  • They’re great!

Sound great! Feel great!

  • Terrific for Semi-Hollow Artcore
Size: 4 Strings
I've been playing bass for over 20 years and only ever played flats on a fretless Fender Jazz, and for a short period at that. I wanted flats for my Ibanez Artcore and reviews stated that La Bella was the company to go with. I've been playing these for about a month now and they're tremendous, especially on a semi-hollow body. I love that I can get a smooth tone without compromising depth, and they even allow for a bit of punch without resorting to slap technique. ... show more

  • Labella sounds without ridiculous labella stiffness
Size: 5 Strings
Always loved traditional labella sound and thump, but hated how those strings feel. Higher gauges felt like putting polished rebar on a bass, but even thin sets felt like I’m fighting the strings, not playing. Olinto flats are different. They sound just as you expect, maybe a little more alive and brighter before breaking in. However, they are super comfortable unlike typical “deep talking bridge cables”. Absolutely effortless playing, smooth surface and not grabby/sticky, can take super low action without weird fret clank of stiffer strings, because when you pluck much smaller portion of the string deforms due to pliability, without making unwanted fret contact couple miles away somewhere on the fretboard. A bit stiffer that TI flats, but may even rival those in comfort due to feel and playability. Purple silk is hard is awesome, fight me. ... show more

  • Great strings
Size: 4 Strings
I use three different types of strings from la bella strings. Deep talking 750N for my fender American P bass with rosewood neck. ASP-45103 IMA strings for my 60th anniversary jazz roadworn. Last but not least OSF-4 Olinto for my American jazz with rosewood neck. These strings last forever and sound great through the breaking in process. I used to buy cheaper strings and replace every 6 months or when needed but no need now. I bumped into a la Bella rep at a Phil jones bass competition in Brooklyn at the guitar shop NYC. Got a pack of strings from the rep, replaced my strings the next day and slowly but surely these strings made it to the rest of my basses. Now I play Phil jones bass amps and la Bella strings exclusively. ... show more

  • Tone of rounds and feel of flats, what more can you ask for?
Size: 4 Strings
Long time fan of flats, particularly LaBella Deep Talkin Flats. I’ve had them on P basses forever, just the classic sound of flats I’ve always been used to. Broke a string stretching it, and bought these just out curiosity - I do love the articulation you get with rounds, figured I might as well try them, another bassist told me these were “the most round sounding flats out there”. I’m like an hour in with these strings and feel compelled to write a review. If you are on the fence, just get them. I’m sure they’ll settle into sounding a bit flatter, but even fresh these are the flatwounds I’ve ever used. They truly DO sound like rounds - I may even have to turn the tone knob down on the P bass. With that said, the heavy bottom end you expect with flats is still there. Really a best-of-both-worlds kind of thing. Smooth as any flats under your fingers, stainless steel so you know they’ll last like flats do, and (at least when fresh) they have the tone and articulation of rounds. ... show more

  • Nice Sound But Fragile
Size: 4 Strings
These are probably the smoothest and most physically attractive flatwound strings that I have ever played. They have this dark luster to them I adore. La Bellas definitely have a thing to them in terms of a deep rumbling sound. Pretty dark sound. My biggest issue was that these strings were very fragile. They say to only wrap the silk around the post, and not to use them with a string through body bass. Never encountered bass strings with this kind of warning… I was very careful, and I put them on a top loading P bass as instructed. One of the strings still unraveled at the ball end. Nothing crazy done by me. I don’t think their normal deep talking bass strings are this finicky. Don’t understand why these strings were made so delicate? I don’t know if it’s just bad luck on my part, but bass strings are expensive and to have one break right out of the package is so off putting and frustrating. Makes me question La Bella QC and has put me off the brand. Maybe I’ll try them again in the future, but for now just frustrated at the lost money on these shoddy strings. ... show more
