I had purchased one of the original units with the defective heads. By the time I had realized the issue the window of return had closed and CPO Outlets wouldn't take it back and Laguna, at the time, ended up not being much help. Fast forward 2 years.... I noticed they had come out with an updated unit and contacted Laguna. While the process has been a bit slow I finally have a functioning machine. I shipped the old one back, but the new one was damaged in shipping so shipped it back and the next one was "lost" by the shipper. (guessing it's sitting in an employee's shop or stolen and sold) Laguna sent out another one that arrived undamaged and intact. Hats off to the customer service rep at Laguna who saw this through. As to the planer itself, I'm very happy with how it works. Boards come out smooth with minimal snipe. I paid more for my initial purchase than what they currently sell for. I think it's a very good machine especially for the current selling price. If you're considering which planer to buy, I'd definitely add this one to the mix. ... show more

    • No Printed Manual?!?!
I haven't actually fired up the machine yet but I have to say that Laguna has sunk to a new level of cheap by providing the 36 page manual in PDF form rather than hard copy. I've never before seen this in any piece of woodworking equipment at any price level.

This planer was perfect right out of the box. I found that finishing with just a light pass will fix any just about all the snipe. I have planed about 20 ft of red oak with zero problem. Leaves a great finish and holds a tolerance of about .003 inch.

    • Cutterhead Issue has been Fixed, Smooth as Glass
I like this little planer, and the revised cutterhead (2023) fixed any issues. Comparing cut quality to a Shelix head I had on my DeWalt 735, I would say the Quadtec head is equal if not better. I put mine on a Wen rolling stand with infeed and out feed rollers, and it works great. I added a Wixey DRO for precise adjustments every time. I would recommend it without reservations.
