  • Great low cost knife set, but requires a little elbow grease
Update 2/9/2020: Well I have a few years under my belt using these knives and I love them. I did end up getting a rotary knife sharpener and used it on all the non-serrated blades once. Yes, these will hold an edge and after using the sharpener they are all almost too sharp. I did end up replacing the supplied scissors with a nicer set. But other than that I think you'll be very happy with what you get. I ALWAYS hand wash these knives and have not had any issues with rust or degradation of the handles. They still look like they did the day I bought them back in 2016. Highly recommended. Original review on 8/27/2016: Received my set and have to say I'm pretty impressed. My expectations are never very high when I'm ordering something that's at the low end of the cost scale and this set just may change my attitude. The set arrived on time and came well packaged. Inside the main box all knives (and scissors) were packaged together in a box. Each knife also had a cardboard sleeve protecting it's blade. A foam block was used as filler to prevent the knives and knife block from shifting inside the packaging. Everything in the box appeared new and was in perfect condition. All parts were present and accounted for. The knife block is medium weight and for the most part a standard item. It's attractive and will blend in with my kitchen well. It has good feet and will not slide around. Works for me. The knives are attractive but to get full use out of them you'll have to use a little elbow grease. Out of the box my set had a working edge put on the blades and they weren't very sharp. So I took about 5 minutes and honed all the standard blades (not serrated) with the supplied sharpening steel. The net result was a set that is razor sharp and can easily slice through an over ripe tomato. Since I hand washed everything the honing process really didn't seem like it took much time and wasn't overly inconvenient. All knives have a full tang (the blade extends all the way to the end of the handle) so I expect them to last even with daily use. The weak link in the chain is the scissors. They are light duty and I don't expect them to last very long. The metal blades are affixed to plastic levers via plastic weld joints. You might be able to see this in the picture somewhat. If all you do is cut string or paper you may be OK. If you like to use scissors to cut up chickens you may be looking for a new pair sooner rather than later. ... show more

  • Decent cheaper set
The knife block is rather small and the knives are clustered together too closely, but the knives are nice.

  • Steak knives are bad
The cutting edge of the steak knives is terrible. They shredded everything I tried to cut. I only used the steak knives, so I can't comment on the other knives. However they all had smooth cutting edges, so should work fine. I will be returning this set.

  • Handy, useful set of knives
This knife set was purchased for a gift, and I have not personally used it. However, from its appearance and heft, I believe these knives will be just fine for the people to whom I'm giving them and their level of cooking (very good, but not super gourmet). They have crummy knives now, no where to store them well, and with the block, these knives are going to be a BIG improvement. I will remind them to wash and dry them carefully, in order to avoid water spots/draining and possible rusting. The steel appears to be stainless, but not a really heavy gauge nor polished to avoid water spotting. That said, the entire set contains plenty of variation in size and weight, are sharp and can be easily sharpened, and the scissors and sharpener will be handy. This set seems to be good value; I can tell you more in a few months! ... show more

I have been searching for a knife block with quality knives including j.a henckels knives set victorinox chef knife ginsu knife block chicago cutlery essentials dishwasher safe knife set and this set is exactly what I needed. You get an assortment of knife sizes plus kitchen scissors. The block is nice and hefty so I know it will stand sturdy without tipping. The knives are sharp and I had no problem cutting through different types of meats, and vegetables. They are lightweight but durable. I have not had any issues with them being loose or bending. The scissors also are very sharp I have used them to cut pieces of meat, and herbs. I bought this block knife set during a promotion to try it out and I am glad I did. I have gotten rid of my old dull knives and replaced it with this awesome block. I also love how nice it looks sitting on my counter top. ... show more

  • Good set of knives
This is a good set of knives, but probably a little expensive for the set. There is a sharpening steel included with the set, but I'm not sure how I'll sharpen the steak knives, as they are serrated...hopefully I won't need to worry about that for a long time. Same with the bread knife. The knives were very sharp out of the package and cut very well. The scissors are a bit weak, but do okay. We put this set into our camper to replace a very poor set from Wal-Mart, which didn't cut well at all. Overall we are happy with this set. ... show more

I was looking to buy a couple of steak knives by themselves, and I was noticing that steak knives were going to cost me between 9 to 20 bucks depending on what I was going to purchase. I saw these knives which came with the steak knives and the additional cutting knives and decided it was a better bang for my buck. I have some cheap Ikea knives right now and I can't wait to get rid of them. These knives cut through chicken easily and are great to cup up food. I am a beginner chef and I love them. ... show more
