Somehow I had expected a soft close seat, it's not. This model K-4774-0 is a moderately thick plastic seat and lid, I suppose sturdy enough for average users. I wouldn't stand on the seat lid though it feels solid enough when using the toilet for a bathroom chair with the lid closed. There are a couple of plastic bumper pads that fit into the seat lid, but nothing for the toilet seat itself. So it is quite loud when dropped shut. I would say the comfort is only ok, not great for my lightly padded derriere. I'm replacing a padded seat but maybe I'll get used to the hard plastic. The overall shape is a very close match to my American Standard elongated toilet and looks like an OEM fit. The quick release attachment is ok but I can see why people are having difficulty stripping the plastic nut that is holding the seat to the toilet. The plastic nut is designed with a tapered end that must be drawn into a recess in the porcelain when the screw is tightened, otherwise it will flare out and the screw will not tighten fully. If the hole for the attachment hardware in the toilet is ample, and mostly are rather oversized for the mounting hardware, the tapered plastic nut will probably compress and hold the stainless steel screw. But with my toilet, the hole for the hardware is rather small and the nut started to strip until I backed off the screw and applied upward force to the nut to engage the tapered end into the porcelain. I think the general idea of the tapered nut is good although a somewhat finer taper may improve results for some installations. ... show more

Was a bit skeptical that these would be sturdy enough to actually sit on, but they most certainly are. Decided to go ahead and replace all the toilet seats in the house with these since I lost track of the last time I did it. Easy to install, easy to wipe down and clean, sturdy and they don't get near as cold in the winter time. Win win! ... show more

My loo has been very happy with this product. The seat has a tendency to go slightly lopsided after a few weeks, requiring the repositioning and possibly retightening of one of the mounts, but otherwise it works well, preventing the average person from taking an ice-cold sitz bath, and insuring that unpleasant substances don't ooze down the exterior of the bowl (and it's easy enough to clean). My wife and daughter avoid anything that deals with the toilet. So much so, they don't even like to touch the lid while closing it. So, they let it slam close. This makes me cringe every single time. How long can this go on before something breaks. I bought this seat because the old one was well... old. Much to my surprise it softly closes with no SLAM!!! HA I beat them at their own game. The main thing I dislike is the fact that it does not close quietly. I should have paid more attention when ordering it. It takes a bit getting used to, as it makes a lot of noise when you close it if you don't hold unto it.

Tired of rusty screws and difficulty cleaning your toilet seat? Then I recommend this seat. It was easy to install even for this sick old lady, and easy to clean. It is lighter weight which also makes it easier for me to handle, but never the less seems sturdy.

Fits perfect, but like others, believed I was purchasing a soft closed unit. Not sure if they clarified listing after purchase, but wish I'd gotten soft closed version. Also, four star due to comfort which is fine, but not optimal.
