I bought this after returning another ball winder I didn’t like because it wouldn’t roll a full skein of yarn. This one rolled my almost full skein in less than 10 min. I was a little disappointed because the cone came with scratches on the surface and inside was all scratched up which indicates to me that it was used. After looking up a video to assemble it and caking my yarn, I decided to keep it because I was pleased with the performance. No instructions. On first time use, gears started slipping then wouldn't turn. Did not make it thru the first skein. Trying to get back into box to return, and the cake tube that clicks into place doesn't come off..don't bother with this one!!

The clamp is perfectly fine. The gears are metal. It is much quieter than the popping little plastic thing I used to use, but of course it makes noise. It was juuuust able to cake a 16oz worsted weight yarn before the closer arm was rubbing the cake, as demonstrated in one of my pictures. I love it and highly recommend. ... show more

It's just okay but it works for the money. As others have said, it is VERY noisy. About the same amount of noises as a garbage disposal. My husband groans at me when I start winding yarn and makes his way to the man gave. It gets stuck easily. Tension regulation is your fingers which is difficult to keep tension while you keep the yarn guide from bouncing and vibrating all over the place. On the plus side, as advertised, it does hold an entire large skeen of Bernatte chunky yarn I don't plan to send it back but if I have to buy a replacement I won't buy this again. ... show more

This yarn winder is made well , no plastic rears. It will last a long time. Easy to assemble and use. Wish I had gotten it sooner. I hold the yarn with my left hand and the yarn gage.so it does not move as I trunk the handle. I have it on a snack table and use a skid prof cloth under the base.
