I did not need the knife block because I use a wall mounted knife magnet in my kitchen, however, the block is heavy and appears that it would hold up for years. I am keeping it in case it is needed in the future. As for the actual knives - I thought they would be heavier by the look of them. This is not a minus to the set. My husband has arthritis and when I purchased the knives I was concerned about the weight. They are one continuous piece of metal, I love that because I hate the handle breakage. The sizes were larger than I thought they would be due to the price. I found that even with wet hands and the sleek design I did not drop any while using nor while cleaning. There is no grip issue even with my husband with his hands. Oh, what a dream when slicing through sweet potatoes, carrots, and even tomatoes - just like slicing through butter. I could not believe how slick cutting was with these. Especially since I have been using a knife set for 19 years that I bought at a discount store with plastic handles that were falling apart.

Not high quality stainless steel, not rust resistant, not dishwasher safe. Knives arrived, went right into the dishwasher, almost all of them have rust on them from one wash and no use.
