I’ll do my own version below. This unit does flash and works very well. HOW TO USE AN IPL PHOTON LIGHT LASER: 1. Make sure the area you want to treat is free from surface hair. A disposable razor will work well (included). Shave the hair, then make sure the area you wish to treat is dry. 2. Clean the light outlet (lens) and applicable attachment with a Q-tip with a bit of medical alcohol or use an alcohol prep pad. 3. Plug in the unit and tap the power button to select a mode. 4. After tapping the power button, select a level. 5. For larger areas, move the light outlet along the skin. Go easy, especially in those sensitive bikini areas. 6. After use, once again clean the light outlet and lens with alcohol and apply a soothing lotion of choice to the treated area(s). The effects of the IPL won’t be seen immediately, but rather will occur over a period of weeks. Remember not to overdo treatment to ensure you won’t damage your skin. Perhaps the best option is to lay out the chart I found in another IPL manual, which I replicated below. This will probably help with the decision to purchase or not to purchase this unit. The treatment does take time and effort so do your research. The prices do range, but are coming down, but this one isn’t expensive at apparently is around $100. Weigh your options, including how long you want your treatments to last and how much you want to spend. TREATMENT CYCLE REFERENCE TABLE: 1-4 Weeks … Use 2 to 3 Times a Week (More than 75% of hair starts to fall off naturally) 5 – 6 Weeks … Use 2 Times a Week (New hair loss and inhibits growth) 7 – 8 Weeks … Use Once a Week (Hair becomes thinner and less, no longer rebounds) More than 8 Weeks … Use 1 to 2 Times a Week (According to the state of hair growth, it can be used selectively [when the hair grows], it can be used again until it no longer grows) WHAT’S IN THE BOX: IPL Hair Removal Device AC/DC Adaptor (Proprietary) Sunglasses Razor User Manual Quick Start Guide CERTIFICATIONS: CE FCC RoHS ... show more

  • Start low
Great for stopping hair growth on unwanted areas. Set to the mode and then set the desired power level. Go ahead and start on the lowest setting in order to avoid burns. Make sure to trim or shave the area beforehand to get the best results. Just place over the area u want to treat and press the big button in the middle. You may feel some heat but that's the hair being zapped and not your skin. Worked great for me. ... show more

  • Adequate IPL. Adds active cooling (ICE) and body-region modes. Modest power 36W.
Having tested a huge number of IPL devices at this point, I'd say this IPL falls squarely in the lower-mid level tier. It has some bonus features, but it's also relatively low powered. Specifics of this IPL device: ** Includes ICE skin cooling functionality ** Selectable power level (1-5) ** Selectable body part focus (Body/Face/Bikini) ** Rated for 36W (lower midrange) ** Oblong shape. ** No focusing lenses ** Rated for 999,900 flashes You run the tool over the area where you want to remove hair and make sure you expose all the hair follicles in that region. You will not see any immediate results. The light signals your hair to stop growing, but it requires multiple treatments over several weeks before you will be expected to see results. Eventually, you should find a substantial reduction in the hair in the treated areas. In the box, you get the tool, a power cord, a pair of eye protection glasses, a cheap disposable razor, plus instructions. "Ice" functionality AKA "Local epidermal cooling," which is included here, uses a Peltier junction to reduce the heat at the point of contact. The high-powered light can be irritating to some people, and cooling the skin in that region can reduce the immediate irritation. The three modes (body/face/bikini) are not clearly explained in the manual, so it's not clear what difference to the operation those modes make. I'd hesitate to say hose are particular value, as a result. This IPL is mid-priced. You do get the epidermal cooling, but you also get a lower end 36W power supply, which is disappointing at the price. The device seems to work OK--like most of the many IPL devices you can find on Amazon. So if you want an IPL device that includes ICE and the price is attractive (these things frequently get discounted via promotions), then this would be an OK choice. But shop around. Summary: Pros: ** Integrates epidermal cooling (ICE) ** Three modes (body/face/bikini) Cons: ** More expensive than other IPL devices with similar features ** Relatively low powered (36W) ** Oblong shape may be uncomfortably wide for smaller hands ** Mode behaviors not suitably described in the manual; not clear how useful they are ** Heat exhaust vents on IPL are all on the bottom, and are blocked if you place the IPL down while it's on ... show more

  • Seems to work well.
I have never used a laser hair removal device before, so I have nothing to compare this to. I have been using this for a few weeks now and I believe it is doing it's job. Hairs are becoming thinner and growing slower. I have figured out the automatic mode, which flashes as it hits the skin. This was much easier than pushing the button every time I moved the device. I have had it on the lowest setting and it does get fairly warm, it was not uncomfortable at all. It is easy to use and come with good directions. Be sure to read all the directions before use because there are some big advisories for use. My only complaint is that it is a bit hard to hold on to. The button is on the front and hard to reach with small hands. The vent is on the side and often gets covered by my hand. I really have to find a good grip that doesn't interfere with hanging on to the device. ... show more
