Description

With a magnification ratio of 2:1, the infinitely small takes its place in the heart of the image. This lens has the technical particularity of covering the full format 24x36 but above all, integrating APO technology. APO for apochromatic, which aims to correct possible chromatic and spherical aberrations. In terms of dimensions (72 x 125 mm), the lens barrel is as compact in length as other optics on the market, with an equivalent focal length of 100 mm, offering a magnification ratio of 1:1. Focus is manual (MF). Available in Canon EF, Nikon F, and Sony FE mounts. In Canon EF mount, this lens is equipped with a chip allowing canonists to use aperture priority mode, pre-selection of the diaphragm. The lens has a front diameter of 67 mm to attach a screw filter. You can also add a necklace (sold separately). This lens will undoubtedly appeal to photographers who love photos of insects of all kinds: butterflies, spiders, beetles. With focus stacking, you can easily combine dive and depth of field for high-intensity images.

  • A simple solution for really great macro shots
This is a fantastic tool for macro shots without going whole-hog on all the tools for a really hard-core setup.

  • Remarkable Macro Lens.
This lens came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. This lens has streamlined my camera setup immensely. Before this lens arrived I was using a combination of lens tube extensions and various macro lenses making my camera very awkward to hold at certain angles. The Laowa lens has all the features you could possibly want/need in a manual focus macro lens and it makes the world of macro photography seem more realistic and less daunting to a beginner like myself. ... show more

  • Great lens but...
I am writing this lens after a week of usage. First thing first, It's not cheap lens as being widely stated. It doesn't have IS or AF. I have Canon EF version so I can adjust aperture from my Camera. So at this price what you are getting is not very cheap and there is a tradeoff. This lens is not for everyone. I was using reverse macro technique before buying this lens. However, I don't see quality of the pics improved drastically with the lens. Definitely, this lens is more convenient to use compared to reverse macro. Now coming to Pros and cons: Pros: 1. Strong build 2. Good picture quality(not great) 3. 2X magnification, but you need to be really close to the subject 4. Lens hood and UV filter comes in the box. However, you ever hardly going to use the hood Cons: 1. IS is missing. I really wish they had IS in the lens. I can live without AF but IS is must 2. After f11 I struggled with the quality of the image. Finally big shout out to the Seller Berger-bros. They did fantastic packing and quickly dispatched the product ... show more

  • Are you buying to put on a Sony???
I bought this to put on a Sony A7iii after the team at Laowa told me it would work and I would be able to use the aperature controls plus get exif data written to the file unlike the fully manual version for other cameras. When it arrived it didn't work properly and it would severly over expose shots. The seller was ready to refund me but I contacted Laowa directly who had promissed me it would work. They updated my lens with a new chip as my copy was an older first run firmware. Now it works like a charm. The Sony A7iii aperature controls work perfectly, I no longer get crazy overexposed images and my files all have the exif data written on them. The lens is tack sharp and gong 2x is awesom. I LOVE this lens! (The picture I attached is the first picture I took with it while walking around. I can't wait to get it in studio for some serious macro work) ... show more

  • Awesome macro lens
This is the perfect starting point for anyone looking to get into macro photography in the EF mount system. I have this paired with a 80D and the images have been fantastic so far. Since it's 100mm it also doubles as a good portrait lens as well. And is pretty fast at 2.8. Only 'down side' is a lack of any auto focus. So you have to manually keep the lens in focus yourself. It's not hard and learning this skill will only help your photography going forward. No regrets picking this one up. Wish I came across this sooner! ... show more

  • Very unique.
From X2 magnification to infinity. Very sharp and great build quality. My first manualny focusing lens so comes with challenges and learning curve but I am ready for it and enjoying. Glad that has connectors for f stop and data. I am Canon user. I'm glad I decided to go for this glass!

  • Sharp lens, with a critical flaw that will render it useless
I'm a professional photographer with years of wedding photography and published macro photography. I bought this lens and was so excited to use it, and I've now had to return it. Let me tell you why: grease. This lens works by sliding the entire front element back and forth inside the lens barrel, so at one end of the focus the front element is right up against the included UV filter, and at the other end it's several inches back inside the barrel. That is a lot of mechanical movement and Laowa uses a grey grease for the tracks on which the elements move. Unfortunately Laowa made the critical mistake of not using temperature stable grease, and this will ruin your lens! I had mine for about two weeks. At Day 1 no grease was visible on the front element, and only a little was visible in the internal tracks where it should be. Fast forward through just a couple days of testing and storing the lens face-down in my bag, and we're in big trouble. While traveling the warmer temperatures had thinned the grease out, allowing it to run down the inside of the barrel and make its way into the front element. A couple more days and it would have been all over the front glass as well and the lens a total loss. This is a massive, fatal flaw for this lens. Do not use it in temperatures warmer than 70F, do not store it facing down, and maybe it will last. Otherwise one day your beautifully sharp macro lens will be ruined by a poor design decision by Laowa. For macro work I returned mine immediately and bought the 25mm 2-5x which does not have this problem. Now on to the good. This lens is incredibly sharp, as others have mentioned. It has an all metal build construction, and since I bought the Canon version I was able to electronically control the aperture with my EOS R and use the control ring on my EOS R's EF to RF adapter. It's nice that you can use the lens for subjects other than macro, but understand that unless you're shooting still scenes or portraits the lack of auto focus paired with the very short focus throw will make getting sharp images very difficult. Otherwise the 1-2x magnification range is very nice, though I frequently found myself shooting at 2x and still cropping just a bit in post. This lens shoots great, but it will not last. Save your money, skip this lens and buy the 25mm 2-5x. ... show more
