Product description Love all manner of coffee drinks? Then consider this combination machine that allows you to brew coffee in the morning, cappuccino in the afternoon, and espresso after dinner (or the other way around depending on your sleep schedule). In this steam espresso maker, water is heated in a sealed boiling chamber and then released through the brew head for espresso or the steam arm for frothing milk. Once the steam has been exhausted, the machine must be allowed to cool prior to opening the sealed boiling chamber and refilling with water. For this reason steam powered machines are best for those who don't want to brew larger amounts of espresso at one time. By combining a regular coffeemaker and espresso machine, this appliance makes it possible to satisfy every coffee craving with a single, compact unit. The espresso machine includes a steam nozzle with a frothing attachment for making coffee drinks like cappuccino and café latté. Make espresso the traditional way: tamp the proper amount of coffee into a filter basket inside a filter holder, twist the filter holder onto the machine, pour cold water into the machine's boiler, and flick the "espresso" switch. Brew up to 8 ounces of espresso into a glass carafe or directly into one or two espresso cups, (a two-cup adapter is included). Making regular coffee is just as easy: insert a paper filter into the swing-out filter basket, spoon in the desired amount of coffee, pour cold water into the coffeemaker's water chamber (separate from the espresso boiler), and flick the "coffee" switch. Brew up to eight 5- ounce cups of coffee in the 40-ounce, glass coffee carafe, which sits on a warming plate next to the espresso carafe. Removing the carafe from the warming plate pauses the brewing process for a midbrew pour. The appliance has a plastic exterior, measures 14 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 10 inches deep, and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

I have had the same Maschine and used informally 22 Years, it is awesome, but my old one the filterbasket broke so I looked for a replacement, but could not find one. So when I found this on I bought it. It had a musty smell, when it arrived, but washed it out and ran some vinegar and water through, and it works great. The smell is gone, and I am looking forward to another 22 years of use krupps needs to make this Maschine again ... show more

The coffee pot was shattered, glass everywhere. Got the vacuum out, for this is a shoeless house with Service dog and cat, and guests! The back part of the protective bubble wrap was filled with coffee stains. The cappuccino top and interior was grungy with grit from sediment. The top of the cappuccino area has old built up coffee grinds. Although I had the vacuum out and vacuumed everything, before removing the breakage (GLASS) in order to see if the cappuccino worker and if my glass pot would fit. I vacuumed everywhere, I have a shard of glass in my foot!! We are a shoeless house, with a Service dog and cat and guests!!! Now, not only do I have to take the time to go to UPS, get a print of some address I do not know where to return this package back, After taking such care to move the breakage, the entire unit and replace all in the box. I have to go to the doctors to remove the shard of glass from the bottom of my foot!! This was sheers ignorance to not wrap glass for shipment! I cleaned the new one up and placed my old one next to the new one. The Older Krups is larger and in the same condition as this newer one I order. and the older one is 13 years old!!!Krups 985-42 Il Caffe Duomo Coffee and Espresso Machine, Black I have had "Krups coffee and cappuccino" makers since the 90's, they lasted over 10 years each and the one which does now make coffee, however the cappuccino maker failed after 13 years, it was time to search for another one. This coffee maker is an excellent choice if you want to make both espresso and regular coffee and are willing to sacrifice a bit. The espresso will lack the crema you get with a large much more expensive machine, but does provide a good alternative. For the money you can't beat it.

I really am happy with my Krups coffee maker. Either I make expressos or capucchinos (actually I prefer lattes), my Krups has worked perfectly in the two months I've had it. Certainly was tricky to use the froth for foam, but if you read carefully the instructions you will get the hang of it (and of course, with some practice). I recognize I'm not a heavy coffee drinker and I don't expect either that the machine will work like I was in some fancy coffee shop. This is an easy-to-use home appliance to make a slightly better cup of coffee than the average coffee maker machines. If some people are too demanding and specific with their coffee needs and expectations, I suggest strongly not buying this appliance or any other for that matter, because they will always have complains that will be impossible to accomplish. ... show more

This works like a dream. This was a present for my husband. He mastered the espresso maker and was frothing milk like a pro in no time. We didn't have any of the problems described by some of the others in their reviews. Maybe Krups has made some basic improvements, who knows. I previously had a Krups coffee-only maker that put steam through the grounds and I got spoiled with that coffee being really hot. This coffee maker does not make the coffee quite so hot,(and many people will probably like that) but the convenience of having the espresso machine combined in a small countertop space makes up for the difference! Many espresso machines alone cost more than this duo. It is easy to use and clean. There is a little rubber extension on the milk steamer which seems (to me) unnecessary and harder to clean, but I just don't use it. I am very happy with the purchase! ... show more

I thoroughly believe in the brand name of Krups. My new coffee maker works well and is dependable. I was replacing a Krups coffee maker which I had for many years. I was not able to find the same model # as I had previously, but this was the closest I could find at the time. It is sufficient, but not the same quality of the model I had before.
