  • Almost a home run… ALMOST
Style: Sport Green
If not for Klipsch’s excellent customer service, these would get 3 stars. Like many other reviews, I was REALLY excited about getting these. And besides a couple glaring issues, I honestly am still excited about having them. I’ll start with the good: PROS - Excellent build quality. Case is fun to pop the latch open and shut. The buds are made from quality materials and feel solid. The case is a beast. I’ve dropped it several times and aside from scratches there are no issues. - innovative. Including a rechargeable desiccant pack is ingenious and inventive. Necessary? Maybe not really… but still I appreciate it greatly - low profile in ear. Many other higher tier ear buds I had been shopping for were massive and had just ridiculous profiles in the ear. - sound quality. I grew up an audio nerd and worked in home theater at Best Buy. The Klipsch merch was always considered at or around top tier equipment for the average consumer. My sound bar for my TV is Klipsch. These don’t outshine my Sony over ear MX 1000 m3s (obviously), but for their tiny size I’m extremely satisfied with the sound quality. - water / dust proof. I work in the fire service and wanted some buds I can wear while working around the station and while exercising. Getting wet or dirty is pretty standard with the job so this was a selling point for me. - customer service. I bought the less expensive version of these worried about not getting the memory foam ear tips, but willing to try the 6 different tips that were included. None worked. I emailed Klipsch offering to purchase a set of the foam tips and they simply sent me some free of charge. If not for that, these would be getting 3 stars. Well done supporting your product (in that regard). - tactile buttons! Touch controls are horrible. Especially trying to make touch controls work on tiny ear buds. THANK YOU KLIPSCH for getting this right. Tactile switches forever! - pairing. Fast, efficient, responsive. Well done. CONS - the case. As awesome as this case is, there are some issues here. Some of the bud tips seem to make the buds too large to actually fit into the case fully. This means the buds don’t actually charge, and your phone never disconnects from them! The leads to make the connection to begin charging are just way too small and the tolerances way too tight. The memory foam tips that saved this product from being returned are also too large to allow the buds to fit into the case fully. I have to pop the tips off, place the buds in the case, then snap the tips back on when I want to use them. Ridiculous. - the included tips. Klipsch is using their “oval tips” as this huge selling point. They even seem to have patented it. Trouble is, the tips can snap on at ANY ORIENTATION. Consider that for a minute. This means these will either be the most comfortable buds you’ve ever owned, or the oval will be misaligned and they will be unbelievably uncomfortable. My experience was the latter. After only an hour or so of wear, I was developing so many hot spots around my ear holes that I couldn’t take anymore. You’re supposed to rotate them slightly to make sure they fit properly, but all that did for me was ensure maximum pressure being applied to my ear holes. Klipsch threw me a lifeline with the foam tips, which reduced or removed the ear hole pressure and discomfort. They really should be included with both tiers of this product. - software. This app is trash. It is pleasant to look at, but there’s just no substance at all. The EQ settings are laughably bad. “Flat” is truly the best sounding of them all. Also, with a product that has so many different button commands, steps for resetting, returning to factory settings, troubleshooting, don’t you think being able to access the manual in the app would be helpful??? It would literally be the only useful feature on this thing. - “noise cancellation.” Why is “passive noise cancellation” even a term? They don’t cancel noise at all. You have things in your ears, but when there’s outside noise and an audiobook playing at the same time it’s just a ridiculous cacophony of audio assaults. Don’t buy them for this feature. NEUTRAL - charging. I don’t use wireless charging at all so I can’t comment on that feature. Having to leave the case open to charge is not an issue to me given the benefit of the case being waterproof as the reason for this. - case sounds like a tiny maraca. Desiccant pack makes some noise. Leave them at home if trying to sneak up on someone. - case is huge. Again, not a bother to me but you probably wouldn’t want these in a front pocket. Overall, these really are great to use for 2 maybe 3 hours at a time. Anything longer and I’m reaching for my Sony’s. They have some goofy quirks but no deal breakers for me (they deliver on sound quality which should be at the top of most peoples lists). In spite of the issues I would still recommend these for someone who would use them in unforgiving conditions. They’re rugged and sound excellent. ... show more

  • Definitely not Sports
I have been a long time fan of Klipsch audio products, and have owned many Klipsch items over the years. So when it came time for me to shop for new earbuds for working out, naturally I gravitated towards Klipsch. I was using Bose sport earbuds for quite some time and then had a pair of budget earbuds in between. My criteria was and still is, great sound quality, a lot of volume, fair battery life, and wing tips to better secure the buds in my ears. The Klipsch T5 ii checked all of those boxes, and knowing that Klipsch takes sound quality seriously, I was excited to get my hands on them. Fast forward to my very first workout wearing the T5 ii's. I was on an elliptical machine, 40 minutes into a 1 hour workout. I felt the right earbud loosening a bit from my ear, a common problem for many earbuds, hence the reason I require wing tips. I reached up to press the bud snuggly back into my ear canal, and before I could do so, the entire earbud popped out, falling to the floor below me. However, the silicone winged tip was still in my ear. So at least the wing tip works as it should. This was on an elliptical machine, so not exactly the most strenuous and active workout. I couldn't imagine running or anything else that involves bouncing up and down or more drastic body movements. I had read the many reviews that said the wing tips slide off of the ear buds, but because of my expectations for a company of Klipsch's caliber, I dismissed those negative reviews. Do not dismiss these reviews. I tried various sized ear tip and wing tips in countless variations, still nothing seemed to keep the T5ii earbuds securely in my ears while working out. If you sweat and you move (I believe that is a requirement for a workout), do not expect these earbuds to stay securely in your ear. The sound and the volume are good, even better than similar priced competitors, but to call these "sport" earbuds is simply not true. I did not even bother testing the call quality, since I generally do not take calls when working out, and after a week I determined that I simply cannot use these if I am being active in any way. I am incredibly disappointed in the final design and results. If only Klipsch would produce the wing tip that has an edge or notch on each side to keep it on the actual ear bud. However due to the tapered shape of the ear bud and design of the wing tip, nothing will keep these two items together as they should be, when sweating. Update: I contacted Klipsch and explained the design flaw. They notified me that they do have a newly styled silicone winged tip that has an edge to hold the earbud in place. After verifying my proof of purchase they sent the new set to me. I am pleased, not overly pleased, but pleased nonetheless. I still think the design of the winged tip has room for improvement, but they are not falling off the silicone tip anymore, so this is a major plus. I find myself having to push the earbuds back into my ear quite a bit during a workout, but I suppose this is the case with most earbuds. The sound clarity and volume are good, and would be even better if the earbuds fit and stayed snug in the ear. So I am pleased with this purchase, but I am not sure I would recommend. I have already decided that the next pair of earbuds I purchase for working out will be a different brand, solely based on the fit. Update after 6 months: Unfortunately I am forced drop another rating star from 3 to 2. After using these 4-5 times a week for only 1 hour at a time, the glue that holds the ear tip tube to the actual ear bud has failed and no longer holds the device together. A day ago, after working out, I went to remove the earbuds from my ear, and the ear tip only on the right side stayed in my ear. Upon inspection I found that the pieces are glued together and this glue has become soft and only slightly sticky. The left earbud suffered from the same glue fail, but the piece had not yet completely separated. This would not be an issue if the pieces involved snapped together, but in this case, glue is the binder used. I assume that over 6 months, sweat, moisture and heat caused the glue to fail, but I am not an adhesive scientist, so I cannot say for certain. I can say, that for $200 I completely expect a pair of earbuds to last much longer than 6 months without falling apart. I have contacted Klipsch support and will update if and when they repair or replace the earbuds. If they do not, then I will simply apply some super glue myself. However, for a $200 price point, the consumer should not need to super glue anything. Between the wing tips not being secure and the glue failing after only 6 months of light use, it seems like this product was either rushed through production, not properly tested, or both. As much as I love Klipsch sound quality and the company, I cannot recommend purchasing the Klipsch T5 II True Wireless Sport Earphones. I am happy to say that after sending a couple of pictures to Klipsch support, they happily replaced the earbuds, promptly and easily. I will say that when I received the new replacement earbuds, the wing tips included are the same faulty ones that do not stay attached to the earbud. I was a little disappointed by this, as I would've thought, by now, that Klipsch would replace the wing tips with the improved design. I have my old wing tips, so it is not of concern to me, but anyone purchasing these will have the same issues and still have to contact support to get the correct wing tips. As I explained, after having these for 6 months and having to contact support twice, I simply cannot recommend spending $150-$200 on these earbuds. The support team is super helpful, friendly, and prompt, so no fault to them. Also the music quality is very good for such a compact pair of earbuds. Sill, when spending over $150 for earbuds, in my opinion, they should just work, no support should be needed. ... show more
