I was interested in this set because it seemed to contain a knife for most all occasions. We cook a lot and wanted something that can sit out and look nice while being functional storage. I have had kitchen knives in every price range and these are of a solid quality steel, but not extremely high end. That being said, the initial impressions from the go,I say use is very good. Knives came sharp and ready for use. The larger carving knives have held sharp through pretty heavy use so far. The balance is good on the larger knives and the handles are ergonomic and feel good in my hand. My hands are larger, just fyi. The block is large, which I expected but it is very long front to back, so be aware that the counter space it takes up is a lot. The sharpener on the block is not great for anything but just an emergency edge that will not likely last very long. My opinion is, I wouldn’t use it for long term care or your knives. Get a decent sharpener that will maintain your edge geometry. Also, I wish it had a honing steel, but for the knife this is a really good and versatile set.
