  • EXACTLY what I wanted (and needed) in a tuner
First, let me start out by saying that I probably could have bought the original TU-3 (non- Waza Craft version), and been sufficiently pleased. However, anything that promises premium quality and uncolored signal has my attention, whether I can tell a difference or not. And hey, it just looks cool! The top feature I needed in a tuner pedal, aside from accuracy, was speed. I've always used the clip-on style, namely the Snark SN-8, which promises to be fast and tight. It's a good tuner that has served me well without any complaints, but I felt like I should invest in something of a more professional grade. I narrowed it down to this TU-3w, along with the TC Electronic PolyTune 3, the Korg Pitchblack Custom, and the ultra-affordable Snark SN-10S. It was tough to choose, as these are all well-regarded tuners. The PolyTune's ability to tune all strings at once was interesting, but a lot of people said they ended up checking each one individually anyway. Plus, since my primary use will be with a bass guitar, I doubt that I'd actually use the polyphonic method. A lot of folks said the display was sometimes more difficult to see in polyphonic mode (since it has to display all strings at the same time). The Korg Pitchblack was a contender simply because it's one of the tried-and-true tuners, and the Custom version just looks cool, but nothing really stood out otherwise. I really like the display on the Snark SN-10S (and so did a ton of other reviewers), and even though most reviewers said it was fast, accurate, and built like a tank, there was just something weird about it being priced at a fraction of the others (and I don't know why that would be a problem!). Since I couldn't make up my mind, I defaulted to this one since the TU-3 seems to be "the" industry standard tuner -- everyone either has one or has used one. I'm really glad I did, and I won't think twice about the others. Of the clip-on tuners and tuner apps I've used, nearly all of them seem to have some level of lag. Worse, many of them give a slightly different reading for the same note that you've just tuned. Speed means nothing when you can't get a consistent measurement. This TU-3w picks up and locks onto a note faster than I can look at it; tracks the tuning smoothly and steadily in absolute real time; never second-guesses itself; and it's so easy to read. If there's a better way to tune, I can't imagine how. Even if I spent more than I really needed to for the Waza Craft edition, I'm extremely pleased with every penny that I invested, making it one of my most prized tools in my gig bag. ... show more

  • Probably the best pedal tuner available.
The Boss TU-3W is my favorite pedal tuner, period. The tuner has a flexible input and output interface, much like the TU-3, allowing you to either pass signal while you are tuning or mute while tuning. Compared to the TU-3, the TU-3W has improved visibility and seemingly more accuracy. On dark stages, the blue lights are easy to see and light up well. The pedal tracks perfectly and rarely (if ever) cannot register pitches, even extremely low bass notes. The pedal is finished in a gorgeous, stealthy black. The switch works fantastically with the famous Boss smooth-touch. While the price isn't cheap in comparison to other tuner pedals, the quality and functionality makes up for the price difference. The only thing I would change would be to add a mute function that doesn't turn off the tuner. ... show more

  • Favorite tuner I’ve used
First off boss makes great pedals that last. The waza craft is their top of the line for sure. Now that I use lower tunings cheaper tuners do not work. This easily picks up low g on my 7 string and could easily pick up lower. Very accurate and intuitive. Also the blue is easier to see than the red on the standard version. I notice no tone issues when I test it in the chain and take it out. ... show more

  • Everyone needs a tuner
A tuner is a must have pedal, the first thing in your chain. I bought this to replace a 10 year old regular TU-3. It was shorting out my chain so time for a new one. The Waza Craft are claimed to be better build quality and after owning 3 different Waza pedals I would agree than they seem to be. I like that this one is black. I have seen complaints that the LEDs on this one are harder to see than on the regular model but I haven't noticed it being a problem. They say the Waza has a better buffer but by the time the signal gets through all of my pedals I don't know that I would be able to notice. I would definitely buy this again, but I hope I don't have to. ... show more

  • best in my opinion but not perfect
good tuner but 2 demerits. 1st, forget about using the 9v battery. I've burned through 2 already, over 2 nights, using it for maybe 20 min. only to find out that its energized and a hog at that the entire time you're jack is plugged in to the input. Wouldn't trust that onstage. 2nd, the lock in tuning mode aint so accurate. It tuned properly only when I used the strobe like mode and waited after plucking the string. The lock in mode seemed to be way off in my book, as well as accepting the value right when open string is plucked or picked, that goes for the harmonic as well (electric guitar). I suppose that's not the tuners fault, but the lock in value which might be convenient is not accurate, but that also is probably true with all tuners and more dependent on how incremental your hands can turn the tuner and the tuners gear ratio. I still prefer it hands down over the competitors. Its not too busy, it has good lighting, ez to read, and in the strobe like mode it locks in better than the competitors. One of em being the Peterson which is the gold standard for accuracy, imho, but I find it way too sensitive and time consuming, that is by the time you're close to locking in, the signal has alread decayed ... show more
