The media could not be loaded. I recently started working on various projects I have had been putting off and decided to a yarn ball winder. It’s amazing how something so simple helps make a normally tedious task so efficient. It’s also very calming. The item came in a completely destroyed box. It had a bubble wrapper to contain it, but it looked like someone had ripped the product box open, shoved it all back in and returned it. This is not the seller’s fault but that of Amazon shipping. All the items appeared to be in the plastic bubble container and it worked as expected so I did not do a return for a new item. Set up is easy, you twist the knob in the side to loosen the metal bracket, slide it onto your surface and then tighten the knob to secure the winder in place. Thread the yarn through the metal feeder and slide it into one of the plastic indented spaces in the middle and then slowly turn the handle clockwise. Do not go fast. My daughter helped me work on winding a ton of yarn balls last night. Initially, you feel like it’s ok to go super fast, but we found that the yarn will slip under and get stuck into the teeth that turn the base. After a bit of use, you can pick up the speed without worry if knotting the yarn because you start to get a hang of the yarn, tension and machine. It becomes a lot easier and quicker to make balls without stopping. This is a very basic winder but it works great and does exactly what I was looking for. ... show more

Easy to assemble, easy to use. Only issue is that large skeins of yarn i have to break up into multiple balls because they get too big for the winder. Also beware of the yarn getting wrapped around the base as you’re spinning. It makes a huge tangled mess. Other than that, works great!

I bought this so that I could re-wind all of my skeins of yarn for better storage and organizations. It does it's job well and was super easy to assemble and use. I do however, have a few complaints. 1) It started squeaking super loud every time I turned the handle once I got to my second skein of yarn. My fiance tried taking it apart and using WD40 on it, but it didn't seem to help. It was only once he started spraying it in any crack/opening to try to get to the issue, did it help. So far, it hasn't started squeaking since. 2) The piece that holds it onto the table can't get hand-tight enough to keep it on the edge of the table. I'm not even going super crazy with winding it or anything, and even if I tighten it as tight as I can possibly get it with my hands alone, it will still occasionally fly off at me in the middle of winding. 3) It can only hold so much yarn before it starts getting caught. I usually just buy the standard sized skeins from Michaels or Joanns, and I'll be about half-three quarters of the way done winding it, and I'll have to manually hold the wire piece (that feeds the yarn through) out further because it starts catching on the already winded yarn and makes everything loose/tangled. It happens when I use thin yarn and standard sized yarn. Regardless, I think despite those few complaints, it does what I want it to and I got it for a reasonable price. If you're looking to be mindful of your budget yet still wind yarn up, then I recommend it. All of my complaints are fixable/maneuverable, it is just at the cost of you having to do an extra step or wind a little slower. ... show more

I got this as my first yarn winder. I really liked it at first but it was a little finicky to work with. It’s super easy to assemble and use but the yarn can get stuck under the winder easily which can be a hassle. It really does only wind 3.5oz of yarn or less so if you typically buy yarn from a craft store it will not wind the entire skein, unless you really try to make it lol. The cakes it makes aren’t the most compact so it falls apart a little when handling. It’s a good option and I would definitely recommend getting it on sale if you can but there are better options on Amazon for $5-10 more dollars. I recently got the craft destiny one (green and white) for $34 and it is a lot better than this one because it’s easier to use, winds WAYYY more yarn and creates a better cake. I don’t typically write reviews but I needed to write this one in case anyone is looking for a yarn winder for the first time and thinks they all will perform the same because they won’t! Again, this is not a bad option but if you have a few extra dollars to spare I would recommend getting another one! ... show more

I love this thing. I eventually want a nicer one, but I'm super glad I took the leap and grabbed this one. Its nice and compact for easy storage. Makes quick work of caking up the yarn. THIS IS NOT SUPER STURDY. It won't take years of wear and tear. It is also it a little rickety, but it does the job until you figure out if you want to get into the hobby of choice or not. So I bought this yarn winder (the blue one) kinda of on a whim since there were a few bad reviews that I read on here. I’m in love with this winder! It works really well and it’s very simple to use. The winder comes in bubble wrap in a well packaged little box, it comes with a little carrying bag and a set of crochet hooks (it’s the smaller sizes so think crochet thread vs yarn). Anyway I was able to get this beautiful cake done with the winder and it really wasn’t hard at all. For reference: this cake is 397 yds is worsted weight yarn size 4. It’s the mainstays yarn from Walmart in Gray (Mc20-200-009 is the dye lot in case you need it). So just as a tip you are able to move the little yarn guider arm from side to side so I was able to get this size cake because I kept moving the arm when the cake would stop collecting the yarn right. But just adjust as needed and you’ll get it. I’m having so much fun right now making cakes out of my stash! Definite recommend and it’s a pretty good buy for the price.
