  • Outstanding, Almost Perfect Outstanding, Almost Perfect
These are shockingly good for $30. Paired with my Fiio M21 and it's Retro Cassette Case they just look phenomenal. Sound quality is incredible for the price. You would not think something so basic could sound this good. It doesn't quite hold up to my dedicated headphones and IEMs but those cost hundreds and these a mere $30. Way outperforms for the price. The detail is pretty solid but the soundstage is where these really shine. Unbelievable how wide it is on something so unassuming. One final note they get really loud when driven by my M21 and remain crystal clear even at high volume! Build quality is a mixed bag. I previously bought a pair of Portra Pros and actually sent them back because I thought they felt so cheap so was really hesitant here. fortunately it looks like Koss has made some improvements as these feel pretty well made for the price. The steel headband in particular is very thick. I still wish they sold a "pro" model that was an all metal build and included cables that detached at each ear. As these still have cables that directly wire into each ear cup, and it just feels like such an easy fail point. Koss if you are listening please use a 2 pin or similar connection so the cable can be completely removed! I am still so afraid I will one day tear the cable out by accident as it just loosely hangs out each cup. Overall tho for the price these feel perfectly adaquete I just would happily pay more for a more robust model as I want something I can throw around without concern. Comfort is expectedly great due to how light they are. No hair pulling from the metal band either which is a nice surprise. Overall these are so close to perfection and miles better than the Portra Pros. These have that retro charm in a solid chassis and sound amazing, all at a crazy low price. Here's to hoping one day Koss makes an all metal version with detachable cables as then these would truly be perfect. ... show more

  • These Headphones Will Change Your Life These Headphones Will Change Your Life
Koss headphones have changed my entire perception of sound. I bought the Porta Pros a little while ago and was blown away by listening to songs that I’ve been hearing for years, and noticing new notes and depth in them. These KPH40s are even cheaper than the porta pros, and in many ways they feel higher quality. The metal band over the top is fairly solid and the oversized orange ear pads are great. The headphones themselves are super simple; basically just the drivers, pads, and metal bar. The cord is possible the only downside to build quality, as it feels like it could be easily snagged and damaged. But for $30?? You can’t go wrong. The sound quality on these is amazing. Coming from Sennheiser (and Bose before that) it becomes clear to you that this is how headphones should sound. They are balanced with nice bass and can play the full frequency range. I’m using them with my PC but they’d be plenty comfortable enough to wear pretty much anywhere. Cannot recommend these strongly enough! ... show more

  • A budget set which punches well above its weight.
I picked up the Koss KPH40 because I wanted something lightweight, simple, and easy to use without feeling like I had a bulky pair of headphones on my head. After using them, I can see why people like them so much. They are extremely comfortable, almost to the point where you forget you are wearing them. The headband is minimal, the pads sit lightly on the ears, and they do not clamp hard at all. Sound-wise, they are honestly better than I expected for the price. They have that classic Koss sound: warm, open, and easy to listen to. Vocals come through clearly, guitars and acoustic tracks sound natural, and they have enough bass to feel full without getting muddy or overwhelming. They are not going to give you deep sub-bass or a super detailed “audiophile” presentation, but that is not really what these are trying to be. They are just fun, relaxed, and very listenable. I would recommend a combo with the Yaxi pads in order to really maximize your experience. ... show more

  • Mod them immediately! Mod them immediately!
As you can tell I’m a fan. The kph40s and koss in general are definitely my all around favorite headphone. Modding them is a no brainer because if I mess up BAM new pair. This new pair for some reason feels more solid and the drivers have a more firm pivot to them. I really think Koss adjusted the tuning a smidge as they seem slightly more clear and punchy. Might mod them with a new cable to make them more versatile but as you can see that area is covered. What can I say! They’re awesome. Update: so I did ad the mmcx mod to a pair and they handle bass much better than the other kph40s.. besides clarity one of the beige pair which I don’t understand.. Just go balanced cable mod and a ifi go blue or quidelix with some appropriate yaxi pads and they’ll sound better than most any headphones out there without a doubt. This outperforms everything else i own. ... show more

  • Great for light weight headset
For 30 dollars these are amazing. Great bass, clear vocals. Lightweight. I'm simply amazed at the quality. I have Sony MX4 (350$) and Audiotechnica mx50(250$) and these compete with those in terms of audio quality. But very light and comfortable and on top of that only a fraction of the price. Great pair to have for going on walks or something where you want a light weight headset. ... show more

  • Amazing sound for the price.. nothing is even close!
Wow... these are amazing! I have a few pairs of the more exotic higher end headphones.. No, these are not the same, but for $30, these are crazy good! and they weigh nothing, so you can leave them on for long sessions, they sound great, and you don't get head fatigue like I do with some of my bulky, heavy headphones. Give these a try!! ... show more
