Session circuitry enhances your acoustic pickup and imparts the rich sonic character that you’d expect from an experienced audio engineer using some of the world’s finest studio gear. We’ve captured this studio magic and put it into a compact, easy-to-use acoustic pedal that will transform your live sound. Often used by studio engineers in post-production, saturation adds warmth, dimension, and pleasing harmonics while smoothing the signal for an enhanced mix. The Session’s proprietary saturation is voiced specifically for the acoustic guitar and transports studio analog warmth and inspiring playability to the stage. Unlike standard compression that can squash the entire range of your signal, the Session’s Comp EQ features 3 narrowly focused bands of compression that tame common problematic frequencies and uncover the voice of your guitar. The low, mid, and high frequency compressors are essentially “touch-sensitive” EQs that respond in real-time to your dynamics. The harder you strum, the more they compress and vice versa.

Wish I had heard of this a long time ago
Had I known this existed I might have been able to save myself some money and a bunch of time. Stay with me here. I have two guitars... a Martin D-28 and a McPherson Sable (carbon fiber). Each has its strengths and weaknesses but my favorite is the McPherson, that came with a factory-installed undersaddle piezo pickup. I had installed an LR Baggs IBeam Active in the Martin and other than a tendency to occasionally get in a feedback loop, sounded pretty good. For those that aren't familiar with one, it's basically a microphone pickup affixed to the inside of the body of the guitar, at the saddle. It is warm and faithfully reproduces the sound of the instrument. The McPherson was another story. The piezo pickup was extremely responsive and overly bright. It did a good job of cutting through other instruments, but alone, it was somewhat strident. To deal with it, I replaced the factory installed LR Baggs Element pickup with an LR Baggs Anthem SL. The amplified sound changed dramatically for the better. But, I was looking for even more. So I went internet shopping for recommendations, and that led me to the Align Series Session pedal. It promised warmth and fullness, so, I bought one. That pedal was the single best thing that ever happened to either of my guitars, but what it did for the McPherson was amazing. In retrospect, I probably could have gotten by just fine with the factory installed pickup if I had bought this pedal first. What it does is add fullness and warmth to the sound. The Compression side squeezes the range down a bit, which tames the brilliance beast, and the Saturate side brings out fullness. It's pretty remarkable. It'll make any guitar sound more expensive. If you play in a group or a band (I play at my church) and are looking for a richer, fuller sound out of your acoustic guitar, get one. Actually, if you just play at home with an amp, it's still worth it. The pedal's not cheap but it does everything it says it will. No pedal that works well is inexpensive, but I can't imagine your experience being any different than mine. You'll wish you'd know about it sooner. And then you'll be checking out the Align Series Reverb pedal... and the Delay... Where does it end? I'm hoping to answer those questions shortly. I have a birthday coming up, so... maybe another review coming up? This is an easy 5-star product. It. Just. Works.

The missing link in the chain.
My pedal board was a mess with all kinds of pedals that didn't really suit my needs. Since I play acoustic 99% of the time, I made LR Baggs pedals the main feature of my board. They don't disappoint. This pedal adds the depth I was missing and it's not noticeable until you shut it off, which is how acoustic pedals should be. I use this with my Fishman Tonedeq and other LR Baggs pedals and the Strymon Cloudburst as well as a Body Rez. They work well together.

Not for everyone
The saturation & eq/compression effects are subtle - don't expect a huge sound difference. I think this is the intention. If you already have good EQ ability you may not find this pedal really useful. Natural inclination is to turn the effects up but, for me, that doesn't improve the effects - I'm setting both effects at 12:00 or less. I found the saturation more useful than the eq/compression knob, but I'm using it in line with a Radial PZ-pre which has good EQ adjustments. The pedal seems to add presence & an up-front dimension that improves the sound of my guitar equiped with a K&K passive SBT, but also adds depth when used with my guitar equipped with a Baggs Element UST. For me, It improves the sound of both Pick-ups making the amplified acoustic sound less harsh on the listener's ears.

This is a tone-brella
I really like that this pedal brings tone and extra depth to my acoustic. You can dial in a gritty tone that stretches the songs you’re playing or you can simply add a new layer of sound with your chorus pedal. It truly is built like a tank and easy to learn to use. If you are in a solo or duo give a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Intangible Necessity
This is the pedal acoustic guitar players don't always know they need but can't believe they played so long without it. It adds presence and life to any acoustic guitar. I usually use it with a 20 year old Taylor 414 with piezo pickups and Fishman package it came with (pre-Taylor Expression System) and people have asked if I have a mic in my guitar. It just pretties everything up, adds some girth to the sound, and is great to put right after your tuner to shape and compress the signal before a reverb, chorus, or delay. Great product.

Not suited for under saddle piezo pickups
I bought this hoping it would "unpiezo" the basic under saddle piezo pickup that comes in my Martin X series guitar. It did not. If anything it made it worse. Negatives 1. There is no setting where this pedal is "transparent". When engaged this pedal always adds a bright sheen to the sound. 2. The "comp eq" dial is effectively just a mid scoop and adds massive amounts of treble. I could detect no "compression" effect. Just more scooped mids and high treble as the dial is turned. (And yes I had the gain turned up to near overload) 3. The saturation control was very subtle, which is fine - but again it seemed to work mostly in the high end. 4. The effect on my basic under saddle piezo pickup was to *emphasize* rather than diminish all the already bad qualities of the pickup Positives 1. Great build quality, easy to use 2. Gain and Volume controls make it easy to level match all the settings 3. Sounded pretty good with my Taylor 314 that has an ES2 pickup (which is a bridge mounted piezo, not under saddle). But the results were not significantly different than an EQ pedal. LR Baggs has many acoustic pickup systems that are bridge mounted piezos and/or based entirely or partially on internal mics. These tend to be warmer and mellower than standard under saddle piezo pickups. Given this performed better with my Taylor's ES2 pickup, my guess is this is designed more for those kinds of pickups, and not for the standard under saddle piezo. I ended up returning this because it did not fit my needs at all.
