Make espresso the traditional way: tamp the proper amount of coffee into a filter basket inside a filter holder, twist the filter holder onto the machine, pour cold water into the machine's boiler, and flick the "espresso" switch. Brew up to 8 ounces of espresso into a glass carafe or directly into one or two espresso cups, (a two-cup adapter is included). Making regular coffee is just as easy: insert a paper filter into the swing-out filter basket, spoon in the desired amount of coffee, pour cold water into the coffeemaker's water chamber (separate from the espresso boiler), and flick the "coffee" switch. Brew up to eight 5- ounce cups of coffee in the 40-ounce, glass coffee carafe, which sits on a warming plate next to the espresso carafe. Removing the carafe from the warming plate pauses the brewing process for a midbrew pour.
