Description

With a magnification ratio of 2:1, the infinitely small takes its place in the heart of the image. This lens has the technical particularity of covering the full format 24x36 but above all, integrating APO technology. APO for apochromatic, which aims to correct possible chromatic and spherical aberrations. In terms of dimensions (72 x 125 mm), the lens barrel is as compact in length as other optics on the market, with an equivalent focal length of 100 mm, offering a magnification ratio of 1:1. Focus is manual (MF). Available in Canon EF, Nikon F, and Sony FE mounts. In Canon EF mount, this lens is equipped with a chip allowing canonists to use aperture priority mode, pre-selection of the diaphragm. The lens has a front diameter of 67 mm to attach a screw filter. You can also add a necklace (sold separately). This lens will undoubtedly appeal to photographers who love photos of insects of all kinds: butterflies, spiders, beetles. With focus stacking, you can easily combine dive and depth of field for high-intensity images.

  • Are you buying to put on a Sony???
I bought this to put on a Sony A7iii after the team at Laowa told me it would work and I would be able to use the aperature controls plus get exif data written to the file unlike the fully manual version for other cameras. When it arrived it didn't work properly and it would severly over expose shots. The seller was ready to refund me but I contacted Laowa directly who had promissed me it would work. They updated my lens with a new chip as my copy was an older first run firmware. Now it works like a charm. The Sony A7iii aperature controls work perfectly, I no longer get crazy overexposed images and my files all have the exif data written on them. The lens is tack sharp and gong 2x is awesom. I LOVE this lens! (The picture I attached is the first picture I took with it while walking around. I can't wait to get it in studio for some serious macro work) ... show more

  • Awesome macro lens
This is the perfect starting point for anyone looking to get into macro photography in the EF mount system. I have this paired with a 80D and the images have been fantastic so far. Since it's 100mm it also doubles as a good portrait lens as well. And is pretty fast at 2.8. Only 'down side' is a lack of any auto focus. So you have to manually keep the lens in focus yourself. It's not hard and learning this skill will only help your photography going forward. No regrets picking this one up. Wish I came across this sooner! ... show more

  • Great macro lens
I’ve had this lens for a couple of years now and it’s great. I mostly use it for macro. It gives Really sharp images the only downside is that it’s only manual focus

  • Major problem with the lens preventing me from using using it effectively
Major issue: the lens’ mount, along with the electrical contacts, aren’t machined to tight tolerances. When replacing the lens, one must exert a great force to twist the lens into place and when doing so there is a series of harsh sounds like the lens and camera contacts are skipping over each other after the force applied overcomes some resistance it’s encountering. See the pictures. I bought this lens new at the very end of 2024 and just used it a few times so far. Notice the image marked with “C”. That’s a Canon lens See how the contacts are clean and undamaged and the surrounding mount is clean too. It mounts on the camera smoothly and without obstruction. I do like the picture quality that this lens is liable to produce. However, I can’t afford to let it damage my new camera (Canon 5D Mark IV - bought them at the same time). Lesson learned (I had learned this before but we tend to forget and must relearn things): when you buy a major brand product then stick with OEM parts too. If I had another compatible Canon camera, I’d mount the lens on it and never take it off. But as it is - I’m overseas and stuck with it, so I’m sticking it in its box until some better days arrive. ... show more

  • I love this lens.
I have two 100mm lenses: the Canon 2.8 1:1 and this one. The Canon 100mm macro is probably my favorite lens for photo walks and the like, because it's both a great macro lens and a portrait lens, and the autofocus is terrific. But when I'm going for a straight-up macro expedition, when autofocus is not useful, this lens is the only one I take. The image quality is great, and the 2:1 magnification has taken my macro photos to the next level. For the price, I can't recommend enough. So much fun to shoot with! ... show more

  • My favorite lens in my kit
I mostly shoot macro insects and flowers, with a mix of many other types in there. This lens is a beast in image quality. The biggest downsides to this lens is the need for the UV filter to protect it from dust and dirt, and the weight; though it is very solid feeling. I just upgraded to the EOS R and it works perfectly with the adapter, no crop, and full aperture control. I’m buying the RF 85mm 2x macro next. ... show more

  • Best macro lens out there!
This lens is very sharp. It does not have autofocus or image stabilization. The price is very reasonable for the quality. Also note this lens is quite heavy as it is made of metal.

  • Great lens but...
I am writing this lens after a week of usage. First thing first, It's not cheap lens as being widely stated. It doesn't have IS or AF. I have Canon EF version so I can adjust aperture from my Camera. So at this price what you are getting is not very cheap and there is a tradeoff. This lens is not for everyone. I was using reverse macro technique before buying this lens. However, I don't see quality of the pics improved drastically with the lens. Definitely, this lens is more convenient to use compared to reverse macro. Now coming to Pros and cons: Pros: 1. Strong build 2. Good picture quality(not great) 3. 2X magnification, but you need to be really close to the subject 4. Lens hood and UV filter comes in the box. However, you ever hardly going to use the hood Cons: 1. IS is missing. I really wish they had IS in the lens. I can live without AF but IS is must 2. After f11 I struggled with the quality of the image. Finally big shout out to the Seller Berger-bros. They did fantastic packing and quickly dispatched the product ... show more
