I have been baking bread for decades, and I have bought and tried just about every lame product on the market, from the short beautiful word engraved lame holder to the long handled dough scoring knife. At one point, I used coffee stirrers for my double edged blade (I do not recommend this technique), and I even made my own for a little over four dollars using nuts and bolts and parts (it holds the blade nicely, but I didn't realize I would have to unscrew it each time to replace the blade!) The lame itself has a nice weight and ergonomic feel.. I was able to score my sourdough boule effortlessly, and then TA TA I could retract the blade out of harms way. just as important, the comprehensive, detailed instruction booklet is (1) READABLE:. Too many manufactures include an instruction booklet with artsy unreadable light small font. And (2) INFORMATIVE: did you know that a razor blade has two sides, a smooth side and of coarse side?! The delivery was delayed (well worth the wait!) , and I'm hoping it was because the manufacturer was inundated with buyers for their brilliantly constructed magnetic bread lame. Definitely would recommend this for yourself or a gift for anyone you know who loves to bake bread. ... show more

I really like this simple little lame. It's comfortable to hold in your hand, and easy to make slashes in your dough exactly where you want them. The biggest plus is that it 'hides' the blade when not in use, no need for a separate cover or box. You just retract it fully into the body so you don't accidentally cut yourself when retrieving it from your drawer. Two minor quibbles that are not deal breakers, but would make this perfect: 1) a small ridge or grip on the two halves of the body would make separating them easier to change blades. The magnet holds them together tightly, but you have to either get your nail between the halves, or push your finger through the hold to separate them. 2) sliding the blade in and out requires that you use your nail to push or pull the blade. I wish there was some kind of way, like a button, to help slide the blade in or out. Other than that, I highly recommend this for any bakers looking for a great tool. ... show more

I bake all breads for my household,and I needed an easier to control lame for slashing my baguettes. I just got it, and used it once so far, it has a learning curve, but an easy one. Small, and it's compact box has a place for the extra blades, easily stores in my baker's island drawer, right there when I need it! I see me using this lame until it wears out, if ever!
